Owls Nest on Otter Creek

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 6 Sleeps

A charming cottage sitting on a three acre peninsula surrounded by the waters of the "landlocked" portion of Otter Creek. There is a floating dock on the property with a kayak ramp allowing you access to the unspoiled beauty of this section of the creek, it is a birders paradise. The headwaters are approximately one and a half miles up stream. The creek flows from there past the cottage where it goes underground coming up on the other side of Mason Creek Road known as "Natural Bridge" creating the portion of Otter Creek that flows into the Homosassa River. We also have deep water dockage available across the street with direct access to the River. Non Smoking Please

Great Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

Nice clean older house in a wooded area surrounded by creeks. Everything we needed was there including a bbq grill and a firepit. We docked our boat across the street but beware there is a submerged tree on the starboard side of the canal as you leave. Rodney was helpful with the couple of minor issues we had for example where is the light switch for the deck lights but that was the extent of our problems. Try the Shed for night life, tackle and boat fuel the crab shack restaurant just upsteam of the Shed has the best fish and chips I've ever had and yes I've even tried them in England. If you are taking a boat and not familar with the area seek local guidance with names like Hell's Gate, Hell's Half Acre and Million Dollar Rock it's good not to open it up without a little info before hand. Stay tight to the markers, enjoy your trip and stay at the Owls Nest we will do it again.

Great place. Pleasantly secluded. Accessible tie up for a boat. Unfortunately, my service dog was treated like a pet. This is a violation of the 'Americans with Disabilities Act' and considered discrimination. It is unlawful to charge me, a disabled american, a non refundable 'pet' deposit for my service dog. The owner of the property needs to familiarize himself with the 'Americans with Disabilities Act.' Out side of this I would recommend this cabin.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. I am happy you had a good time. I was unaware that charging a fee for a service dog was classified as discrimination. I am glad that you have made me aware of this and wish you had done so at the time you checked in. I would have been happy to have made appropriate accommodations.

This was a great stay! The house has everything anyone can need. It's spacious and very comfy. The beds are all very comfortable. It reminds me

of my Grandparents neat clean home. It's very secluded but yet close to everything. The dock is great for sunbathing or fishing off of. There is a nice

gas grill on the large deck which is really handy. There are many good eating places right up the road. The owner Rodney is very friendly and quick to help with what ever you need. If you're making a trip this way be sure to check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Memorial Day 2012

  • 5 of 5

I rented Owls Nest for Memorial Day weekend 2012 with mine and my 2 sisters families. We had a large group and Even though we more than doubled the capacity we were quite comfortable and and found it to be everything we wanted. The property is beautiful and private with lots for the kiddies to do. My 5 year old son and 3 year old nephew both caught thier first fish off the dock in the back. The large 3 acre property is surrounded on 3 sides by Otter Creek so the kids were free to roam because we knew they couldnt wander too far. The house was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for a great weekend. There is plenty of room for parking and we were able to dock our boats on the canal leading to the Homosassa river right across he street.

Rodney was very easy to work with and I hope to visit Owls Nest again soon

Owls nest review

The owl's nest was perfect for us! It was clean, spacious, very well equipped and had the feel of staying in a bed and breakfast! Rodney was super nice. He met us at the property and gave us a tour of the area including where to dock the boat and the best places to eat. I highly recommend it!
