Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter & I absolutely loved our Cabin!

It had every single thing we needed for our 1 week stay, it was simple yet incredibly warm and cozy!

Oh and...The beds were out of this world comfy!!!!

Our first 2 days at cabin, we were pretty socked in by rain and wind, but it didn't matter we turned on the heat, relaxed, painted, read, played scrabble & enjoyed the pretty view from the sunroom/living room area... :)

Mrs. Barbara Shanahan is by far one of the sweetest people, I have ever met in my entire life..

During our stay, she checked in on us and even brought us all kinds of information & literature for us on the area's things to see & do..

There isn't one thing, I would have changed about our stay at Flanders Bay Cabins.. other then that I wish we could have stayed longer! :)

It was an amazing trip for my daughter & I, we are

hoping to make another trip here in the future!

Thank you again Barbara for EVERYTHING!

Much love,

Rochelle & Emily

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having Rochelle & Emily stay at our cabins in our quiet surroundings. They were lovely guests who enjoyed the water views and made the best of a couple rainy days in the cabins. Thank you for staying with us and I look forward to seeing you again! Barbara😀

Lovely, quiet cabin by the shore!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Flander's Bay Cabins. It was a little more rustic than we anticipated...somehow I didn't realize there wasn't an oven and had to reinvent some meals I had planned stovetop! :) Also, other little things I was expecting weren't there, like paper towels, bath mat, etc. Even so, with a quick trip to the store we had what we needed and enjoyed a comfortable and quiet stay at the cabin. Barbara was super helpful and responsive and made our stay a great one!

We enjoyed Bar Harbor and Acadia on Mt. Desert, but Schoodic Point (just 20+) minutes from the cabin was a highlight. Also, we met the owner of Tracey's restaurant just down the street digging for clams right by the cabin and ate them fried up that very evening at his restaurant. Don't miss that!

A word from parent to parent: We hadn't considered ticks in the area...apparently Maine has a lot of them and it's the place of greatest risk for Lyme Disease. We found one on our son the first night after he had fallen in the grass a couple times. Make sure you bring some good bug/tick repellant to keep your family safe!

We plan on coming back for future family vacations!

Pleasant Enough

  • 4 of 5

The picture of the Water View Cabin is not exactly what you get. There is a row of cabins and the view decreases with each one. There is a walk through the forest to the beach, but not a easy one for evenings (poor lighting) or to take a kayak to.

Barbara was nice, accommodating and easily accessed via phone.

If you want to cook, bring everything but pots and pans, kitchen towels. There are no extras...including paper towels or S&P. For use of the burners you need lighting with a gas lighter or match, neither was available when we got there and the one supplied was so cheaply made we practically broke our fingers trying to make it work. The only sink is the kitchen one and the bathroom is so tiny you can hardly turn around it in or the shower stall, and you might be aware of the problem of having the bathroom off the kitchen, although it provided for a near by sink.

Check the fine print about bringing your own sheets and bathroom towels, or there is a extra charge...it reports.

The little heater is powerful enough but it necessitates keeping the bedroom doors open. One of the owners said, "After all it is a cabin....haven't you ever been in a cabin?'.

The value for the cabin was good, considering the space...although Home Away tacks on their fees, decreasing the value.

Owner's Response: Our vintage cabins are typical of tourist cabins built in the 1950's. We have updated them to make them more comfortable while maintaining the flavor of simpler times. We advise prospective renters to read the descriptions & view all photos. We strive to respond quickly to any of our guest's needs.

Rustic with a capital "R"

  • 4 of 5

What a beautiful view, Barbara is a great manager, wonderful hikes and lobster, over-all a great, relaxing experience. Now, about the cabin...if you are a BIG person (both height or width) you will have to be somewhat of a contortionist to use the toilet or the shower. The kitchen sink is the source for shaving, dishwashing, or any light clean-up...no oven or micro-wave...the coffee maker leaks on the hotplate when the server is removed.

Just several hints...our dog enjoyed his stay...we will be back!!!

Owner's Response: We enjoy interacting with our guests and letting them know the best places to eat lobster! Wish we knew about the coffee maker-easy fix- replaced! Our cabins are for persons looking for simple accommodation with beautiful views! Relax at the water's edge in our outdoor chairs, have a fire & walk our open fields. We are pet friendly and have lots of suggestions where you can take your dog, to swim and even out to eat with you! Over the past we have had many great friendly , well behaved dogs!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Our entire trip was wonderful. The cabin was clean and well stocked with basic household items. We enjoyed the long private drive leading back to the cabins, it was great for the pups morning walk, as well as the large grassy area over looking the beautiful bay & mountains.

The cabin owners were equally as wonderful, very helpful responding to emails and all questions in an efficient and timely manner.

The cabin itself is just a short drive to Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor.

In all I felt this was a great stay for a very reasonable cost. We would definitely stay here again & have already recommended to family & friends!
