Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Huul Kiin. Lizette, the owner, was very prompt, both in meeting us at the property and checking us out at the end of our stay. The beds were comfortable and the hammocks great, for use indoors and out. Our favorite part of the day, was having the sun rise in the east, shine through our window and the palm trees. We sat on the patio in the padded beach chairs and watched the pelicans fish for hours--it was lovely! Provisions in the house were more than suitable with beach towels, bath towels, and plenty of kitchen items. There was warm water which was wonderful in the shower and for washing dishes. The refrigerator was large and worked well. Lizette provided over 20 gallons of drinking water and also gave us a welcome tray of fresh fruit, wine and coffee which we really enjoyed!! In addition, she had a vase of beautiful flowers on the dining room table. She is an incredibly warm and wonderful hostess. She provided us with her cell phone number and told us to call should we need anything at all. She checked in with some friends of ours to make sure we were doing okay. She also inquired about taxis and costs to travel from Chelem to Merida, and put us in touch with Fredy, whom we did call on for transportation a couple of times. He too was extremely friendly and accommodating! Lizette told us that she hopes to make some changes on the house; adding a bathroom and possibly an upstairs bedroom and a pool. Those would be great additions! I believe a second bathroom which did not connect right to the sandy beach outside would be a very good idea--it would be much cleaner. The view from a proposed second story would be incredible! My suggestions to Lizette were that she have someone clean up the beach and all around the casita prior to any guest arrival. I know it is difficult to stay on top of this because the wind blows every day and the tide brings in refuse, but it truly needs to be done so people feel it is clean. I also would suggest a more thorough cleaning of the house and the refrigerator especially. Keeping a beach house clean, is also hard due to the sand, but I think a little better cleaning would make most guests feel more comfortable. My final comments to people renting this property would be that you either need to really stock up on groceries for your stay and/or have access to a vehicle as there isn't anything within walking distance. This property is quiet and nice. Nos encanto!

Fantastic stay at Casa Huul Kiin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I (from San Diego) flew into Merida and rented a car. We made the easy trip from the airport to Casa Huul Kiin--Lizette's directions were very helpful. Once we arrived at the property, Lizette and Gino were there to greet us (with a bottle of wine and local fruits). They welcomed us to their beautiful property. They are such a nice and friendly couple! They gave us a tour of the property and also gave us lots of information and suggestions about places to go. The property is EXACTLY like the photos. It is right on the beach. The interior is nicely designed and was clean, and the house is very well-equipped. The pool and palapa are gorgeous. We were so happy and excited when we arrived to this beautiful oasis! Often times, places are not exactly as they appear in the photos, but this house was even beyond what we were expecting!

The beach in front of the house was the perfect getaway for us. It was quiet and the water was beautiful for swimming. A local fisherman drove by the property each day to offer us freshly-caught fish for sale at a cheap price. We loved staying in Chelem because it was so quiet and relaxing, yet with our rental car, it was so easy to take day excursions to many places in the Yucatan. We went to Celestun to see the flamingos, went to a working hacienda (Sotuta de Peon), and went into Merida. There are so many other things to do and see in this area, but we also just wanted to relax at the house and enjoy the beautiful beach there!

Overall, I can't say enough wonderful things about this house and about Lizette and Gino. They made the trip BACK to the house (from their home in Merida) on the day we left to say goodbye to us. If you are interested in staying in this part of Mexico, you should DEFINITELY book this property. We felt it was such a good price for everything we got. We will remember this trip always, and are looking forward to returning to Casa Huul Kiin. Gracias Lizette and Gino!!!!!

Calming, Relaxing Home on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

Lizette and Gino, the owners are such wonderful, kind people. We arrived at Casa almost 3 hours later due to car problems in Cancun after landing. After an exhausting day and thank heavens for GPS, (for the last 15 mins.) we arrived and were greeted by smiling faces and warm hugs that instanly relaxed us. Lizette said to consider the Casa "our home” and enjoy all that it offers.

We were shown the running of the house, and a welcoming tray of fruits, bag of coffee, small staples and cold beer in the fridge. A nice touch! There is a T.V., DVD, and stereo unit.

Casa Huul is right on the beach, clean and beautifully decorated and is equipped with everything that you need. Of course you buy your own groceries. What a very spacious home with two large bedrooms and two bathrooms, and a hammock that you could move anywhere in the house or on the patios. A living room, dining room and four outside areas to chose to relax in. There is a raised Palapa in the back that gives you a view from above, an area below it with table and chairs with a BB.Q., and a smaller sitting area at the back/side by your very own pool! We moved when the wind chased us. We were staying there during the “Super-moon” and the strong North winds so only got into the ocean 2-3 times.

Lizette gave us some suggestions of restaurants, grocery stores, places of interest, etc., as well as some phamplets left on the counter. There is a very small village about 5 mins away and a larger one in Progresso about 15 mins away that has grocery stores and banks. We went to the AKAI grocery store as there was an HSBC bank across the street. We also used the ATM machine at the Naval Base (2nd entrance) that was 7 mins away.

Any small problems or issues we only needed to send a quick email and Lizette and Gino were there and it was handled. We can’t thank them enough for all their help when we ran into trouble with our Visa and banking.

Lizette, I so enjoyed our many chats. Certainly a relaxing vacation made possible with all the wonderful ammenities provided and two personable, caring people who truly want you to enjoy Casa Huul - House of Sunshine. Hope to return one day!

Ein kleines Stück Paradies

  • 5 of 5

Amazing Casa Huul Kiin

  • 5 of 5

This was my first experience booking a vacation home online and everything was spectacular. The listing description of the casa is spot on including layout and amenities. Lizette and her husband Gino, met us at the property and were so accommodating. They also own the property next door which is larger, and beautiful if you had a larger group and required two properties. The property was clean, well maintained, and Lizette also arranged for a cleaner to come during the week that we stayed.

Chelem was very quiet this time of year, so very relaxing. Still local restaurants were open if you felt like a night out. Easy to meet great people in town. It's proximity to Progresso, and Merida is excellent. All the conveniences you need.

I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. I would stay again.

Lizette and Gino are incredible hosts!

Lovely home in a tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

We visited the Yucatan for a week the end of June and made Chelem our home base for hanging out and exploring. We stayed in two houses and had a terrific time. Casa Huul Kiin was one of the houses and was particularly lovely as it is a tastefully designed and decorated 2 bedroom beach house with a great shaded wading pool, palapa for sitting and watching the sunset and front porch to enjoy the sounds of the ocean. Add a always available, excellent host in Lizette the owner and it is a perfect choice for a vacation in the Yucatan. Chelem is also a great base to start from as you get the benefit of a secluded fishing/beach town so,you can wander the beach, hire a fishing guide and eat at lots of good little resteraunts plus you are proximite to everything from Mayan Ruins on the Ruta Puuc, Cenotes galore and colonial Merida.

Tranquil breeze

  • 5 of 5

This was just what I needed. A beautiful place to turn off the stress and relax in the sun and sand. The house was quaint. The pictures posted fail to capture the feel of the breeze and the warmth of the sun. We are looking forward to returning as soon as possible.

Location

Activity and Interests

La Playa de Chelem or Costa Azul restaurants offer a

comfortable dinner option.

For those interested in taking in the natural beauty of this area, a

trip to Isla Pajaros, or Bird Island, is the perfect way to tour the

mangrove that is home to an abundance of wildlife, includingturtles,

flamingos, ducks and many species of crabs. At the end of this short

tour, don't forget to enjoy the crystal clear waters of Isla Pajaros.

The trip takes approximately and hour and a half and leaves the Port

of Chelem every day of the year.

Progreso is a 15 minute drive. It has a beautiful sea-wall with

restaurants overlooking the 5 mile longest pier in the world.

Mérida is a 30 minute drive. The most beautiful colonial city in

México, it is known as the white city not only for its many white

limestone buildings, but because it´s streets, plazas and parks

are cleaned daily. You will find familiar conveniences at Costco,

Sam´s Club, Wall Mart, Fridays, Subway. You can go shopping at the

mall, go dancing until dawn, and there are VIP movie theater and

museums. You can take a city tour in a horse and buggy and see the

grand colonial architecture which dates back to the 1500´s.

Uaymitun is a 20 minute drive. It is a flamingo sanctuary where you

can watch these magnificent pink birds in their natural habitat. The

flamingo sanctuary wetlands are along the Gulf Coast. It is a unique

shallow water sanctuary where freshwater from cenotes(natural wells)

blend with salt water, creating the perfect feeding grounds for

flamingos.

Celestun is a national wild life refuge and is a 1 1/2 hour drive.

Touring this area on a boat is relaxing and rewarding.

Mayan ruins:

Dzibichaltun is a 25 minute drive. This Mayan site is a national

park and it is 9 miles north of

Merida, along the road to Progreso. Here you will find Mayan ruins,

nature trails, a cenote and the Museum of the Maya People, one of

the most comprehensive museums in Yucatan.

Chichen Itza is a 2 1/2 hour drive. It is considered one of the 7

Wonders of the World. It is the largest Mayan ruin in Yucatán. Not

to be missed.

Valladolid is 25 miles from Chichen Itza. It is a quiet charming

colonial town with a pleasant Main Plaza. Here you will see the

majority of the townspeople still using the typical dress of the

Maya. It features two very important cenotes that are good for

swimming.

Uxmal is 50 miles south from Mérida. It is smaller than Chichen

Itza. Its architecture, some of the most majestic of the Yucatan

ruins, is characterized by low horizontal palaces set around

courtyards, decorated with rich sculptural elements and details.

Notes:

  • The azure sea is 86 degrees in the summer months, perfect for swimming, boogie boarding, and shelling. The house is located at the border of a fishing town called Chuburna, which is a non-tourist area and it is very quiet and private. The gentle, warm ocean is inviting and refreshing. The cooling ocean breeze is the perfect air conditioner Enjoy coffee or a cold drink sitting out in the terrace, take a stroll on the beach, read a book or just relax in a hammock all day long. We own four beach front houses in this area, and we rent all. Please see the other houses “ LA TINTINKI”, "LA CASITA DE CHELEM" and " LA CASA DEL XIX" The town of Chelem description: Chelem is a small fishing town with a calm environment which makes it the ideal place to relax and enjoy the sea. Chelem is known for its sandy streets, coconut palm trees, and a multitude of animal life including flamingos, ducks, pelicans, herons, and at the end of a rainy day, dolphins are known to appear across the horizon. The lunch time in town, you can enjoy fried or steamed fish or any other type of fresh seafood that you can imagine. For dessert you can enjoy pie and pudding made from the freshest of coconuts. Chelem has a bakery, pharmacy, 4 tortilla factories for fresh daily tortillas, several small grocery stores, hardware stores for all your household and fishing needs, a cell tower to stay in touch with home as well as internet cafes in nearby Progreso.
