After spending many vacations in the mountains of North Carolina, we decided to build what we considered a comfortable cabin, not too big, not too small, easy to access, secluded and we think we did just that!!!

DEBRA COKER purchased this cabin in 2007

Why DEBRA COKER chose North Carolina Mountains

Barefoot Trace is located close to town, off a major highway, down a short one lane road with only two properties after ours. It is one story so no stairs and has a large flat field great for playing ball, games, watching wildlife (bear, deer, turkey) right off the front porch overlooking the Cartoogechaye River. Very relaxing, secluded and restful!

What makes this cabin unique

Easy access, fairly flat ground (hard to find in the mountains) and short drive from town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As usual our month here was wonderful. It is so peaceful and such a great place for Jerry's rehab. We spend hours on the front porch playing games, eating our meals, or just listening to the creek flowing and the quiet surroundings. One of our thrills was seeing three deer in the back (they come out between 7-7:30 a.m.), a cute little rabbit that came out every day, a blue heron flying over the creek, a family of cardinals and our "pet" hummingbirds who never failed to entertain us each day.

I had the best Rueben sandwich I've ever had at Café Rel. Jerry also loved his gyro. Lucio's, Cafe' Rel, and Mrs. Lois' are our three favorite restaurants. There is a new coffee shop on 441S that has great bagels and hamburgers. It is located next to the Gallery of Gems and Minerals which is a lovely store and where I manage to buy jewelry each year! This store and the Gam Factory both sell my husband's large gem stone trees. Gold City (Uptown) sells his small gem stone trees. Check them out!

We celebrated our 49th anniversary here this year and we're already making plans to celebrate our 50th here next year.

This is a beautiful home and we had an awesome time. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you will need to prepare meals with if you so desire. The 2 master suites are perfect. We spent most of our time on the front porch watching the world go by and watching the corn hole game. I would definitely rent here again. Thank you to the Cokers for sharing their beautiful mountain home.

Wonderful place to vacation

  • 5 of 5

Barefoot Trace is a wonderful place to spend a few days or weeks for rest and relaxation. It is located just off the main road. Once you arrive, you will think you are deep in the woods. It is very quiet and secluded. This is a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin with a floorplan of 2 master bedrooms. Each bedroom has it's own private bath. It was extremely clean upon our arrival. It's easily accessible for those with mobility issues. It's quite large with a couch and 2 recliners in the living area. The king bed is comfortable. Can't comment on the queen bed as we did not use it. It has a full size kitchen with everything we needed to prepare simple meals (except the food). There are plenty of towels. The front porch is large and has a great view of the front yard. You can catch glimpses of the creek and can hear it all the time. The porch is great for relaxing, reading a book, watching the birds and fireflies...and for listening to the rain! It's an easy walk to the creek. There is an area where you can build a small fire for roasting hotdogs or marshmallows. There is a washer and dryer available for your use. If coming beware you have to supply your own paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies. All in all this is a fantastic place to spend your vacation. Highly recommended! We also appreciated the cleaning upon our departure being taken care of by the owner. I don't like to clean when I am on vacation!

Just to note, there was some confusion on the dates we requested and the owner returning our security deposit before we stayed, but all the details were ironed out and all was well.

God's Country

  • 5 of 5

Barefoot Trace cabin is warm and welcoming and has all the comforts of home and then some. We're nature lovers so we really enjoyed the private cabin setting, but still being only minutes away from shopping and sightseeing. Looking out from the front porch, the deer seem to enjoy the private creek too!

Historic downtown Franklin is only 15 minutes away and has quaint little shops to browse and great eateries to choose from. We're golfers and Sequoyah National Golf Course and Waynesville Country Club have breathtaking views and are only 30-40 minutes away. The side trip to Highlands on 64/28 East was like driving on the Blue Ridge and we saw some spectacular falls along the way, especially Dry Falls!

We feel so blessed to have stayed in such a wonderfully furnished cabin in God's country. Thanks Billy and Debra for sharing your home away from home.
