Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

18 acres, 2 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms, cottage with over 2000' sq living space, and your own 400' of river frontage and personal swimming hole.

Late on a summer day you watched as the shaded green hues of evening drew their veil over the valley and the setting sun highlighted distant Celo Knob. You could hear the bullfrog call to the fireflies down by the pond where the old mare had, after a last long drink, headed for a barn far off. With the windows open you had to draw the covers up to your chin during the night. In the morning you wandered down to the rivers edge with your cup of coffee in hand. As you approached, the trout scattered. Puppy couldn't resist the temptation and got thoroughly wet. The mist on the river began to burn off as the sun climbed higher in the sky. No TV tonight, instead you'll have bonfire down by the river. In no hurry, you ambled back up the driveway past acres of summer blooms and lawn, thinking "I'm glad I don't have to mow". Instead, you spent the afternoon floating in an old inner-tube down the river all the way to Patience Park, someone was there to meet you and give you a ride home.

Just a few miles south of the cabin is the Mt Mitchell Golf Course, rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest, and voted #1 semi-private course in the region by the readers of the Asheville Citizen Times. Also right next to the Golf Course, than a half mile further away is the trail head into the Pisgah National forest, a trail that leads up to the Roaring Fork waterfall, one of the regions prettiest falls, and one of the easiest to hike to, only a half mile of old forest roadway. Mt Mitchell can be reached from the cabin by automobile in less than 15 minutes.

House with a view

This was a very relaxing vacation spent most of it in the hot tub or hiking on the trails.

Fantastic Cabin, great location, amazing mountain views

  • 5 of 5

10 days was not enough, I could have moved in. We had a fire in the fireplace from morning to night, and it was so peaceful. The pictures on the website do not quite do justice to how great the cabin is and how great the view is. We took advantage of several of the hikes which are all within an hours drive, went into Asheville a couple times (also an hour), and explored the little shops and restaurants around Spruce Pine. Could not have been happier with the trip!!

Beautiful house, relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Overlook for one week last summer and had such a good time that we decided to come back again this summer! The river area was so nice and relaxing, we even brought our own hammock to hang up in the trees. The pictures are very true to life (though I honestly thought the house looked even better in person). The property was very clean and nice, the grass was nicely cut, and the beds were soft and comfortable. There were even spare rolls of toilet paper under the sinks in the bathroom, which was great (you never want to run out of TP on vacation)! We felt very safe in the property.

In the interest of a fully honest review, there were only two things I disliked about the property. It had no air conditioning, and there were more spiders than this city dweller is comfortable with. The property does provide fans, both of the ceiling and portable variety, and they cooled the house nicely. The only time that it got a little too warm was around 2-ish in the afternoon, when the sun was at its hottest. That didn't bother us too much, though, since we were generally out at the river at that time anyways (and the river is so nice and cool, even in the summer). The spiders kinda freaked us out, so when we visit next we are going to bring some spider spray and hit all the dark corners before we move our luggage in. It *is* a cabin in the woods - I suppose spiders are to be expected.

I would definitely recommend this house to anyone. It has all the things a vacation home should have - nice views, soft beds, and a place to swim.

Golf View is a great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The "Golf View" home was without a doubt the nicest home we have rented at Mount Mitchell golf course and we have been renting there for the past 10 years. The home is not only beautifully decorated but has anything you may need for you stay, from the well equipped kitchen, linens, internet service and TVs in every room. The beds were extremely comfortable and the roll out windows allowed us to enjoy the mountain air the entire time. The outdoor space is great and can accomodate many people. We enjoyed our early morning and late evening walks on the golf course, also feeding the fish just below the house at the famous fish whole.
