ADDITIONAL NOTE: In my 20 yrs of ownership and tramping every inch of the woods and waters I have never seen a poisonous snake at the Refuge. However; I have had reports recently from visitors that they had seen them. MY caution if you have little children please be aware that you are in the woods where it is possible to find a snake. Just be cautious and on the lookout. IF you see one I would like to know about it.

About Frank Andrews

Martha and I (Martha is a pet name because it is more poetic than Carolyn) grew up together and I walked her to school in 1st grade. I married her in 1959 and we have 3 children. I operate Andrews Appraisal Service with my two sons in Franklin, Tennessee.

I am a published poet and am currently writing a book of small stepping stones that I have experienced over the past 76 years. Google me at William Franklin Andrews for additional poetry.

Frank Andrews purchased this house in 1996

Why Frank Andrews chose Charlotte

This 21 acres of paradise was purchased as a company retreat in 1996. The Refuge was constructed a couple years later. We needed a place approximately 1 hour from our home in Franklin and this spot was simply the very best available.

What makes this house unique

' A PATCH OF EARTH'

I want a patch of earth to call my own

Where birds can sing and children can run free;

A spot of ground with trees and sandy loam;

A place where Martha can grow old with me.

I want to live for me what time remains;

Unfettered by the many chains that bind;

Nor captive to economy's sad strain;

I must be free so I can speak my mind.

I've had my fill of chasing earthly dreams.

The will of man with all his evil schemes;

I'll rest a while on earth while here I stay

And trust my God and hope for better days

from 'Songs of a Native Son' 2005 chronic discount books.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My wife and I along with a couple from Iowa and Michigan met at 'Our Refuge' for a reunion. This was a time for us to get reacquainted as we had worked together since the late 90's.

The lake house was more than advertised. The owner kept in touch with me prior to our arrival providing much helpful information. It was to be a very cool night on our arrival and Frank had prepared the fireplace with wood and kindling with a welcome note that said, "Just light and enjoy".

The facilities for the 6 of us allowed us to have privacy while at the same time giving us plenty of room for our together time. It was cleaned and everything was in working order. The BEDS were comfortable, the kithcne was fully furnished and all things were neat, clean and in order.

We chose Nashville as our central meeting place with us coming from Florida, Iowa and Michigan. When we dicided to get together in Nashville, I gegan a search for just this typie of facility and i'm thankful that I found this place. We had planned several activities in Nashville and knew "our Refuge" was some distance fronm downtown but we were able to plan around that with our trips combining sightseeing with selecting our eating places. We had great times together during the trips back and forth as we all were able to utilize a single vehicle.

The guys had planned to play gold, but we were only able to get one round in. It was at a local course near Ashland City and wasn't the greatest of places to play. There were other courses not much further away that would have been better experiences.

Wonderful place for a family getaway and reunion!

  • 5 of 5

Our family looks forward to staying here each year. The property is very clean, and the owners have been a wonderful blessing to know and rent from. Definitely a place to rest and relax in the beauty of God's creation!

Owner's Response: I cannot remember if this is your 5th or 6th year. But you will always be welcome at our Refuge. Our personal friendship means an awful lot to us.

Home is Beautiful and Serene!

  • 4 of 5

The Refuge is exactly what it promises: a quiet, serene, beautiful house surrounded by nature. The house was fully equipped with everything you could possible need and more. It was clean and the grounds were very well kept. Kids and grandkids loved swimming off the dock, canoeing and fishing (no catching, but I fear the water was too warm with the 104 degree heat index that week). Sadly, nature intervened on our trip and we spent three days without electrical power due to a lightning strike. First day (Thursday) the power was out 6 am to 4 pm. It was a long, hot day at 101 degrees out. Threw out and quickly cooked a lot of food, but happily went back out next morning, got more at Walmart (about a 30 minute drive) and boom! - electric out again - main transformer this time from noon Friday until 4 pm Saturday. A neighbor came down with a generator so we had some lights, etc part of the time (No AC). Some of our relatives gave up and left early. Road was blocked by excavator digging trench for power lines and then they cut the water line by accident - so after no electric for 3 days - no laundry and short showers only allowed. I would love to return sometime when perhaps Murphy's Law ( "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".) doesn't rule the day. But - the first 3 days of the trip were perfect and we enjoyed our time there.

Owner's Response: Thank you for 4 stars -- we really did our best under the circumstances to make you as comfortable as possible; however those efforts did not come half way up to our usual 5 star standards. WE will welcome you back with three days of your next stay absolutely free. Sorry for the lightening strike on the power lines but we are grateful for a caring power company that responded as soon as possible.

The property is amazing.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was beyond what we thought. Property is on the water. The wildlife we saw, eagles, deer, otter family, owls, woodpeckers, just made the time spent there that much more. The house is fully furnished, with everything you might need and didn't think of. We will do this again.

Thank you Frank for the opportunity.

Great place to relax and get away from the crowd

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to sit on the back porch and enjoy nature and listen to the rain hitting the tin roof while rocking in one of the many rocking chairs, We have use VRBO properties for 7-8 years and this by far was the cleanest and best stocked of any properties we have stayed in. The kitchen had anything you would need to prepare a meal and the bathrooms had plenty of towels and wash clothes. It's a short drive to Nashville with the hustle and bustle of big city life but it was nice to be able to come back here for rest, relaxation and fishing. We saw animals and birds including owls and cranes along with other things in nature. Mr. Andrews is great to work with and everything went very smooth. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spend here.

This is truly a Refuge!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon before our daughters wedding a few miles away. This was the perfect place to relax and enjoy our family before the big day. The Refuge was so peaceful and welcoming. We were on the run all weekend but certainly enjoyed the outside swings with our morning coffee. The view was amazing! We hosted the bride's maids on Friday evening with plenty of room to spare! The girls loved all of the decor, history, games and comfy spots to curl up and relax at the Refuge. We cannot wait to come back again soon and not leave the premises! It is definitely an A+ in our books! Thank you Mr. Andrews for having us and the easy communication!
