About Heidi SaidiZand

Born and raised in Michigan, we spent many summer weekends exploring and camping with our three children. As they grew and camping became a little more challenging, we started looking for a place to call our second home. We purchased our cottages in the spring of 2004 and spent almost every weekend of every summer there, enjoying the beauty, peacefulness and all the water activities you could think of! We have since moved far enough away that we are unable to enjoy the serenity of Black Lake ourselves so we've made our place available for others to enjoy. We hope you have a wonderful time visiting Black Lake.

Wonderful Week!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 7th or 8th visit to these cottages (I've lost track) and we look forward to going all year long. As usual, we had a great week! The weather was very hot so we spent lots of time in the lake. The kids are usually the ones to jump off the bridge in the channel, but this year my husband and I gave it a try too! The week flew by and we enjoyed our time there. It is such a great location -- it's spoiled us for other places. I hope we will be able to return next year.

We had a great time. Neighbors were friendly and view was great.

  • 4 of 5

Pictures were very true to experience, and the area/lake was great. We also did some fishing right off the seawall and caught/released a few dozen bass/rockbass and one small (22'') pike.

The larger cabin is very nice and has AC.

The smaller cabin is just O.K., but no AC, and built on a slab. Definately a "kids cabin" heh.

Heidi (owner) was very nice and responsive to emails.

Overall a good time

Another GREAT vacation at Black Lake!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! I have lost track of how many years we have rented these cabins. As always, we arrived to clean & comfortable cabins. We got to enjoy our new ski boat for the first 3 days. We skied, surfed, wake-skate and wake-boarded twice a day. When we were younger we could go three or four times a day. But now our hears are willing but our bodies protested! The next 3 days it stormed :( So we hung out in the cabins resting sore muscles (good thing we brought our own physical therapist), reading, watching movies and playing games. Indian River was close by so in between the rain we went and played putt-putt golf and took a raft trip down the Sturgeon river. We made the most it despite the lack of sun! Crossing our fingers that the weather cooperates more next year - the count down to Black Lake 2018 has already begun!

Another Great Summer Vaca!

  • 5 of 5

Sad to leave the lake when our week was over! So far we have rented these cottages for a week for six summers in a row. Each year we look forward to our week at Black Lake. We have always had a wonderful vacation there. Depending on who can join us at the lake differs each year and our guests always love it too. Other than being with family/friends for a week relaxing at the lake, there are 3 other reasons we love it there. 1) The property is awesome. We always keep our eye out on other properties at Black Lake, but none match the location of this one (property is well kept and pretty, cottages are really nice and it is more private because of the bordering channel and lake - property is large!) Having the 2 cottages included is a great perk too; 2) Dealing with the owners is great - easy and they are wonderful; and 3) the lake itself - it is a quiet relaxing lake that is huge and very fun to boat around without too much traffic on the water. Our favorite dinner spot in the area is The 211 (we go there a lot). I could go on and on, but will close by saying - BOOK IT - YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Awesome - No Surprise!

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth stay at the cottages and, no surprise, it was an awesome week as usual! The property has everything it promises and more. Our favorite part of this particular property is the expansive property with the channel on one side and the lake at the back, it has more privacy. Everything was clean and neat. Dealing with the owner is always a pleasure. The new grill was terrific too. Our favorite haunts for dinner are the 211 Bar and Lorenzos for pizza. Happy times!

A Hidden Vacation Gem!!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a great vacation spot, this is absolutely the place to go! You know, growing up in Michigan, I hadn't even heard of Black Lake. But after finding these cottages and the great reviews to boot, I thought it would be a perfect get away for my family.

When I say family, I mean me, my hubby, our 2 kids, my mom & dad, my brother, my sister & her 2 kids. These 2 cottages fit us perfectly! They were very clean, and offered tons of ameneties that made you feel at home. The cottages sit along a canal that was great for fishing & swimming. There was plenty of room to park our boat. I was pleasantly surprised that there was minimal boat traffic for such a busy holiday, so I felt it was very safe to take the kids tubing. The neighbors on either side of the cottages stopped over and introduced themselves...and they made us feel like we had lived there for years!

The weather was fantastic for us...and the average water temp was 75 degrees. We took a short trip (15 min drive) to Ocqueoc Falls during our stay, and we had fun playing in the waterfalls & walking the trails. On the 4th of July, we drove to Mackinaw City (45 min drive) had dinner, did some shopping & watched the fireworks.

The owner was great to work with from start to finish! She quickly answered any questions & concerns that we had. She was very easy to talk if I had known her for years. If you are looking for a hidden vacation gem...this is it! We are now looking at our 2014 summer calandar...BECAUSE WE WANNA GO BACK!!
