Lovely, private house on the river

  • 4 of 5

We spent a lot of time in the water and on the screened porch. Great get-away

The house was great the weather was horrible. I was so hoping to enjoy the river/creek right in the backyard. It looked so inviting. Unfortunately it rained our entire stay but that wasn't Steve's fault. Had only one issue and that was addressed in a very timely manner.

Loved the screened in porch!!!

We enjoyed our time in the county, we enjoyed Celo and the close proximate to Asheville, but that is about the best I can say. The home was in a pretty filthy state when we arrived. The floor needs to be replaced and so does the carpet. The first three days and two nights the heat was not working. The property manager did come and fix it by our third night, which helped. But the overall cleanliness was lacking, right down to the sheets on the beds. We have stayed at several VRBO properties in the past, but this one was possibly the poorest of them all. So for the most part, we were not satisfied with this place, and I feel that the cleaning deposit was wasted since it was left cleaner than when we arrived, including the dishes and cook-ware. Everything that we used had to be thoroughly washed. One other thing about this, the dish-washer needs a cover on the detergent tray which may help in the cleaning of the dishes.

We also feel that because of the heating problem and hence, a lack of good sleep, more than just the damage deposit should be returned to us.

Owner's Response: I guess upon first contact none of these issues could have been discussed?? When you made first contact after there three days you had explained to us that everything was fine and that the heat had stopped working during the night?? We had a repairman out the very next morning who had it fixed in 20 minutes! I called you back to report issue fixed talked about the huge friendly dog you had left at the house while gone for the day. No other comments or questions were reported as we were on the phone twice during your stay! I'm sorry for your now unhappy stay and will be in touch to try to understand your comments. We never want someone to have a bad experience as all our comments have been grade A till now.

Location, location, location!!!

We used the place as our base camp for Mt. Mitchell climb, it was 3 miles to black mountain campground , and the start of the most popular trail up the mountain. We were able to get there in good time avoiding the morning crowds. The home/cabin had all the amenities we needed for our 4 day stay, quiet, peaceful, can't wait to do this again. Special mention for the high speed internet, i am currently in school for my doctorate degree and the ability to do my on-line assignments during breaks, PRICELESS!!!!
