The Heron Cottage, Island Cottage Company

Overview

Property Details

Updated: May 10, 2016
Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Notice! There have been quite a few additions to the vacation rental market on St. Simons Island over the past year or more. This is primarily due to the economic crisis. Many homes may not be well furnished or may be in trouble financially, so make sure you do your homework!

This beautiful Island Cottage Home sits on a large piece of property in a perfect location near the Village. Walnut flooring, granite, a wood burning fireplace on a huge screened in porch make this a make this an absolutely luxurious island getaway!

This is not a second home with personal belongings in it, but rather a boutique cottage that we use exclusively for our guests at Island Cottage Company, a family owned business we started 7 years ago! We have lots of repeat guests and are happy to provide references.

This 3 Bedroom, 3 bathroom home (sleeps 6) is located just a short walk from Mallery Park and the Village and Pier Area on St. Simons, which boasts wonderful pubs, restaurants, two parks, beach access and a perfect public pool, along with tennis courts and a GREAT little library. Guests rave about the high quality furnishings, linens and comfortable beds!

The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and has easy access to the

many bicycle and walking paths that St. Simons Island has to offer.

Screened in back porch overlooks a large back yard with a wooded back drop behind the fence. Complete with an outdoor shower, it is the perfect place for entertaining. All the neighbors are wonderful people and we take care to ensure that our guests feel at home and respect the folks that live here permanently. Loud noise or parties are not appropriate for this area.

Best vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

My family booked with Island Cottage Company for a little break from work over our spring break. It was exactly what we were hoping for. Michele met us when we arrived and spent time helping us choose where we would eat and what kinds of activities we might enjoy. The was wine and cheese waiting for us and the cottage was gorgeous! And I should mention that it was impeccably clean. We will definitely be back!

Girls week getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The Heron is the perfect cottage for a vacation. Room for families and in our case, a weeks getaway for 3 friends. We each had our own bedroom and bathroom. Peaceful and quiet neighborhood. Beautiful decor inside and the screened in back porch with fireplace is a dream to set out back and enjoy your dinner or evening glass of wine. Michele is always the perfect hostess and only a phone call away. We have also stayed in her other cottage The Seagull. You can't go wrong with either!

Comfortably Cozy Clean Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a fabulous cottage and we will definitely be returning! Michelle thought of everything to make the cottage feel like home! It is immaculate, with good linens, roomy , and has comfortable gathering areas. We loved the porches and hope to return during the winter to enjoy the fireplace. It is in a great location in a quiet neighborhood. We were lucky to meet Michelle and she was so sweet and very helpful with recommendations and information.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my time so much I am definitely going back again. The home is immaculate. I am always looking for a place to take my family that feels like a home away from home. I expect it to be well maintained and not feel dated or worn out. I was pleasently surprised with the meticulous eye for detail of the owners of this home. We were greeted with cheese and wine and given names of restaurants to visit and things to do in the area. She made our vacation to the island unforgettable! The layout and amenities of the home were wonderful. The location was convenient to the pier, the park , and several local restaurants. The restaurants we visited were incredible. We rode our bikes to breakfast every morning. We took the car to nearby places for movie theaters and whatnots. The outdoor porch was a favorite hangout at night. In a word it was fabulous!

3 Palms is great!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at this property. It is new, beautiful and clean. The owner is sweet, accomodating and very understanding> Great location, an easy bike ride to the pier or beach. I'd love to come again during the winter because of the fireplace on the screened-in porch. Good value.

Location

Activity and Interests

Golf - Several beautiful public Golf Courses are available with fees

starting as low as ~$28 with cart.

The Village - Cottage is within easy walking distance to 2 parks

(Mallory Park and Neptune Park), public pool, tennis, public library

and the beach. Summer music festivals feature jazz and other local

music groups. Bring a picnic!

The Pool - It might be the only public pool located right on the water on this coast! It is located

right next to the

lighhouse and is absolutely beautiful (the pride of St. Simons). Swim lessons are offered in the

summertime and

lots of locals gather here. Parents can visit the library, the shops or just take a walk while the

kids swim. Big

kids can ride down by themselves to join their friends!

Dining - From locally prepared seafood at many fine local

establishments, to some of our great southern BBQ with sweet tea,

dining on St. Simon's Island is always a great experience. A whole

range of dining options begins in the village, just down the street.

A quiet walk to and from dinner is one of our family's favorite

things about living in this area!

Fishing - Off-shore Deep Sea Fishing charters available most

days weather permitting; Inland Waterway fishing excellent year-

round; surf fishing right on the beach or at the Pier. Try your hand

at crabbing off the pier with the local kids.

Try the Casino Cruise for an evening of offshore dinner and gambling.

Hiking, Exploring - St. Simons Island is literally surrounded by

state and national parks. Take a ferry to Cumberland Island National

Seashore for a historical walking tour or see Okefenokee Swamp by

boat or canoe. Little Talbot Island, Big Talbot Island, Fort Clinch,

and Guana River State Park systems - along with the Sapelo Island

Estuary - offer an unprecedented view of Georgia and North Florida's

natural beauty.

Sea Kayaking - Paddle through many backwater saltmarsh tributaries.

Guided tours available through local adventure companies.

Horseback Riding - Available through the Sea Island stables located

on the North end of St. Simons Island. Go for a nice ride right on

the beach!

Biking - Ride along the beach on a beach cruiser, or use the bike

paths to pick up your groceries for dinner. For a real challenge,

ride your bikes all the way to the north end of the island to tour

Christ Church and Fort Frederica, the site of the original settlement

on St. Simons Island.

Shopping - Historic and quaint, St. Simons Island Village is within

walking distance and is full of cute shops. Spa services and the

shops at the famous Cloister Resort are just a few miles away for the

more upscale tastes. Both the metropolitan areas of Jacksonville and

Historic Savannah are a one hour drive away.

Tennis - Just down the street are public tennis courts that are free

to the public. These courts are in great shape and you'll see our

family there on a sunny afternoon year round!

Pilot? St. Simons Island McKenna airport is less than a mile from

the cottage.

Sports Fan? Jacksonville is home to the NFL's largest stadium -

Alltel Stadium - brand new and located 60 minutes away. Catch a

Jaguars game.

This is also home to the annual Georgia-Florida rivalry. During

Football season you can join the many who come to St. Simons Island

for all the festivities.

Like the Theatre? Choose from our local theatre group, the Island

Players, located in the Village next to the library or take a drive

to Jacksonville or Savannah where several fine theatres present

extraordinary shows for your entertainment. The Alhambra Dinner

Theatre presents dinner and fine Broadway shows. The Florida Theatre

hosts the Symphony, Pops and many fine traveling Jazz, Dance and

other entertainers each season. Each year the FCCJ Artist Series

featuring Broadway shows has a number of fine shows at the Time-Union

Center for the Performing Arts.

Museums - The Cummer Museum, Brest Planetarium, Zoological Gardens,

Museum of Modern Art, Aviation Museum, Maritime Museum Society,

Museum of Southern History and Kingsley Plantation are just some of

the major attractions that make wonderful regional day trips.

Go to the Zoo! Just 60 minutes south is the beautiful Jacksonville

Zoo, positioned along the St. John's river. The zoo is quite nice

and can take a full day to see everything properly.

Visit the Millionaire's Village on Jekyll Island, just south of St.

Simons, for a view of how the rich and famous vacationed during the

Industrial Revolution. Family 'cottages' with names like Morgan and

Carnegie await you during this short 1/2 day trip.
