Great Place on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. We liked that it was right on the beach. Plenty of room for the four of us. Appreciated having access to beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards. Privacy if we wanted, but could also socialize with the tenants of the other units if we wanted to. We were able to bring our dog with us, which was nice. We would definitely go back and would recommend this place to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Cathy and I especially welcome and love to share with our guests, that do not necessarily live in an area close to the ocean, all the beauty and peacefulness that we perhaps take for granted having lived always within seventeen miles or less of the ocean. It's definitely another world. We still have guests that continue to come back year after year to Surfside Retreat after thirteen, fifteen or twenty years. We hope that you will become one of those guests as well! Sally

Surf side retreat- unit B. We loved it

  • 5 of 5

The unit was very nice. Very private beach with few steps to get there. The only negative thing , that was beyond anyone's control, was we had to leave 2 nights early to evacuate from harms way of Hurricane Irma. Many prayers for all of Florida and of anyone in its path! God Bless

Owner's Response: I hate that anyone would have their wonderfully planned vacation interrupted by anything including Irma. I feel bad about it but totally out of our control and I did feel it necessary that we reimburse this guest one nights stay. I hope that they will consider returning in the future and had a safe trip home. Sally & Cathy

Owner's Response: It makes me so happy when our guests come back for stay after stay. That means to me that we are doing our job right! I think this was the third wedding on the beach right in front of our walkover. Just small beautiful weddings with ten people or less and congratulations to all. Sally

Great little place

  • 5 of 5

The accommodations are as described, but even nicer than anticipated. It looks better than the picture and parking is excellent. The kitchen is well stocked and the furniture is as you would furnish it for your own beach house rather than as if you were furnishing it for a rental beach house. The location is fantastic with an amazing beach view and access and with very easy access to St Augustine and even easier access to everything you need in Vilano Beach. The deck is great and functional. The walkway to the beach ideal. The beach itself is wide and walkable. The host is very considerate and accommodating. My only caution is if you are two couples looking to rent and split the cost, there is only one bathroom and the unit itself is on the small side. Great for a couple or a family with a couple of small children. Looking forward to staying here again.

Owner's Response: Our guests are some of the nicest people. I just love to go over and meet them but beware I am a talker and I really do not wish to take up any of your beach time. Although the unit is small it is cozy and most of your time is spent outdoors on the beach or in the historic district. This was our unit for our vacations for eleven years until we moved upstairs permanently for another eighteen years. We loved it!!

Good Time... Great Vacation Rental for 2

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation in St. Augustine this past September and staying in this beachfront rental made all the difference. Being able to walk right onto the beach from the rental was fantastic.

The rental itself was in great condition upon arrival. We had one small problem with an outside door handle that was handled within 24 hours of calling Sally. Although we weren't able to meet Sally face-to-face, she was very personable over the phone and was very concerned that our stay was as perfect as could be.

The sad part of this review is that, at the time of this review, hurricane Matthew is bearing down on the Florida coastline with St. Augustine in it's sight. We hope that Sally's property survives the storm as we would most definitely consider renting from her again.

Sally, you are in our prayers and please keep us informed after Matthew passes.

Owner's Response: Thank you and so many others for your concerns and prayers. We were so blessed because we were spared (so many were not). No damage to the building. Considerable damage to fence and walkover. We are on the mend and the dock (walkover) has already been replaced and half of the fence. Mathew visited us on Friday and I had a container sitting in the driveway on Monday because I had expected a lot of damage to the building. I called for the container Wed. before Mathew's visit on Friday. The waterline on the building was about one foot but only about an inch got into the building. We had the oceanside doors replaced (new seals) before the storm and also put up plywood at all oceanfront doors and windows. My husband had planted the century plants on the dunes and that stopped some of the storm surge, sand and debris. Thank you again and we hope that you will visit us again in the future and I shall get to meet you the next time. Sally

About Sally

Grew up in the Jacksonville, FL area, married my high school sweetheart, raised three sons, owned decorating business for 25 years and restaurant owners for 33 years. Six grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Purchased Unit B in 1984 for our vacation place, purchased other two units 1994, renovated the whole building and moved into the Unit C in 1995 and permanently lived there until 2010 and although still our main residence we moved inland to a one level home.

Sally purchased this apartment in 1994

Why Sally chose Saint Augustine

My husband and I had visited a friends home in Atlantic Beach and realized how much we would enjoy living at the beach so we started looking and found our little piece of heaven. We needed a place close to our business and home in the Jacksonville area that would not take us long to get to and be able to enjoy as our vacation spot and weekends away.

What makes this apartment unique

The views of the ocean: My husband enjoyed the roughness of the sea during a storm and I enjoyed the beautiful tropical color and calm of the ocean......the best of two worlds. So peaceful and relaxing
