Our family enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nice and clean, with all the family essentials from board games, to cooking utensils, to outdoor activites, etc. We will difinatley rent this cabin again.

Relaxation location

  • 5 of 5

From the moment that we reserved Iron Elk Lodge and throughout our stay, it was apparent just how important it was to the owners that we feel welcome and at home. The owners communicated quickly and patiently with our inquiries before arriving and the cabin was ready for our visit! We were a group of five adults and one dog----originally, we had planned to have 8 adults stay and, had they been able to come, there would have been sufficient space to gather as a group and space to have alone time as well. Recently, our family has tried to commit to traveling lightly so that arrival and departure are easy and stress-free. Iron Elk Lodge is advertised as being so ready for your visit that you can arrive with just your toothbrush. There is truth in advertising here! The kitchen is fully stocked and has all needed if one is interested in cooking. There is a grill outside as well for meal prep and nearby restaurants for those who would prefer a break from cooking. The beds in all four rooms are very comfortable and the bedding attractive. The bathrooms are modern, clean and the owners generously offer to share their towels, wash cloths, and shampoo if you happened to travel without. The outdoor space is as impressive as the indoor areas, for both people and the pets who are lucky enough to join in. It was very important to our family that our dog be able to join us when we enjoyed the beautiful weather and outside space. The back yard is fully secure and of very ample space for dogs. Our dog was also able to enjoy the very large front deck with us also. Seating on the deck was enough for a large group and, while our stay included nothing but sunny skies, the covered area would have allowed us to remain outside to enjoy any showers that might have occurred. Iron Elk Lodge is beautiful, comfortable, well-maintained and the kind of place that just encourages a sort of rejuvenation. We packed lightly to come and left feeling free of any weight. Thank you!

Lovely, large and lazy

  • 4 of 5

We rented Iron Elk Lodge because we needed 4 bedrooms for 4 women for a weekend retreat in the pines. It is located in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of streets to wander. We especially enjoyed chatting on the front porch during the afternoon thunderstorms. The kitchen was stocked with quality pots and pans and pretty much everything else you could think of. It is tastefully decorated and there is plenty of seating in the living room.

The only drawback for us was bedroom #4 in the basement area. There is a very musty odor and the sofa bed was unfit for an adult to sleep on. There were no instructions regarding "inflating" the bed, and when speaking to the owner, he remarked that people usually use that room for their kids and/or dogs. (Perhaps it should be noted in the description as suitable for only kids and pets)

In Bedroom #4, one lady suffered through the first night on the sofa bed, only to be exhausted from tossing and turning and ended up with a backache. Because I can sleep pretty much anywhere, I tried sleeping on the sofa bed the second night, but gave up around 1 in the morning to move to the futon. Of course, that was hard as a rock, uncomfortable and also unfit for an adult. The third and last night of our weekend, I ended up on the living room couch and finally got some sleep.

All in all, it is a lovely place as long as you don't consider the 4th bedroom adequate for any adults.

Owner's Response: Although we are happy that you enjoyed the cabin and its amenities, we are disappointed that you found the 4th bedroom unsuitable? We are VERY CLEAR in our property description on the VRBO Site about the number of beds and how many people that the cabin sleeps. WE ARE AVAILABLE TO OUR GUESTS AT ALL TIMES. IF YOU HAD CALLED US, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN HAPPY TO AID YOU IN FINDING THE AIR MATTRESS PUMP?? I can't imagine how uncomfortable it was to sleep on a deflated mattress?? In addition, we work very hard at keeping our place clean and that includes steam cleaning the carpeting quarterly. We plan on replacing the carpeting in the 4th bedroom over the coming weekend and apologize for the musty smell. We do appreciate your feedback so that we can handle issues as they arise.

great cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

Great place as advertised for my family of 5 and dog. Close to a small market and some restaurants if wanted.

Only minor complaints, the basement room smelled very musty and thin walls. Otherwise great place.

Very Comfortable. Loved the Deck!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at the Iron Elk Lodge. Especially the big deck and dog friendly back yard. The house was clean, beds comfortable and kitchen well stocked. We would definitely rent it again. The only thing we were missing was WiFi and a table where we could all sit together for meals. Overall a great vibe and very comfortable in an old-school way.
