This is the fishermans delight. In addition to staying in the house with the prettiest sunset views on Pine Island, you are right across the street from the best spot on Pine Island to launch either kayaks or simply wade out for fishing. You are also walking distance from the Pineland marina. The home is also on the old Calusa Indian's canal right behind the Calusa Indian mounds, there is a state park established in the last 5 years that has a fun walking trail, there are several plackards that explain the history of the people that lived here 500 years ago. The nature walk wanders for about a half mile 50 yards behind the home. When you walk around the grounds you will feel that you went back in time. Again you are also in the house that sits front row to prettiest sunsets on Pine Island. The double kayak and old windsurfing rig come with the rental of the house, just a small additional deposit is required for use, this will be returned to you.
My grandfather built this house as a fishermans getaway from his North Carolina based business in a different era.
Richard Williams purchased this house in 1959
It is located on the ideal location of Pine Island, with water access a beautiful sunset view and walking distance from what was then a very remote Marina in which he was a part owner.
Since the Calusa trail has been constructed this house directly between this historic reservation and the water. Because this home was so well constructed it stood tall and strong under the wrath of Hurricane Charlie while most all of the newer homes didn't fair as well.
I have to take issue with the previous review. Some things were correct-the kayaks and bikes-But when I spoke with the owner when we rented he told me the condition of the equipment was questionable-so no issue for us there. The house was very clean and ready when we arrived and totally served our purposes. We were there to kayak (we rented-next time we bring our own) and relax and enjoy a very peaceful pace. That was what we found. We are scheduled to return next year and will spend a month-not a week in this home. The fishing is awesome. The pool table excellent.
Pine Island is old florida-no high rises and pretty laid back.
What would make me give it five stars-and hopefully next time I will-is simple:
Needs new mattresses. Other wise this place is awesome and I am so looking forward to 2015 and 31 days of kayak fishing!!!! And the sunsets were so stunning we were home most evenings for them-if we were not on the water!!
Local food is good and for the most part reasonable. I not only would reccomend it to friends I am encouraging some of them to visit us there next year.
The house was comfortable and adequate. Although it is an older home with older furnishing, it was comfortable. The owner advertises the prettiest sunset and he is right about that. The best thing about the property is the view. He also advertises 2 kayak which are broken and unusable. There are 2 bikes but when we went to use the bike tire pump, that was also unusable. The cleaning lady was still there when we arrived at the property at 3:30pm. She was very apologetic but said that this was the first time she had cleaned at this house and it was very dirty. She did a fine job and it was very clean when she left at 5:30pm, after working since 9am. The cost of the rent did not match the quality of the property. The owner was pleasant and accommodating. I would not recommend the property to our friends.
Great old home.Lots of amenities.Best view on island.Had great stay with husband.
Three family guys on fishing trip had plenty of room and enjoyed our stay. Don't expect fancy, as the house is old, but kept up and well equipped. Could have easily wade fished or yaked from in front of the house. Public pier a 100yds from the house offers perfect photo spot. Great water view. Rich, owner, was most cordial and helpful during the booking process.
Within walking distance of Pineisland Marina and Calusa Indian historical site. 5-6 minutes south of Four Winds Marina where we met our charter Captain each day. 10 minutes north of Red's Seafood House, a very popular spot with excellent grub.
My friends and I spent a weekend under the Gumbo-Limbo tree watching the wildlife and enjoying the cool breeze. The Tarpon Lodge was walking distance for a marvelous dinner of local seafood. We spent the afternoon in Matlacha visiting the shops and stopped for homemade ice cream at Great Licks. The Randall Research Center offered a lovely stroll with interesting information about the Calusa Indians. The house was exactly as described in the ad and the owner was so helpful. The house was neat and clean with a full kitchen complete with everything we needed. We would recommend this house to anyone who enjoys Florida living.
