Great house but a few cons.

  • 4 of 5

This home has many pluses! Can't get a better view anywhere! Sunset was spectacular and every day we saw bald eagles fly by. Location is excellent. Short distance by car to Oak Harbor and Coupeville. Unfortunately, there were a few issues. The house was incredibly hot for several days. All the windows do not open except for two very small windows in the living room and the crank was broken on one so that remained closed. Owner said there should have been three fans .. only one was there. The cabinets in the kitchen were filled with stuff from other renters, making it impossible to store groceries. Counter space is very, very limited and it would have been nice to have a place to store groceries instead of on the counter. Door on the fridge is filled with partially used condiments - same as someone commented on a year ago in their review. There is no dishwasher and some of the utensils were not clean. There are no mattress pads for the sofa beds downstairs. All of these things are easy fixes and the owner plans to work with the housekeeper to correct these issues.

Owner's Response: I am responding to this renter because I feel I need to explain a couple of issues. I guess I am too nice. I keep condiments in the refrigerator because it is nice to not have to go to the store for a little mustard ketchup or other small condiments if you are only going to be there for a couple of days. it saves you money. Same with the cupboards we have spices, vinegar, sugar, flour and other things that might be useful for you. What ever is in the cupboard is for you to use. We even have Popcorn and Coffee. We have very hard water so the dishes need to be dried or they leave spots. With a beautiful view comes heat. We had just had a renter break the window latch so it had not been replaced yet. If you open the doors there is a wonderful cross breeze that comes in and also window shades that block the sun but you can still see through. That all works well to keep the heat away. We do have fans. I think with any vacation rental you will have different people who think things should be different. We are very happy with our place and have many returning renters so things must be good. Suzie

Lots of good, but some housekeeping issues

  • 3 of 5

PROS:

• VIEW: The view really is spectacular, “million dollar view” is an accurate statement. Sunsets are gorgeous and you can sit on the patio and see ships in the sound and eagles over the cliffs.

• LOCATION: the house is north of Coupeville and south of Oak Harbor, at a nice distance to make each very accessible. It’s a quiet rural area that’s also great for walks and runs.

• SPACE: The house is very roomy and can easily accommodate a large group.

• PARKING/STORAGE: Plenty of room for 4 cars and storage for kayaks and such in the garage.

• WIFI: the house has free wi-fi that runs at a good speed.

Cons:

• HOUSEKEEPING: This was an issue. The housekeeper did a fair job cleaning, but overlooked some major things. We found a used bar of soap in the shower, a pizza crust and empty potato chip bag under the kitchen sink, and old cheerios under the couches. The fridge door was completely full of partially used condiment bottles. You may consider this a plus depending on your preference, but I considered it a negative. There is a balance between leaving items for the next tenant in order to be helpful, and just leaving garbage, and I thought this amount of old, used stuff crossed the line into garbage. The last piece: the housekeeper forgot that trash day shifted a day due to the holiday, so she left a pile of trash overflowing outside. Much of the trash was loose and not bagged, and it reeked, and I did not appreciate having to clean the previous tenant’s mess.

• PHONE SIGNAL: the area has poor cell coverage.

• HEAT: in the summer, the upstairs gets stifling hot in the afternoon, despite opening all windows and drawing the shades.

OVERALL:

• The house did the trick for us for exactly what we needed, a temporary home after our movers packed us out, and a place for visiting family to enjoy with us. I hope the owner resolves the issues with the housekeeper. I was mostly disappointed that after informing the owner of these issues, she initially did not reply. After a second contact, she apologized for the condition of the house and that was that. I understand a VRBO is not a full service hotel, but this house's cleanliness at move-in was below average compared to the other VRBOs I've stayed in.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Our house keeper was notified right away of the problem. We usually do not have a housekeeping issue as you see by the other reviews. The condiments were left there for our guest and they have commented how nice it was to have them. We will be more careful in the future which ones to keep. Our house keeper cleared our refrigerator after your emails. We are here now and wished we had some jam that was usually left in the refrigerator. Boo hoo.

Comfy, well equipped, great location

  • 5 of 5

Million Dollar View is a very nice, comfortable beach house with a knock-out view. On arrival, the house was spotlessly clean. The decor was just like my Mom's house in the 70's - fun and inviting. They've thought of everything, as the kitchen is well stocked both with equipment and basic spices, condiments, paper products.

A big hit with hubby was the 4, yes, 4 recliners in the living room, complete with a bright reading lamp by each one. The beds were really comfy with nice sheets. Bathrooms of good size with room for toiletries plus nice soaps/shampoos in the showers. We didn't use the downstairs but it was very clean as well. The view was spectacular, both across the Strait to Port Townsend, Dungeness Spit and the Olympics; and just out the window for deer, rabbits and nesting killdeer (birds). The neighborhood is interesting to walk and really quiet. The beach is reached by a trail not far from the house (maybe 7 minutes walk). We gathered many agates, jade, and beautiful stones.

Activities: Dinners in Coupeville (10 minute drive) at the Front Street Grille and Christophers showcased the wonderful bounty of Whidbey Island seafood. We also took the ferry to Port Townsend - parked at the ferry terminal (free on the side of the road) then walked on the ferry ($3.25 per person each way) to spend the afternoon and enjoy dinner downtown.

You'll enjoy Million Dollar View and all that it offers! thanks to the gracious owners - we'll be back!

loved loved this house!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here the week of Thanksgiving and it was a perfect home base for a week.

Our son and his girlfriend joined us for the week and this house was perfect.

We made Thanksgiving dinner and had everything we needed to cook a wonderful dinner.

The beds were very comfy and having an extra queen bed in the master was perfect for our 3 year old.

We loved driving around the island and seeing the beautiful island and surrounding area.

Do make sure you check the ferry schedule we had one issue as they take reservations for Coupville/Portownsend and was unable to get on 2 ferrys in one outing so we got a refund and went into town where I found some wonderful gifts, so for us still ended up having a wonderful day!

The owner responds very quickly and was always nice to deal with.

Better than advertised

  • 5 of 5

The view from this property was breathtaking. The house itself was better equipped than any rental I have ever seen and even had a full size kitchenaid mixer. You could truly come here with your clothes and food and be more than comfortable. We look forward to a return visit

All the comforts of home (with a Million Dollar View...)

  • 5 of 5

I normally don't write reviews but this vacation rental is over the top!!! Enviting atmosphere which makes you feel at ease to make yourself at home. Plenty of space to kick back and relax. Two families could easily be comfortable in this home. All the comforts of home at a reasonable price. Excellent communication with very kind and accommodating owners. Turn key rental. Quiet, peaceful neighborhood with easy access to the island north or south. Planning another stay next summer for extended family retreat.
