Colorado Mountain Lodge Luxury Living Set on Blue River and Alpine Peaks

  • 5 of 5

Breckenridge, Colorado has some of the most breathtaking alpine views and peaks anywhere. I just didn't expect it at our home away from home at the Cold Water Creek Lodge. Nestled against the National Forest, this unique very large home (lodge is appropriate) sits on the Blue River just 30 feet off the back porch. The sound of rushing water careening over rocks lulls you into a relaxed state absent the city noises I am use to back in Los Angeles. Looking up from the river in the evening, the sun sets behind you casting a golden glow reflecting off the treeless 14000 foot peaks partly shadowed in the lower elevations. The forest of pines and aspens provide a feeling of seclusion as the closest property is about a quarter mile away without blocking any of the spectacular views. The McCullough Canyon trail is about 200 yards away and leads to cool and dark forested areas with some of the trails running along one of the largest feeder creeks for the Blue River.

When we travel with family and join up with friends, we have usually stayed in hotels or resident inns that have kitchens. We had a larger group planned this trip with family also coming in from Atlanta. We lucked out in nabbing this gorgeous lodge when another group had to cancel due to health reasons. We got a wonderful call from Mark Ronchetti, the owner, who explained the facility features and general information about the area. When I asked about the weather this time of year, he was super knowledgeable about the weather patterns, temperatures, and recommendations for July in Breckridge. Mark Ronchetti has been the Chief Meteorologist for KRQE news 13 and 2 KASA Fox since 2006. You will find this large home that can easily accommodate 16 people to be roomy, with a separate stairs to upstairs quarters for 8 over the garage (2 can use the sofa sleeper in the game room) that is meant for the younger crowd with a large separate game room. The kitchen was fabulous with a very large central island with its own prep sink and unique metal tractor chair adjustable seats that seat around the bar type counter. With two dish washers, two large ovens, and a commercial style gas stove, and all the pots, pans, dishes, glassware and cooking utensils, we had no problems enjoying the cook atmosphere of friends and family. The BBQ outside on the back porch was adequate. There are so many other features we enjoyed about this property, but you will have to book a stay to discover them yourself.

Gorgeous home with a view to match!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Cold Water Creek Lodge. The home was beautiful, from the wood floors to the windows everywhere showing off the view of the mountains. The kitchen was well stocked which was very helpful, and one of the best we have found throughout our rental experiences. We enjoyed the firepits and hot tubs, it was a favorite place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or watching the sunset over the mountains. The Ronchettis were great to deal with, very reliable, helpful and prompt in responding. Would highly recommend anyone looking to come to Breckenridge to stay here! The sound of the creek was also one of my favorite parts of the house. We left our windows open at night to cool the room, and that sound was so peaceful. Beautiful hidden gem!!

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with all of our children and our granddaughter at the Lodge on the Blue River. Words just can't express how accommodating and gorgeous this property was. We really needed nothing to make our stay complete except groceries. The guys went fishing immediately upon arrival, just outside the back of the house on the Blue River. We slept with our windows open every night to feel the cool Colorado air and to hear the river just outside our window. Their were two hot tubs, one in the back and one in the front of the house and both with gorgeous views. The only complaint I really have is that the larger of the two hot tubs wasn't working while we were there (never got hot) and they didn't show up to fix it until we were packing up our car to leave. So we had to limit how many could get in the smaller one to 3 people.

To top off my trip we saw two moose outside the back the house. I think that might the first time I've ever seen one! That was very cool! We took walks up the very private road to the dead end and next to the house there were walking trails with beautiful water falls along the way! It was stunning!!

My whole family loved there trip to Colorado and the house was just exceptional!!

Thank you Mark for making your home so comfortable and homey!

Amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

I can not fully express how delighted we were with our stay at Blue Rive Lodge. It is awesome! The lodge is perfectly located, away from the tourist parts of Breckenridge. It is located right on the Blue River and that was so cool! The river was really flowing because of the ice melt. We loved spending time sitting on the patio, fire pit going and listening to the river rush! The house is immaculate. The bedrooms are large each with its own bath. We had three families and 5 grandchildren. The bunk house was perfect as the six bunks are located next to the game room with the air hockey. We never heard the kids! Truly, the house was perfect. Extra things like boots warmers and dryers were unexpected and well used with damp feet after hiking in some snow left on the trails. The owners were attentive to our needs, which actually were none! Everything you would need is right in the house. We loved our time there and hopefully will return ASAP.

Amazing Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

This place is absolutely beautiful. The setup of the house was perfect for multiple families and friends. We loved the open concept of the great room and kitchen and deck. There is plenty of seating for a large group to visit and entertain themselves. The house was very clean and well-equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable and enjoyable vacation. The views from this property are simply breathtaking, we had a blast playing in the snow!

Highly recommended and would look forward to staying again soon.

Second Stay, More to Come

  • 5 of 5

We arrived for our second spring break stay at CWC. Driving to and walking into the house felt like coming home. CWC is set in a beautiful location, with the Blue River running behind the house and amazing views of Quandary Peak out the panoramic front windows. This house is wonderfully maintained and stocked. (much better stocked than some other VRBO's we have visited). It is easy to find and access, even on snowy days. During our stay there was over 40 inches of snow. Each morning, the street and driveway was plowed well before we needed to get out. And by the early morning, the porches and walks had been shoveled. Our two labrador retrievers love the area. The older one taking it easy on the plowed areas. The big younger one, bounding through the snow.

We loved the stay so much we tried to extend for a few days, but unfortunately, the house was booked.

We will return to CWC many times.
