Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This is our 5th Year of staying at Destination Relaxation and it is perfectly named. My entire family (children and grandchild) look forward to going to Abi's house as my little granddaughter Isabella calls it. She just loves everything about it especially fishing off the dock and playing on the grass and visiting the playground and ice cream store as she calls it. She loves the house down by the lakeside which she runs to if raindrops start to come because surely it is followed by the most beautiful rainbow. Her only experience with seeing them is at the lake house so it is a magical place for her. The home and its amenities are just perfect and the location is just wonderful for wine tasting and sightseeing. The countryside is so beautiful and rivals the wineries and beauty of Tuscany and just a short drive to this retreat. We love it! We are so comfortable staying there and hope to continue our splendid visits. The week goes by so quickly but we have next year to look forward to!!! We recommend this property highly! We wish you joy and serenity on your visit as well and hope you make as many happy memories as we have at Destination Relaxation!

Expect to clean their house during your vacation!

  • 1 of 5

We stayed with another family at this lakehouse. It was quite a bit smaller than expected and the "sleeping loft" that was advertised was off limits once we arrived. This created cramped sleeping arrangements for us but we made do.

My complaint is that $200 was withheld from my security deposit with the explanation of "excessive cleaning." We followed all the conditions listed in our contract and left the home in good, tidy condition. There was an additional binder with lists of cleaning activities in the lakehouse including STRIPPING THE BEDS, REMAKING THE BEDS WITH CLEAN SHEETS, and WASHING AND FOLDING AND REPLACING ALL THE TOWELS AND SHEETS WE USED. We started doing laundry the night before we left and washed and dried linen and towels until we had to leave by the 10am checkout. I left with a suitcase full of dirty clothes because I was washing all of their linens and towels. This is way above and beyond what I would expect to do on my vacation but I was trying to be respectful to their requests.

Their dryer is super slow and takes forever so I was only able to do 4 loads of laundry before we had to leave. So, I had to leave one load going in the dyer and an additional one set out for a cleaning crew (there is none, it's you). Everything else was clean, put away, and in the condition we found it in. I even took pictures of the house before we left. So, I'm guessing this was not good enough since I have yet to get a return call from the owners regarding the withheld monies. I'm assuming Abi just expects the guests to be her cleaning crew.

The actual area of town we stayed in was nice. Walking to the park and the ice cream shop was really fun. The beach area was VERY small and full of weeds and seaweed. The flowers and plants growing around the lakehouse and on the walk down to the beach were beautiful but SWARMING WITH BEES! My 3 year daughter got stung on her head :(!!

The home was clean and there was kitchen pots and pans like described. The toilet attached to the bedroom ran constantly and was disturbing for anyone sleeping in that bedroom.

Abi was nice before we rented and when we arrived but her tone changed on the day we left. I sent her a text message that we couldn't do all the laundry and we were checking out. She said they would be "down to inspect" later. Not the friendly goodbye I expected.

So, that was our experience.

Owner's Response: Bridget and I have spoken by phone and we have sent her a check for the amount withheld from the damage deposit. She has requested that this review be removed so that she may write another review. Our goal is for our guests to be 100% satisfied. We regret that their experience wasn't positive across the board. We don't charge an additional cleaning fee as many do and only one other time felt the need to withhold a portion of the security/damage deposit for damage/cleaning concerns. We are happy to connect with any prospective renters about our home at any point. We wish you all the very best in your search for your perfect vacation location.

Seneca Lake Cottage Rental

  • 5 of 5

We are from Rochester, NY and have rented this cottage several times.

We meet friends from PA for wine tasting and relaxing. The location of the cottage is perfect for all activities around the Finger Lakes.

The property is very well maintained and spotless. It includes four nice bedrooms and two full baths. Not to mention a great dock and water front.

We have always received great customer service from the owners. We will rent this cottage again, and would highly recommend this property to others.

A wedding and vacation combined

  • 5 of 5

Lakeside Retreat is the best location on the lake. Easy access to so many things we were able to visit lots of wineries, go to Corning Glass where we made our own glass ornaments, walked Watkins Glen beautiful captivating gorge (nature at its best, layered cliffs, waterfalls etc.), toured Belhurst Castle and much more.

Our main reason for going to Seneca Lake was to attend our grandson’s wedding. We decided to go for the week and include a vacation with friends. It was a little intimidating as to where to stay having never been to the area before.

What a pleasant surprise to find the home with everything possibly needed and more. Fully equipped kitchen and I mean fully equipped. We had steaks from the grill on outside patio area, breakfast in the kitchen nook, and other meals in the dining area. Bathrooms had extra supplies for anything left home.

We all enjoyed the many included water toys, kayaking, paddle boating water rafts etc. There were life jackets for us and extra water shoes. We took our own fishing gear, but I noticed that was also there.

Mimosa’s on the pier in cushioned lounge chairs for the sunrise, and roasting hotdogs around the fire ring watching the moon reflect off the lake.

The wedding and reception was beautiful and went well. We also had a great vacation.

Thank You Abi & Winton

Something for Everyone

  • 5 of 5

This lakeside retreat was even lovelier in person than in the pictures. Three generations of our family were able to enjoy a week together; grandparents, two 30-something couples, a toddler and a nine-year old. The eight of us had plenty of room, and it never felt crowded thanks to the spacious floor plan, the 4 bedrooms, and all of the different outdoor spaces- the dock, the beach, the boathouse, the shady bbq patio out back, the hilltop patio facing the lake. The owners were always available if we needed them, and gave us a local contact in case we needed immediate assistance, which of course we didn't, because the owners had already thought of everything! We love the outdoors, and were thrilled that we could bike or run to the Keuka trail, kayak right out back, and take day trips to nearby state parks. Robert Treman S.P. was a special treat- we jumped off a diving board and swam at the base of a gorgeous waterfall, on a well-guarded beach with a shady picnic area. We visited many wineries, our favorite was Shalestone (we love reds!), and we were able to kayak to Miles Winery and Brewery! The brewery trail was a treat, and we loved Rooster Fish Brewpub which was a 20-minute ride on 14 South to Watkins Glen. The area has so much to offer, but we would have been content to stay at the serene property all week, where we watched birds through the binoculars that were waiting for us by the picture window, did yoga on the serene dock at sunset or sunrise, cooked huge family meals (always plenty of extra place settings in this home!), toasted s'mores and told spooky stories by the campfire, and read in the lakeside hammock. We even brought an 8-person float and anchored it out back all week, so we could enjoy the refreshing and clear waters of Seneca Lake as a family.

This home has many unexpected necessities like trash bags, toilet paper, hand soap, dish and laundry detergent, cleaning supplies- every cabinet is full of all of the things you need to take excellent care of this home. All of the beds were comfortable, the pillows and linens were fresh and clean-smelling, and the gracious owners have provided all of the ingredients for a vacation that can be whatever you want it to be!

Our Lakehouse Vacation Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd year at this lovely home. The owner's have carefully and thoughtfully provided even the smallest items so you're vacation is carefree. The air conditioning is great, the hot water always perfect for those relaxing and refreshing showers, the location is wonderful both for wine tasting and sightseeing. The view of beautiful Seneca Lake is just magical as was the magnificent rainbow we experienced so even a little rain brought joy. My little granddaughter loved the fishing as well as the adults. We were 6 ranging from age 62 to 4 years old and this home had something for everyone. Games, movies, books, great television, boat lift, lakeside firepit for chatting and smore making. The boathouse so well equipt is just perfect. We just love it. I would recommend this home to anyone wanting peace, privacy, great nearby restaurants, great wineries. So many things to do and so little time to do them all makes you want to make this home away from home an annual treat! Enjoy!
