House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 6 Sleeps
About Ben Weiner
My husband is a Cornell Alumni and Ithaca holds a special place in his heart. Although we live in Brooklyn, we visit the house as much as we can and like nothing better than relaxing on the deck and enjoying the lovely sunsets.
Ben Weiner purchased this House in 1995
Why Ben Weiner chose Ithaca
The large outdoor area makes it ideal for a family vacation or celebration. The water is deep enough to dive into from the dock and the Farmer's Market is a short kayak ride away!
What makes this House unique
The large expanse of lake frontage and decking make this property unique and a perfect setting for outdoor entertaining.

Family vacation on Lake Cayuga
Great location and lake front experience. Property comes stocked with lots of things you could want or need - kitchen needs, kayaks, etc. Lots of stairs, probably not the best for older folks or families with young toddlers. The main kitchen/dining/bedroom floor could use a couple more comfortable chairs to lounge in.
Weekend on the lake
We had a great stay from Thursday to Saturday. Wish it could have been longer but we understand. Just a few comments. The oven door does not close properly and as a result it heats up slowly and the knobs above the oven door get etremely hot. Dishwasher door does not close very well either. That might explain why the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes when we arrived. The mayfly situation there is interesting. All the windows have screens but the bugs are able to get into the house through gaps that exist between the edges of the screens and the window frames. At sundown we closed all windows and if we were out of the house and planning to return to the house after dark we closed all the windows and left no lights on. All in all it was a great time and we would do it again.
Pros and Cons
I find it simpler to provide the pros and cons when doing a review. First there are cons that can't be controlled by the owners but need to be mentioned. Parking is as described but the road is very busy and it can be difficult, especially using the lower level or if you have something in tow.
Due to algae bloom, the lake is not recommended for swimming. I don't know when or if this problem will be remedied but check before you make plans.
Pros: The owners are responsive, helpful and provide detailed information. The rooms are clean and although there is breeze for the house, it was good that the bedrooms have air conditioning. It is well stocked with cleaning and cooking supplies. We didn't need to bring anything but our own food. It is a beautiful location and you will enjoy sitting on the deck looking at the view. The dock is nice and has tables and benches. If you're bringing a boat the launch is conveniently close. You need to have good bumpers as the water can get very rough.
Cons: The "master bedroom" has no type of shading and consequently is very bright in the early morning. Although they have sky lights, curtains for the windows would help considerably. The bathroom of the smaller bedroom has a constant musky odor. We left the exhaust fan on all the time with the door open but it was not very effective. The tubs of both baths are deep and it can be difficult to get in and out. A grab bar should be installed.
I rate every place I stay using HomeAway. My ratings are not intended to bash the owners but to provide real experience information to the traveler.
Good spot for Cornell visit
Convenient with a lovely lake view, responsive owners and plenty of space. Interior is quirky but we really enjoyed the decks and lake view. Responsive owners and easy process!
Nice lake house.
Property is situated on the lake and was perfect for our family get together to celebrate Cornell graduation! Communication with owners was great - they were very quick to respond to all inquiries. Very close to Ithaca and wineries.
Hiking trails and waterfalls!
Excellent location for outdoor adventure...biking, hiking, walking, sailing, boating. Well laid out house with three comfortable bedrooms. Pool table, dart board and games keep boredom away during rainy weather. Levels do test older knees but also provide lovely views. Kitchen well designed and well equipped for many hands working together. A few minuses: Master bath is a bit daunting for anyone who simply wants a shower. AC in window of master bedroom detracts from the view and general appeal of the room. Would not recommend this lake for those who wish to spend much time in the water. Lake is overwhelmed with weeds that rise to the surface and make swimming uncomfortable. However, we greatly enjoyed our stay and found Jane and Ben very responsive to communication.
