About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 4 Sleeps

Welcome to our cabin at Maggie's Farm, We are close to all of the Western North Carolina attractions and it's a place you will want to return over and over again. You can completely relax and rejuvenate here. The cabin is very clean, fresh and updated. It has a large fully equipped eat in kitchen, both bedrooms have quality, comfortable queen sized beds with memory foam for a restful nights sleep. The back covered deck is a great place to hang out, relax, read a book, or try your fishing skills for native brown trout. The patio overlooks crystal clear Tucker Creek, (10 feet wide and 1-4 feet deep) and features a gas BBQ grill, with patio table & chairs. The cabin borders thousands of acres of the PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST with Trailheads and Forestry roads all around. The wildlife abounds. You may see turkey, deer, bear, Canadian geese, ducks, blue heron, Bald Eagles and more.

On Maggie's Farm we raise a small flock of sheep and have a pond stocked with Rainbow Trout. There are a large variety of fruit trees including Apple, Pear, and Peach. We also grow blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, walnut, asparagus, potatoes and many other vegetables and herbs. Across the street from Maggie's is a beautiful field of cows with the mountains as a background and a donkey named Smokey who loves to to be fed carrots.

There are many beautiful nearby waterfalls. Maggie's is Located in Balsam Grove, Transylvania County, which is also known as the 'LAND OF WATERFALLS.' There are over 200 waterfalls to enjoy HIKING, BIKING, and picnicing. Maggie's is at an elevation of 3000 feet and only 10 miles to the scenic BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, a beautiful drive to take to the Biltmore or Cherokee where Harrah"s casino is located. Parkway Road (Hwy 215) is likened to the tail of the dragon for mountain bikers and motorcyclists. Go FLY Fishing or tubing on nearby Davidson or French Broad Rivers. Maggie's is an easy drive with all good paved roads, I-95 to I-26 out of Asheville and you're almost there. Let the calming sound of the creek put you to sleep at night. Beautiful mountain views all around.

About Jaqueline Pray Hatch

Mark is from Southampton England and Jacquie is from Boston Massachusetts. We met in Central Florida working in our busy careers. Both of us workaholics decided that when we retired we would buy a farm in the mountains and grow our own food and live off the land. It has been the most peaceful rewarding 8 years of our lives. Because we are city folk, the local neighbors call us "Green Acres" Mark has earned a nick name "Oliver Douglas" and of course I would be "Lisa Douglas". We have 3 dogs, 2 German Shepherds and a Hound, 2 cats, and a flock of sheep.

Jaqueline Pray Hatch purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Jaqueline Pray Hatch chose North Carolina

We spent over a year looking for the perfect property for us. It had to have several things: a creek, high elevation, pasture and forest land, a beautiful town was a must (Brevard), close to activities and near a city (Asheville). This property had all we were looking for and it was on the market for only 72 hours. Living here is like a slice of heaven. There is 5 1/2 acres on Maggie's Farm and we border thousands of acres of Pisgah Forest on 2 sides of the property. We built our home across the creek and in the very back corner of the property. In case of emergency we are just down the road a bit.

Great place!

We loved staying there! We were able to get an early start on a hike to Shining Rock by staying there. My favorite thing was this: I was wading up the creek by the cabin in my water shoes and a deer jumped into the water right in front of me! Wonderful and generous hosts.

My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks at Maggie's Farm and really loved it! The cabin was very clean and comfortable. We have never stayed at a rental that was so well equipped! Mark & Jackie are wonderful hosts and are so very nice, we really enjoyed getting to know them, and consider them friends. The property is so peaceful. We will definitely be going back for a visit. Highly recommended!!

Can't wait to come back to the farm

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved the farm. Everything was clean and comfortable. Mark and Jacquie felt like forever friends. Our two boys loved playing in the creek and collecting blackberries. We enjoyed the fresh farm fruits and vegetables and our sheep friends, Crystal and Baba! The farm is located near beautiful waterfalls, hikes and national parks but still close enough to town to get the necessities! Looking forward to our next visit!

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin at Maggie's Farm is cute and very comfortable, with a beautiful location. We enjoyed meeting the extremely nice owners (and their dogs!), relaxing by the creek, and making a campfire under the stars. The cabin is close to several beautiful waterfalls and hikes off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and is a short drive to the town of Brevard. We had a great time and hope to come back again!

Family Place

  • 5 of 5

My little family stayed here and we loved the little cabin. The best part was my puppy had there two dogs to play with and a creek to get wet in so he was actually upset when we left. It was clean and we did not run in to any problems during our stay. Mark and Jaquie are some of the nicest people my husband and I have ever met. They were easy to talk to and we really loved the little spot.

Truly a nature lover's paradise. There are endless activities including: Horseback riding in the Pisgah Forest, Trout fishing, Hiking, Motorcyling through the Blue Ridge Pkwy, Mountain biking, Tubing & Whitewater rafting, visiting WATERFALLS, NC Trout Farm, Sliding Rock, Hunting for Bear, Deer, Wild Boar. The headwaters of the French Broad River is here as well. If you want to go to a casino,Cherokee NC is just a short drive on the Blue Ridge PKWY. The town of Brevard is where we shop. It is a quaint town with alot of charm. There is a genuine Soda Shop (Rocky's) that has been there since the 1940's. There is also a huge toy store (O.P. Taylor's) for the kids. Brevard is know for its solid white squirrels, if you're lucky you may see one. In September there is a huge apple festival in closeby Hendersonville and throughout Western North Carolina during apple harvest. The Biltmore Mansion and winery is a short drive and a beautiful way to spend a day.
