The Dijkstra house is nestled on the side of Mount Agassiz in the heart of the White Mountains on 7 acres. The house, designed by Dutch architect Tjeerd Dijkstra, is a modern post and beam construction. The house is less than 2 miles from the downtown.
It features large windows giving an expansive view of the valley and surrounding moutains.
On the first floor there is a large living room with a brick fireplace, 46 inch TV and cathedral ceiling; a fully equipped modern kitchen featuring high quality amenities including an induction stove; microwave, wall oven, refrigerator and dishwasher.
The house is also equipped with a workshop, wireless internet, a mud room with washer and dryer, large deck with child safety rails, outdoor furniture and a charcoal grill.
On the 2nd floor are four bedrooms: one featuring a king size bed, one two twin size beds and sink, one a twin size bunk bed and sink. and a smaller fourth bed room best suited for a child/teenager.
We chose to purchase and build on this land as it offers spectacular views of the valley. We like to say that we build the house around the view.
The house is in the heart of the White Mountains and offers skiing, hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing and more.
My family of a toddler, pre-schooler, husband and I, had a wonderful time at the Dijkstra House. Jen was very easy to talk to, and gave us lots of tips on what to do. The house is beautiful, functional, and had everything we could ask for. The galley kitchen was very well equipped, there were toys/board games to keep the kids entertained all day, and even on a rainy day. The views were gorgeous, we could just spend all day at this house, without having to venture out. The backyard has wild flowers, that my older one loved to pick. We used the grill, and relaxed on the patio. The wrap-around deck proved a hit with both kids playing hide and seek! The books were a nice touch, and we enjoyed them as well.
A special shout out to Mike Heath, the care-taker. We took a wrong turn uphill, and got stuck, trying to reach the house. He was so kind to tow us out. The house is easily accessible, a gently down slope from Mt.View Rd. Mike also helped us figure out the washer :) We were being too careful and did not want to use too much force, to open the door. Can't wait to come back to this house! Thanks Jen and Mike!
Our family was thrilled with the Dijkstra House. It is very unique. If IKEA built a model home, this would be it! Our grandchildren loved the playcorner, complete with toys. Our daughter in law was impressed with the state of the art kitchen, my husband loved the deck with the view, and I loved the openness of the entire first level.
**To reach this beautiful place you must drive on a bumpy and rather steep unpaved road for over a half mile. We had a minivan and did just fine, but the weather was perfect. We plan to return in the Fall. The owners were wonderful to work with.
We enjoyed a fully stocked house, complete with a beautiful view! The home was designed perfectly with a modern mountain feel, great for friends or families. With comfy beds, a well-kept home, and hiking all around- we have a GREAT vacation!
