About donna sawyer

I am an event stylist and personal chef and live in Holland MI. I grew up going to this resort and eventually bought this cottage so we would always have a piece of this incredible place. I, as a child, and our children have explored, swam, caught frogs and fish, boated, learned how to ski, tubed, climbed the dunes, hiked and so much more at this magical place. It is not Disney magic but it is a magic you get to create with your family!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had so much fun over this week of the fourth of July. The resort had a fishing rodeo on the morning of the fourth for all the kids. They had prizes for everyone and they had pancakes, donuts and coffee. It was great fun. The cottage was perfect for us and clean. Thank you for a great time. We have already booked for next summer. Great experience - Would stay again!

  • 4 of 5

We were completely satisfied with this property and found it absolutely perfect for our needs. It is in a great location for quick and easy access to Hamlin Lake and the Ludington State Park. My son has a bass boat and loved having a covered area to leave his boat docked throughout our long weekend. No , the property is not directly on the water, and no, it's not the Hilton - but that's not what the property advertises - and it's priced accordingly. I wouldn't say the cottage is immaculate, but it's certainly on par with space and cleanliness that one might expect from RV camping in an "up north" town. Sand happens - there's a broom! :) Honestly, we wanted a safe and quiet place to sleep, (it was), and a nice location to enjoy most of our time outdoors, (it was). We appreciated use of the picnic table, grill and fire pit, plus the yard offered plenty of space for my son's corn hole game. I found the owners to be very responsive, pleasant, and flexible and there is also a local caretaker who can be available if needed. If your expectations match what I described here, I think you will enjoy yourself at this quaint little cottage!

You Get What You Pay For

  • 3 of 5

Strong good and bad here. Where else can you have your own place with a full kitchen and a fire pit for about the same price as a good hotel room? It's your classic old up North cottage -- small, outdated ( only a few outlets, no A/C, etc.), houses all around and bad well water. Just what you'd expect from anyplace like this for this money. The location for the state park and other places is great. It does offer wireless and access to Netflix for the kids. Read the description carefully and I'll say it plainly -- the lake is not in sight and the shared beach is a short walk away, accessed via an easement between two neighbors houses. We had a huge grease fire in the dirty grille, the water went out all morning (the landlord reimbursed us a nights stay), the fridge was unplugged and didn't get cool for 3-4 hours and remember to bring EVERYTHING. Don't count on a roll of paper towel, dish soap, etc. All of this may be moot because the for sale sign is out at the road and by the house, so it may or may not be available to be rented next summer.

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

Stayed 2 nights...if your looking for what they are advertising, you will like it :) If you are looking for a JW Marriott this is not. Like some of the other reviews I have read, you can pick apart anything, if you have all the time in the world to write bad reviews. Very cozy & it was exactly what I thought is was going to be. We will stay again, if we are seeking a Quaint Cottage in the woods, that s very close to water.

Quaint, clean, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is quaint, clean, and the perfect location for a relaxing, fun-filled week. The beach on Hamlin Lake was clean and we were able to use the boat slip for our boat. Some of the highlights of this vacation: Going to the dunes for the day, floating down the "lazy" river, House of Flavor, Barnharts Restaurant.
