Please send a brief bio of yourself and the people staying here with you before booking. A photo would be nice too.

A beautiful, warm and clean apartment nestled between the Hudson River on the west, historic Harlem, southeast, Sugar Hill, east, Washington Heights, north, and Columbia University, south, in our culturally diverse neighborhood of Hamilton Heights.

The apartment is located on one of the most beautiful blocks in NYC. It is on the street level which makes it easy for people with stair concerns. It is decorated with comfort and style in mind. The bedrooms are super quiet and have the most comfortable beds.

The apartment is a large 2 bedroom/2 bath duplex completely separate with its own private entrance and with access to the serene backyard garden. There are 2 queen beds, 1 full bed, and 2 twin beds, free WiFi, towels, sheets, pillows, iron and board, hairdryer, and bathrobes. One bathroom has a jacuzzi (listed as a hot tub because jacuzzi does not have a category). The bedrooms have an air conditioner and a TV for dvds. (Small library provided). Sorry, no TV service.

The kitchen is fully equipped with good knives, cutting board, pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, dishes, glasses, and silverware.

Right around the corner is our new favorite restaurant "Mama Sushi". The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants like Dinosaur BBQ, Covo, Harlem Public, Trufa, The Chipped Cup Cafe, Hamilton, and Unione, grocery stores (Fairway), drug stores (Rite Aid), Bikram Yoga (Hot), and shopping. The Riverbank State Park is just around the corner offering 2 swimming pools, a running track, a skating rink, restaurant, concerts, and more.

The 1 train is two blocks away, the A/C/B and D trains only five blocks away. The subway ride to Times Square is about 15 minutes. Street parking is available.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful stay in NYC!

Happy travels,

About Karen

Jazz and Classical Flutist who enjoys hosting travelers from all parts of the globe. Also, I am a vegan and an animal activist.

Karen purchased this townhome in 2007

Why Karen chose Hamilton Heights

I have always loved the famous brownstones of New York and have always wanted to live in famous Harlem. I got both with this home.

What makes this townhome unique

We renovated it in 2007 and tried to keep as many original details that were left since it was built in 1901. It was and is a labor of love. Many of our guests enjoy the original aspects of the home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful stay, the house is identical to the photos, it has everything we need (laundry, bathroom, slipper, bathrobe ...). We were greeted by the husband (very nice) and Karen pity we could not meet her.

Karen gave us food for the first breakfast, fruit, milk ... which is nice.

The neighborhood is very friendly and we quickly near the metro L1.

After each day we enjoyed the hot tub ....

If one day we have the opportunity to return to New York we will definitely stay in this accommodation.

By cons not to book shuttle because it does not take you to Harlem (147St) only to the 125 ST. We were able to negotiate with the driver with a few extra dollars to 21.00 because we did not want to venture into the subway with children, luggage and especially fatigue.

thank you Valerie

Great 2 bedroom 2 bath near subway, very clean and quiet

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the apartment. There 4 of us - my husband and me and two 17 yr old girls. They had downstairs bedroom with en suite bathroom. We were upstairs with hall bath. Our shower was great. Bedrooms are large. The apt is very clean and nicely furnished and very quiet. The pool is across Riverside in the state park. We didn't use the jacuzzi. Window AC units did fine. We were there for a heat wave and even being gone all day with AC off, the apt was not hot. Karen lives upstairs and was responsive to the few questions we had. Only thing we could have wanted was a microwave. Subway is 2 blocks away. Coffee shop, a grocery, restaurants, pharmacy, McDonald's nearby. Little farther north than we originally wanted but we had to have 2 baths. It was a good find and we recommend it.

A perfect place to experience all New York has to offer.

  • 5 of 5

2 stories of such New York character! Karen's Harlem gem is close to the subways, parks, shops, and has everything you might need for a quiet night in after exploring the city. The nights were quiet and the days held the potential energy of what we wanted to make of our stay. Karen was available by phone or email, and always respected our privacy.

Many thanks to our hosts!!

This Apartment - Above and Beyond Expectation

  • 5 of 5

We are just returning from our vacation in New York and staying at Karen's apartment in Harlem. She was helpful in answering questions that we had as this was our first visit to New York.

The apartment was just as expected and maybe even a bit better. It was clean and supplied with everything you would need to make our stay very enjoyable - extra towels, housecoats, coffee, food, spices for cooking - little extras to go the extra mile.

Being 2 families and having 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms made for some privacy and space for us. Bed and linens were clean and very comfortable - hotel quality.

We highly recommend this apartment if you are planning a stay in New York. It was a 2 minute walk to the Subway with a direct 20 minute ride into Manhattan. A great place to stay!

Great apartment

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed with the apartment in general. A couple of things that were not so great - internet is slow, location is good but I wouldn't feel safe walking back home after dark. Of course, that's probably true in most of NYC.

Overall I would recommend this place to a friend. More than enough space for us, 4 adults plus 2 kids.

Loved New York

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 couples staying at Karen's house this October. The house was very clean and there was plenty of room for us all. We loved the location and the vibrant neighborhood. Very close to the subway, which we took everywhere and also close to a park along the Hudson river. Norbert was very nice and helpful with places to eat and places to see. If we had any suggestions to make this house a little more user friendly it would be to have 2 (new) hair dryers, one upstairs and one down. A microwave would be very handy to heat up leftovers as the owners do not care for the smell of meat. Overall I would love to visit New York again and would highly recommend Karen's home to anyone. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
