Wonderful Neighborhood and Great Backyard
Located in a great neighborhood, just steps from General Store and the Beach. We were able to walk everyday to get coffee and see the sun set by the beach. We also LOVED the back deck, it feels very private and the weather was perfect while we visited so we loved being outside. Craig was super friendly and check-in was a breeze.
Location location location!!
What a little gem this cottage is. Located within walking distance of the beach, the General Store and some great eating establishments. The nights were cool so we were comfortable at night sleeping with the windows open. We played cards on the front porch every night. The back deck is also a great place to hang out and grill. Well equipped kitchen. This house was a perfect size for the 6 of us. The owner communicates very well. We will be back to rent this cottage! We loved it!
Home away from home
I think my son's parting comment before we left sums it up best. Of all the places we've rented (& we've rented a lot across the U.S.), THIS place seemed the most like you were staying in a "home".
Had everything we needed. GREAT washer & dryer, well-stocked kitchen, plenty of space, great back yard deck, and wonderful neighbors.
While there, the water pump went out. But Craig was quick to resolve the issue with as little interference to our stay as possible. And I was pleased to see how all the neighbors (some from several blocks away), showed up to help Craig get us water asap. It's obvious, he has a great rapport with the locals which benefited us during our stay.
The house is VERY close to the General Store, Mt. Pisgah, the beach, and more. Great location! The house is also close to Dune Dogz & Treats, Captain Sundae/Pirates Landing Mini Golf, Down the Hatch Party Store (GOOD, quick pizza & great supplies/souvenirs), and Deboer Bakkerij.
Although the house doesn't have air conditioning, it was not really an issue. We brought two small fans (for the upstairs bathroom & kitchen), Craig provided nice fans for each bedroom and the upstairs landing. We had one night when we went to bed and the house was a little warm, but kicked on the exhaust fan, opened all the windows (had NO issues opening them), and by the end of the night, we were cold.
Highly recommend this house and Craig!!!!
Very nice vacation spot!
We loved the location of the property. Super close to walk to the beach and several other places of interest. The house was well furnished and the screened in porch perfect to hang out in. We were able to bring our dog and take him on daily adventures too. One word of warning: there is no air conditioning. We visited during the hottest week of July and ended up leaving a day early because it was unbearable. Would have been a perfect week except for the relentless heat. Would visit again, but not in the month of July, unfortunately.
Ottawa Beach Location is Unbeatable
Ottawa Beach is a great location. That is a lot of what you are paying for. This unit is not deluxe, nor is it advertised as such. It is in all ways satisfactory, in a fantastic location, with a great local landlord, at a very fair price. If you want something luxurious or cutely decorated, look elsewhere and double your budget.
No A/C (landlord said maybe next year), but cross-ventilation is excellent, you will be comfortable at night if the high is <90. Kitchen is very serviceable, we cooked 6 nights out of 7. Nice patio in back.
Great Location, But....
We loved staying in Ottawa Beach. The location of the house was close to everything, including the General Store, beaches, fishing, other beach towns and awesome sunsets. We appreciated the privacy and the washer and dryer. The owner quickly responded to all of our questions.
However, the house could use updating. It was pretty hot when we were there and not having air conditioning was an issue for us. We opened every window possible in the house and still had trouble. Some windows did not open, some screens had holes, and some windows on the porch did not have screens at all. Overall, the interior could use updating, including the housewares, fans, and other essentials.
All windows in the cottage that were made to open, work just fine. Some of the cottage windows are stationary , never made to open. During the summer, some previous guest must have poked a hole into outside screen and covered it up with a tissue paper. All screens are now repaired . All screens located in the front porch have been replaced, giving the cottage back to the "craftsman style " again. All room fans are new. The interior of the cottage was updated as shown in the current photographs. The cottage description states " no air conditioning". The cottage does have an attic fan the cools the cottage very well. Perhaps the guest did not know how to turn on the switch. I will provide more details on how to operate the attic fan. This renter contacted me with a jammed garbage disposal. I repaired the garbage disposal problem the same day. The problem was that a guest dropped a pop bottle cap down the disposal. This owner has been renting premium cottages for over 27 years, with hundreds of very satisfied cottage renter
