About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, 4 Sleeps

Beautiful Mid-Coast Maine

Located in South Thomaston

Escape the hot, sticky city to sit atop the picturesque St. Georges River in the backyard of this charming 2 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath cottage for a relaxing and blissful vacation. Strategically situated at the end of a private road the only thing between you and the water are a few tranquil steps. The tidal river recedes twice daily. At low tide, watch the local clammers sift through the muddy river bottom searching for a hearty dozen steamers for dinner. The large lawn overlooks the river and is a perfect place for a friendly game of Croquet, Frisbee, Bacci Ball or Badminton.

House sleeps four with two single beds and one full. But there is plenty of room for a few extra in sleeping bags.

Within 10 minutes of downtown Rockland and within 20 minutes of picturesque Port Clyde, Tenant's Harbor, Rockport and more. The sandy beach of Drift Inn beach is a short drive down the road.

An easy trip from the West Coast -- fly Jet Blue or Virgin America direct from LAX to Boston, rent a car and make the beautiful drive North approximately 3 1/2 hours. Or, fly into JFK for a short stop over, then on to Portland, Maine to rent a car and drive the 1 1/2 hours into town. There is a one car garage and plenty of room for more cars.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Gloria,

Thanks to you and your family for all the great info in the area. We have had a great time. We just got back from a sunset cruise on the Heron, definitely a highlight. The air bed worked great.

Thanks again for this being such an easy rental experience.

Peaceful weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

Gloria thank you for letting us stay at your home. When we arrived we where mesmerized by the lawn over looking the waterfront. The sunsets there where amazing!

The home had everything we needed. Grilled steak Friday night, ate outside while sipping wine watching the sunset. Saturday we picked up lobsters at Port Clyde dock. Delicious!

Thank you again for everything

Charming Family Waterfront Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Pros:

View! Lovely on the water. We grilled and ate out front, kids frolicking on the lawn.

Location - It's a nice (mostly) private little area with a lovely lawn. On. The. Water.

House. It's vintage. It has everything you need. Not small. Comfortable.

Breeze. My wife usually insists on Air Conditioning. There isn't any, but even during a humid heatwave, she slept comfortably.

Cons:

Age. It's a very well maintained older family vacation cottage. We loved it, but it may not be for everyone.

Damp. The tile floors are wet when it is humid (which means it's pretty cool inside!) and the lived-in furnishings (many are antique) have long-endured the coastal air.

Area. Although it is a private leafy getaway on the water, it's not surrounded by a secluded woodsy vacation area. It's at the end of recently developed road/neighborhood. Neighbors accessed the water while we were there.

On the whole the cons were not important to us. The pros were PHENOMENAL. We loved our stay, which was too short. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We spent the weekend on a roadtrip and were lucky enough to find this home. We stopped there with two kids and a dog and could not have been more comfortable. Everything is set up just right and anything you could possibly need to know is about the home and surrounding area is available and clearly marked. We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning again in the future. Thank you to Gloria for letting us use your beautiful home.
