Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey Jimbo,

We came back from our trip to Big Pine feeling so renewed -- it was just a perfect getaway for an overworked couple! The fishing was wonderful even though we came during one of the coldest winters I can remember. It was just a great week -- we caught several 20+ inch fish; Rainbows, Goldens and Brookies -- I think wild brookies -- just beautiful!

I loved the house -- it was so comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. Cable TV, a fully outfitted kitchen and plenty of room for gear. If I didn't want to fish all day every day, I would have been happy just to kick back and relax at "home".

Raymond was there anytime we needed anything -- just a phone call away -- and really made us feel welcome. I hope you will tell him how much I appreciate his friendly assistance with everything and patient answers to all of my questions about trout farming. It's fascinating, really.

I can't wait to come back in the spring for some good dry fly fishing, and even though our trip was almost a month ago I find myself thinking about it every day and it makes me smile.

See you soon, and thanks again for having a truly beautiful place.

All the best,

Nancy and JP

Perfect retreat to enjoy a constant relaxing stream backdrop. The property was clean, well maintained and had more to offer than we could possibly experience in one short weekend get-a-way. Thank you for allowing my family to enjoy your home!

You need to stay here!

I could use numerous adjectives to describe our stay at Big Pine Trout Farmhouse, but I think "perfect" is the best word. This house is beautiful! We loved sitting on the front porch and enjoying the sounds of the creek and nature (and no mosquitos!!). Jim and Brenda are excellent hosts - they not only made us feel welcome in their home, but left us with fresh vegetables and blackberries, blackberries and more blackberries. The kitchen is very well-stocked, and a grocery store is a few minutes away. This house is a great example of what makes VRBO so awesome; absolutely, no comparison to staying in a hotel. We felt like we were staying in a friend's home. I can't say enough about our stay here. We had a great time and hated to leave!

Owner's Response: Lori, Don, and family - Thanks so much for your nice comments. We are so happy that we could share our home with you. We have owned Big Pine since 2009 and have been fortunate to share it with such wonderful people as yourselves from all over the United States -- we are happy that your first trip to Virginia to see the mountains was a positive experience and that we could share the beauty and relaxation at Big Pine with you and your family. The blackberries are certainly an added bonus to our July and August guests and they have been especially good this year. Hope the rest of your vacation was very nice and that you made it home safely. Come again if you're ever in the area and pass the word to your friends and family! Jim and Brenda

Perfect escape!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute at this wonderful house. Directions were a little tricky (Would not advise following GPS,as we had quite an adventure, and limited cell service). Plenty of room for myself, husband, three sons, and their girlfriends. Took quick-fix casserole ingredients and groceries from home, and appreciated such a well-appointed kitchen. Lots of pots, pans, bowls, servingware, etc. Played games the first night, enjoyed a movie the second. But the highlight was, of coarse, the fishing! Had the time of our lives catching those beautiful trout! Came home with so many fish and memories! Raymond was so accomodating and gracious. We all enjoyed his company & advise. Loved the Home Place in Catawba for a fantastic dinner (Don't miss it!). Hoping to return this spring for another round!
