Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin for 3 nights on July 4th week. My wife and I took our 10 year old grandson to give him an "Up North" experience. We all had a great time. The cabin was beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the kayakers float by while we nursed margaritas. We also did the 3 hour float from ShelHaven in inflatable kayaks. The serenity of the river was truly amazing. Our grandson couldn't get enough of the ping pong/pool table/darts game room. The beautiful setting allowed us to make special memories with our grandson and we will be forever grateful for that. I am sure that we will be returning again. Thank you to the Bloomquists for sharing the wonderful home with us.

Ladies Cross-country Ski Weekend

  • 4 of 5

Every year I plan a ladies cross-country ski weekend in Northern Michigan. This year I choose the Grayling area, and this house accommodated our group nicely. There are many ski trails within easy driving distance. The owners were great to work with and promptly replied to any email that was sent. It is a beautiful woodsy setting with the river right on the property. Their home was very clean and the kitchen had all of the dishes and cookware that we needed.

We did find the basement to be quite cold and determined the reason being that the thermostat in the living room registered heat put out by the fireplace we used in the evening. There were plenty of extra blankets, which we made use of. Lots of firewood is provided, but there was no kindling or available hatchet to chop some. Luckily, we had pizza boxes from our first nights dinner to get the fires started.

Because we had a large group, we had to bring the small round table and chairs from the kitchen into the dining room so we could all sit together. For the same reason, we moved chairs from the bedrooms into the living room.

All in all, we enjoyed our experience at Terry and Charlotte's lovely log cabin. You are going to find pros and cons in any place you stay, and the pros far outweighed the cons here.

Beautifully surrounded by pine trees.

  • 4 of 5

The environment outdoors was beautifully surrounded by pines. Loved the Sauna and outdoor firepit for our Winter weekend. Cabin knotty pine interior was really cool, and loved all the large windows. Nothing fancy with the furniture, and pillows, but there was enough for us 7 girls Couch was a bit uncomfortable, and could've used a couple recliners and updated TV. (Had a broken VCR, and problems with the CD/boombox.) Basement was pretty cold, and some upstairs rooms were chilly, so could use some better regulated heat for the cold weather, or space heaters if needed. Crock pot would be a good addition in the kitchen supplies, so we wouldn't have to bring one :)

The wraparound porch was great. Being on the Manistee River was the best. Missed a dishwasher and WiFi.
