About Mari and Rob
Rob and I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for decades and we think that this is the best place on earth. We have two school-aged children who love to build sand castles on the beach and swim once (or twice) a day at our community's private kid-friendly pool.
Mari and Rob purchased this House in 2000
Why Mari and Rob chose Freeland
Rob and I bought this big ole beach house just from our dear friends who have had it since 2000. We have been coming to this place ever for many years, filled it with friends, dogs, and beer-pong tournaments back when it still had shag carpet and fake-wood paneling. Since then the house has been slowly upgraded with installing proper walls, windows, and bamboo flooring (we were fine letting that shag carpet go). But it still has its beachy charm with driftwood mantels and a lovely open floorpan that's great for spending quality time with friends and family.
What makes this House unique
We love being set back away from the bustle of the beach, where we have privacy and our kids can roam the HUGE backyard and do loop-de-loops in the cul-de-sac on their bikes. Meanwhile we kick back with a glass of wine on the deck. The view of the water and mountains lets you know you're at the beach, but the size of the house lets you spread out and relax with all your friends and family (beachfront houses in our community are limited to one-story). Mutiny Bay is the best sand beach on the island!

Great place for families
We stayed here for a family wedding on Whidbey - there were 8 of us in the house including a 15-month-old and it was absolutely perfect. The house was exactly what we needed with comfortable bedrooms on both floors and huge windows with great views of the water. There is wifi if you need it and there were plenty of toys for the little one. This house was a really great find for us and we would definitely look to stay here again!
Friends Beach Weekend
Our group of (4) adults and (3) children - ages 4, 5, and 7 - thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The kids were able to play on the beach, in the pool, utilize the cul de sac for scooters/running around and even enjoyed the toys that were included with the house. Great location - Double Bluff Beach is within 20 minutes and great for finding sealife (we found a sea star!) Downtown Freeland is a quick drive - definitely recommend Rocket Taco and Freeland Freeze!
One point of clarification - the house DOES have WiFi. It’s listed under amenities but then states there’s no internet in one of the descriptions. Not that WiFi is extremely important to us (it didn’t prevent us from booking) but it was nice to be able to stream music while we played board games. :)
Comfortable and Roomy
This was a perfect home for our extended family. The bedrooms are large. The two living areas gave options for quiet or activity choices. The community beach was perfect for watching sunsets and camp fires. The pool was a wonderful bonus. We plan to rent this house again!
Great for large families
Large house near beach on Whidbey Island. Great for large families - comfortably housed my family of 6 adults and 4 small children. Well stocked kitchen, lots of towels, everything is labeled so it's easy to find the essentials. Would stay here again.
Nice spot for a family vacation, good value!
We spent 3 days there for a family reunion. For the good, the house is right across the street from a beautiful beach and fairly central in the Southern part of Whidbey. We stopped by the farmers market on Friday nearby which was delightful. Rob and Mari were very communicative. Everything was as-advertised and very clean.
I'm only giving this a 4/5 overall due to the fact that there isn't much furniture and the furniture is dated...for example only a 19" TV. The house is not luxury but it is very nice. However at the rental price level it is a good value, I can't complain.
Overall the entire family had a lovely time on Whidbey and no one had anything bad to say about the house. And that beach!
Great Place for a Family Get-Together
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This property was perfect for our small family reunion. The kids had a safe place to play in the backyard and to use scooters in the cul-de-sac. The 4 bedrooms worked well for us with the two floors providing privacy and extra space. We love Whidbey Island and this was a great base for exploring the island.
The owners, Mari & Rob, were very accommodating and very fast answering our emails.
Whidbey Island has quaint seaside villages, gourmet restaurants, lush forests, and beautiful beaches. Enjoy:
- Mutiny Bay's golden sand beach--beachcomb, build sand castles, roast s'mores
- Whidbey State Parks--count the steps in Admiralty Lighthouse, play hide and seek in Fort Casey's bunkers, hike the windblown bluff at Fort Ebey
- Excellent fishing, crabbing, shrimping in Mutiny Bay--launch at Mutiny Bay public boat ramp just south of us; launch at Bush Point public boat ramp just north of us
- Five public golf courses--Holmes Harbor 18-hole course is just a 5-min. drive away
- Great backroads biking--cycle through rolling farmlands and past stunning water vistas
- Whidbey's cute seaside towns--shop farmer's markets in Bayview, taste wine in Greenbank, buy mussels in Coupeville, gallery hop and antique hunt in Langley
