House, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 12 Sleeps
In the early 1900's, Minden was a booming mining town. Every mining town had a Company Store where all the men who worked for the mine went to buy all necessities for their families using Scrip, coins imprinted with the company's name, with which the workers were paid. This house is where the Store Manager and his family resided. After the mining boom went bust, the house was sold. A couple of sales later, my grandparents were the proud owners. This house has been in our family since 1968. This is my tribute to my grandmother, whom we all fondly called "Mamaw." Mamaw's door was always open and that's the way it will stay. This is your perfect chance to get away from home and still feel "at home."

Great for big groups!
Mamaw's House is one of my favorite places to gather friends when we have adventures in the gorge area! There is enough room for several people, the porch is idyllic, and the house always reminds people of their grandma's house! I would definitely recommend this house to anyone that wants to be away from town and is looking for a peaceful getaway! Love it!
Awesome place to stay. We are repeat guests. Lots of room so all our friends can stay with us. The front porch is wonderful to hang out and spend quality time together.
Plenty of space to house a large group. The home is quant and charming with a convenient location if you are visiting the New River Gorge area. I stay here every time I visit and will continue to choose Mamaw's House for lodging.
Pictures were not exactly accurate
The pictures in the posting have been post-edited. The house is fine, but not clean and had a wasp problem in the chimney. We had to kill at least 8 wasps flying around the house and could see large amounts (>5) wasps flying in and out of a crack in the chimney.
The location is great, and the price is reasonable. There was only 1 shower in the house and 1 tub that was a bit rusted. Great amenities though.
Overall, it was ok. The wasp issue was pretty major, since it poses a pretty significant health and safety concern, and the place could you a serious cleaning.
Very Rundown Property
I was very disappointed in this property. I felt it was falsely represented in the website and pictures on line - clearly they were very old pictures. The house was portrayed as old when it was almost in condemned condition. The front porch floor felt like it was going to cave in when you walked on it and the furniture there was coming apart at the seams. The inside was in sorry condition as well with sagging floors, pealing wallpaper, lamps that either did not work at all or did not have bulbs, kitchen ceiling fan did not work, and there were no other fans in the house, and the oven in the kitchen did not work. The BIG issue was one small window a/c unit in the dining room for the entire first floor and no windows that could be opened (they were all painted shut and had no screens). the back porch was definitely dangerous to walk on. It took us 2 days to get the back door open (it was stuck shut so tight) and the front door had no way to lock it when you left. The second floor had just as many issues. The upstairs bathroom was new and quite nice, but the downstairs bathroom was in poor condition. There was only a tub with horrible rust stains on it and the sink. NO I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone else.
This is truly a beautiful quite place to stay in a small community away from all the tourist hustle and bustle or the New River area. I have stayed here on several occasions and will always return to this place. It is close to the New river gorge for climbing, rappelling and paddling.
The owner makes you feel right at home and made sure you have everything you need. Having grown up in the area, she is a wealth of information.
