Happy 2017. I have the weeks of June 24 to July 1 and July 15 to 22 open. I am also open all of May and Most of June at off season rate of $1100/week.
My cottage is located on Window Harding’s Pond. It is 1.3 miles from Rt. 6 and 0.6 miles from First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod Bay.
The house was built in 1979; the interior was completed in 1992. The house style is Salt Box. The kitchen/dining/living room area (34 x 16) extends across the back of the house and is open to a wood beam cathedral ceiling. There are four bedrooms, two down and two up. The largest upstairs bedroom has a Queen Size bed. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a Queen Size bed. The other two bedrooms each have two twin size beds. There are two full bathrooms (tub with shower downstairs, shower upstairs). Also, there is an outside shower with hot and cold water.
There are full appliances: Washer and dryer on 1st floor, a Jenn Air stove with 4 burners and an oven, a Bosch dishwasher and garbage disposal. A 23 cubic foot Maytag refrigerator.
Trash pick-up is twice weekly, Wednesday and Saturday, to trash barrels located outside of the house. (In season)
The kitchen is well equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, blender and other normal appliances.
There are two decks, one on the back of the house overlooking the pond. This is equipped with a Weber charcoal grill and a Weber Gas Grill and a picnic table. The other deck is off the kitchen (main entrance to the house) and is very nice in the morning with the sun.
The house has GAS, forced hot water heat. There are three thermostats: 1st floor great room, 1st floor queen room, 2nd floor queen room.
There is a working fireplace in the living room area.
There is a HD color TV with Cable, and a DVD Player. A small stereo with CD player is provided. Internet Connection is provided.
The house is located on Widow Harding Pond (fresh water). The pond is about 10 acres in size. There is a dock in the pond and a 14' row boat for your use. Swimming is possible. There is a 10 foot beach area.
Fishing is possible in the pond. The pond has pickerel and largemouth bass in large numbers. Yellow perch, horn pout, sun fish and small mouth bass are present in smaller numbers. No license is required for up to 14 years old. Licenses (as of 2014) MA residents (15 to 17 years) are Free, (18 to 65) are $27.50, 65 to 70 are $16.25, 70+ and handicapped are free. Non-resident varies from $23.50 (3 day license) to $37.50. The licenses are available from the Town Clerk in the Town Hall, or from any of the local tackle stores.
There are four (4) Town of Eastham beaches where you can pay a daily fee. Those beaches are; First Encounter, Campground, Cooks Brook and Wiley Park. Upon entrance, you will pay the gate attendant $15.00 weekday parking fee and an $18.00 weekend parking fee and be issued a paper day pass. Your day pass is interchangeable amongst these four (4) beaches for that one-day it is issued. At a sticker only beach you must have either a Town of Eastham Taxpayer Beach Sticker or a Town of Eastham Visitor (One-week, Two-week or Seasonal) Beach Sticker to park. No day passes are sold or accepted at these beaches. Without a sticker, your vehicle will be subject to a $50.00 parking fine. Lifeguards are stationed at Wiley Park and Great Pond. Lifeguards are also stationed at the National Seashore beaches. First Encounter Beach, Wiley Park and Cooks Brook Beach have bath houses. All other Town-owned public beaches and ponds are equipped with portable toilets.
For a one or two week, or seasonal sticker the car's registration and a completed form with the fee must be presented at the Towns DPW building, 555 Old Orchard Road (Open until 4:00 PM. on Saturday).
Cape Cod Bay offers excellent swimming at high tide. First Encounter beach) is 0.6 miles down Samoset Road, only one of many town beaches on Cape Cod Bay. Many people like low tide at the Bay for the sand flats extend for about a mile. Makes for great exploring in the small pools of water that are left.
The National Seashore is on the East side of the Cape. I recommend a visit to the Salt Pond Visitor Center as they have many day and evening programs, walking and bike trial details as well as general information including off sight parking and shuttle buses to the Nauset Coast Guard and Light House beaches. (Directions to the Visitor Center: turn left from the house, left at Rt. 6. 1/2 mile on the right
Marconi beach, located in South Wellfleet (about 7 miles from the house), has a very large parking area with facilities for showering and changing. The Seashore operates independently from the town. Access to the Seashore is a daily fee of $15.00 or a season pass for any of the Cape Cod National Seashore Beaches for $45. Also general National Park Pass for $80. Bike trails have been installed in the old railroad right of way and now extend up Cape to Brewster and Harwich. The trail from Eastham to Provincetown is not continuous. Riding on Route 6 is necessary, although I believe new bike trails are being constructed with the desire of a continuous trail.
Hi, I am a retired Quality Engineer, worked for Polaroid most of my career. I live in Andover, MA with my wife Anne. I now am a Coast Guard licensed Charter Boat Captain and operate a 23 foot boat for commercial and charter fishing.
Peter Schwind purchased this house in 1978
I grew up in the house next to this property. My Dad gave me the land and I built this house in 1978. I designed and did all the wood construction. My kids left and we started to rent in 1992. I did major updates in 1992 and continue improvements each year.
This house is on Widow Harding's Pond and has a terrific view of the pond. It includes a dock and a row boat. Location is central, 0.6 miles to First Encounter Beach, close to the bike path and the Cape Cod National Seashore. With four bedrooms it sleeps 8 comfortably. The house is well equipped with all new appliances .
