Hi Michael and Richard,
Rick and I just wanted to email you and tell you what a wonderful time we had at Saint Nick! It was such a nice little bungalow and had everything we could have possibly needed, for the week! It is the perfect spot on the beach! We loved the nice deck and how close to the ocean it sits! We enjoyed walking on the beach and looking for seaglass. We found 19 pieces total! The family room was great and we loved keeping the window open and listening to the ocean. Thank you for your help with operating the t.v. We also enjoyed the picnic table outside and eating our take out from J. B.'s! The hottub was nice and the weather was perfect. We love windy, cloudy cool days at the beach and love walking on the beach in jeans and sweatshirts! Our friends laugh at us for liking weather like that at the beach! :) Thank you so much for sharing your sweet little beach house with us! We try to get away once a year and will definitely make Saint Nick at the top of our vacation list, in the future! If we could have won the lottery while we were there we would have stayed on for a couple of months!!! We wish you and your families and very nice Thanksgiving!!
"St. Nick's" is a treasure - an authentic, "old-school" beach house that is perfectly positioned on the best (quietest) section of Bethune (NSB). A stone's throw from world famous JB's Fish Camp to boot.
This house isn't large and it isn't modern - but if you have some imagination, you're staying in a pirate ship. My kids absolutely love it - we are happy, cozy, and carefree at St. Nick's. The owners are responsive and helpful if there are issues.
The very best part of this house is the back deck, which is NOT wood but rather a plastic-coated surface free of splinters and rot. We spend the most time right on that deck looking out at the beautiful ocean. It is also nice to catch a few whiting and clean them right on the deck area by the beach, with a sink with running water and a shower, then drop then straight in the grease. Yum.
We will be going to this beach house just as long as St. Kick and family keep it open!
To start off with the positive things about this home.. you can NOT beat the views! It was wonderful waking up and seeing and hearing the waves first thing in the ocean.. On the downside, it is HOT. There is no sleeping in after sunrise because the sun beams down directly onto the master bed with minimal shade, making it impossible to sleep in. Other than that the upstairs mater bedroom was nice.. The childrens/guest bedroom across the hall was MUCH cooler and shaded. A few mornings I woke up and went and laid in one of those beds just to sleep in an extra 30 minutes. The upstairs bathroom is also very small. Reminded me of an airplane bathroom. The stairs leading to the downstairs are also a little steep, and if you are over 6' you needs to watch your head. This goes for the downstairs bathroom also. It is also tiny and when I got out of the shower I had to bend down to avoid hitting my head. There is a nice downstairs bedroom that is used for storage that is very cool and has a nice bench area, which is great for luggage since space is limited in this home. The living room is a nice size. TV worked well, but the rug smelled slightly of urine. Walking out onto the deck is another story. BEAUTIFUL! We spent a lot of our time out there in the hot tub and up in the hammock. Jets worked great. It was so nice to sit there and listen to the ocean in the background catching lightning storms way off in the distance. The front yard is not very well kept, but I think it is the style the owners are going for, so it works. All of the overgrown plants made the front yard very muggy and there were tons of mosquitoes after the rain. Which I guess just comes along with Florida, but I do not remember that many mosquitoes last year when we came after a rain shower. The kitchen and washer and dryer was nice.. everything worked well. Be careful opening the door to the washer/dryer because it is broken and will fall over and hit you. Also the grills outside are a little outdated and were very dirty. Overall we were very pleased.. we did not stay inside the house that much because the ocean was fantastic and we spent a lot of the time on the deck.. so I give it overall 3 stars. If you are looking at family pictures, Joel with Jammin Swing Photography is GREAT! He came out to the house for our shoot and did a fabulous job.
We stayed for 1 month. As we entered the house there was a strong, strong urine odor coming from the living room, it was from the throw rug. After a couple of days we just rolled it up and placed it in the downstairs bedroom (this rug was beyond filthy and IMHO should be trashed). The downstairs bedroom was used as a storage room with a bed in it. This room had paint and other cans and items on the floor as well as a storage rack. Going up the stairs the hallway light was out (the next day I found a ladder and changed the bulb out). The upstairs bedroom facing the ocean has fantastic views. The bed was full size. The carpet was worn but seemed clean with no noticeable odor. The bathrooms were very small and dated; the first floor main bathroom didn’t have a light fixture, just light bulbs where the ceiling fixture should be. The living room had really worn, dirty couches (we did but sheets over them before we used them). The Kitchen was very basic and a throw back to the 70’s but it was functional. Other issues with this house included but not limited to the following: difficulty opening the back door to the deck even with the instructions. The windows in the kitchen, dining, hall, and front bedroom leaked with an average rainfall. When it was windy, the main upstairs bedroom is very noisy as the wind howls in the corner where the walls meet. Apparently this was known fact, as someone tried to use toilet paper to fill the gap, we also stuffed toilet paper in that wall which damped the sound a little but still difficult to sleep with the howling wind sound. There were several mice sticky boards. While it’s true we could have called the owners to report the issues, we didn’t. There were just too many issues and it was obvious that they already knew about them. We didn’t let the house hamper us in anyway and didn’t spend a lot of time there other than sleeping but it still would have been nice if the house was a little better maintained. Outside…...Most of the jets in the hot tub either didn’t work or were very weak even with both jets on high; the light in the tub didn’t work. We really like the area and will return next year for the same time again but not to this house. When we were there we looked at 3 houses for rent at the same location on the beach that allowed dogs and all three were significantly nicer, updated and larger. All three were also less expensive. We already reserved one for next year and are excited to go back.
St. Nicks's was a wonderful place to spend Christmas! This location and home was the perfect spot for 3 Christmas burn-outs to relax, chill, and watch that never-ending surf roll in. The beds were comfortable; Mercedes provided everything we needed in the kitchen; the living room was plenty roomy and had a perfect spot for our little Christmas tree; our TV and internet worked great; and we had great a time shopping on Canal Street in the old downtown area as well as in the shops on Flagler (and helped keep NSB 'green'----specifically "Sue Who?" and the Pink Flamingo at Petals!). My favorite place in the world is my cottage in Maine; St. Nick's reminded me of it------If you want fancy; rent a condo, take the elevators, and walk to the beach. If you want homey and comfortable with water merely steps away (with the ambiance of a place that you know some family really loves) it is this A-frame. We spent 5 days pinching ourselves that we got so lucky! Thank you, Mercedes, for helping make this happen!
We stayed at St. Nick on our first ever family vacation last year. We couldn't have been more pleased. After a long road trip, coming from frostier climes, this was the perfect landing place. The house was cozy. Kids all had space to be without feeling crowded. The addition of cable was lovely. We didn't watch much TV but it was nice to be able to take a sun break in the afternoon. The deck was nice and sunny and we all loved the hot tub. The beach was perfect! The kids were able to swim and go out in the water so far due to the sandbars. We went to the little fish restaurant on the river side a couple times. Food was excellent. We rented kayaks from there one day and took the kids out on the river for a couple hours. Didn't see any manatees but did come across a dolphin playing with a pelican in one of the coves. Can't get much better than that. The town isn't far away and they have some really fun shops there. We are so excited to come back again in 2016. This was truly the perfect getaway for a mellow family vacation. Who needs anything more than a quiet beach, a hot tub on the deck and the ability to cook most meals at "home"? The kids had a great time, the parents had a great time and I can honestly see us returning for years to come. Thanks so much for a great memory to add to our lives!
This beautiful A-Frame is the absolute best for a family vacation! It's a fisherman's dream with the ocean out the back door and the lagoon out the front door. Many meals were caught just yards away, cleaned down at the cleaning station, and cooked in the well equipped kitchen. One nice catch was a 5 lb. Redfish. When we were in the mood to go out, JB's FIsh Camp was just down the road. The food was fresh and delicious and there service was awesome. Renting Kayaks and Paddleboards to go see the manatees in the lagoon is a must! The Cape Canaveral National Seashore is steps away and simply amazing. The wildlife is abundant especially birds and butterflies galore! The A-Frame has wonderful sleeping accommodations, especially the master over looking the ocean. The most peaceful spot of this magical place is the hammock hung high enough to see the ocean, the lagoon, and at night, you are floating amoung the stars with the ocean rolling beneath you. HEAVEN!
