Guestbook comments from the manager

The weekend couldn't have been more perfect! This was the 10th year that my sister and I have gone away on a special weekend in the mountains together, and we agreed that Tsunaga cabin is where we want to continue going. Actually, this is the gift we give to each other for Christmas and birthday gifts. With both of us being breast cancer survivors, being together in a special, relaxing place is far more important than things. Please let the owners know how much we enjoyed their wonderful cabin and that we WILL be back!!

Thank YOU for helping us when we had to postpone the weekend twice due to snow. The weather was terrific this time. Enjoy your summer. Neel

great cabin in the middle of nowhere!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was great. Stocked with most anything you'll need other than food. a few things would make it 5 star:

hot water lasts barely one shower

we arrived and the cabin was 50 degrees inside, id suggest a bit warmer for your guests arrival

cleanliness, although it wasn't bad the unit was not what I would call cleaned to my expectation

Outside lighting is about non existent

For week away from everything I would highly suggest this rental. the creek is literally feet outside your back porch. There are puzzles, games and plenty of kitchen utensils. A few minute walk down the road you have trout fishing access and a beautiful bridge. Driving from the south your going to have about a 30 minute very windy up mountain drive. Although beautiful it is a pain of your planning on traveling to and from the cabin a lot. The blue ridge parkway was closed while we were there so its possible its much better to get to the cabin this way. From the north through Burnsville is a much easier and about 20 minutes. Burnsville will also be the closest town for supplies and multiple restaurant choices.

Gary: A few minor issues to take note of regarding the house....

  • 4 of 5

Hey Gary: My dad, son, and I stayed in the house before a few years ago, enjoyed our stay again, and are interested in renting the house in the future. Being the property mgr., we made a short list of a few issues I thought you would want to know about: 1) we happen to notice that the outside faucet was wet on the cabin exterior, so it may be leaking; 2) the right front burner on the range was loose/wobbling and needs repair; 3) there was at least one mouse in the house (we've discovered they are somewhat common for mountain houses this time of year....we would have set a trap but did not see one); and 4) the hot water seemed to run out after about one shower, so a repair may need to be made soon.

Let me know you got the message or I'll see about contacting you some other way. The house was fine for us, so don't take anything wrong .....I just was not sure how to get you a message directly.

Peaceful retreat in the mountain woods

  • 4 of 5

I did not want to leave. After one day in the mountain woods, all of the stress I had been carrying melted away. Even though we were up for a family reunion, we spent most of our time on the property and in the cabin. A perfect retreat!

One of the most relaxing weekends of our lives

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Tsunaga cabin was one of the most relaxing weekends of our lives. We loved sitting on the porch, or just sitting inside with the windows cracked, and listening to the sounds of the creek just off the back porch. We went to the Little Switzerland Café and got a picnic lunch to go, and took it with us to enjoy at the bottom of Crabtree Falls. The falls were gorgeous, as were the views from the top of nearby Mount Mitchell (the highest peak in the eastern U.S., with a parking lot and restaurant at the top.) The cabin was very comfortable and peaceful, and we can’t wait for our next opportunity to return!

Cabin and location good, but smells very musty.

  • 3 of 5

We were excited to be in the mountains and stay in the cabin. Sleeping next to stream is heavenly.

Musty smell hits you as soon as you enter and is still in our clothes and has not gone after 2 weeks. The towels and sheets need replacement. Kitchen is good and has all the things you need.

The garbage pickup needs additional payment or must be disposed at a convenience center about 8 miles away and closed on Sundays.

Next door neighbor is trashy with old cars/RV but did not bother us.

Owner asks dishes put back although you are paying cleaning fees. Owner also asks to set the AC to 80 which probably leads to musty smell.

Overall okay, but can be so much more with some minor changes.

Owner's Response: The towels are less then a year old! But will look into replacing them. Garbage pick up is impossible since we are out in the woods far from city spoils. we do have a top notch convenience center on the way to town so easy to dispose of your trash. The woods help keep this cabin hidden from civilization. (very few neighbors). Will see why musty smell but has never been detected in last 40 renters, or ourselves. Nights are around 60 degrees so cabin stays cool all day should not be a factor. The cleaning fee is very reasonable to keep the cabin in top shape, little work by renter is expected, just to help keep costs down and rent fees reasonable.
