Overview

About the property

3 bedroom house on 4 acres, sleeps 6, in the mountains, authentic and quiet

Alice's Acres is located on the Front Range only 1-1/2 hrs from DIA (Denver International Airport), 1 hr from Boulder and downtown Denver. It is in the midst of Roosevelt National Forest on 4 wooded acres (elevation 9,000 ft). The closest mountain town is funky Nederland, 20 minutes away where you can stock up on food in the supermarket and visit local stores and restaurants. At Alice's Acres you have the best of both worlds: easy access to cities and the peace of mountain living, whether you plan a romantic get-away or a family vacation.

On the first floor is a new kitchen, large master bedroom with new handmade aspen bed and organic mattress (king size), next to it is a full bathroom. The living room has a woodburning stove, TV, radio, lots of videos and a piano (try it but it hasn't been tuned lately), mud room and the half bathroom are adjacent. From the veranda one has a view of the high mountains. On the deck at the south side you can enjoy soaking in the sun, even in the winter.

Upstairs is a bedroom with 2 twin beds, lots of children's books and games, another large bedroom with a pullout couch and more books in English and German. This latter room is also used as an office and has 4 large sky lights.

There is much original artwork in the house.

Below this house is a little one-room cabin that has bunk beds in it. Children love it because it's away from the adults. However, it's close enough for the adults to see and hear what goes on. Only available during summer months.

About Christel Detsch

I am a native of Germany and came to Colorado in 1974 as an exchange student-a lifetime ago. I have been here ever since but I go back to Europe regularly to visit family and friends.

For many years Alice's Acres was our vacation home. Now the children are older, so am I, and we want to share our house with others who love the mountains, the peace and quiet. It is still furnished more like a cozy family retreat rather than a vacation rental. And we still use it as a family now with grandchildren who are learning to love the mountains as we do.

Christel Detsch purchased this house in 1985

Why Christel Detsch chose Black Hawk

There is a little cabin cabin below the house. We stumbled on it in 1977 and spontaneously decided to buy it. We had very little money, barely enough, and it wiped us out. However, we had our mountain retreat. Over the years we added more acres and built the larger home. That's how it started.

What makes this house unique

Of course, I love our house, but I also love the surroundings, the wind in the trees, the fresh air, and most of all the peace and quiet. To step outside in the morning, a cup of coffee in your hand-it is priceless. Our home is authentic Colorado.

Relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent New Years at Alice's Acres. The cabin was wonderful, relaxing and cozy. Great place to get away and relax but not far from activities. We went to Blackhawk to the casinos for New Years Eve and also to Golden to tour the Coors brewery. We will definitely return. The owners were wonderful and very helpful.
