Coffee on the Dock

  • 5 of 5

have stayed here multiple times over the past 8 years. Beautiful location, away from all the boat and jet-ski traffic of the South shore State Park. Morning coffee sitting on the patio attached to the the dock is the best. Simple, clean, comfortable lakeside cottage. If you are expecting something else, I recommend you go somewhere else, but you won't find better for the price. Anytime there has been any issue, a simple phone call has it fixed in a couple hours. Pictures show you exactly what you are renting. Generac Standby generator is reassuring.

The pictures of this rental property are definitely MISLEADING! I paid for 4 nights, in advance, and was completely dismayed upon arrival. The living room couch, loveseat and coffee table were filled with dog hair, in which I found a vacuum that had barely enough suction to begin to clean. Under the cushions of the loveseat were acorns, dirt and bugs. We had to put sheets as coverings just to sit on them. The first bedroom had a bed that was tipped down on one side due to it missing a wheel and was sitting in an open floor duct. Upon pulling the bed out to see this, there was so much filth and dirt I could not believe it. The dressers in the room had old dirty clothes n them that stunk. And the door could not be closed at night due to the stench. The second bedroom had a closet that had half of the door off and sitting in the closet. The so called "lofts" were so low, a child could not even stand up and were no bigger than the size of the mattresses (no box springs) just thrown on the floor, and was filthy as well. In addition, there were holes in the ceiling with visible insulation coming through. The refrigerator was off balance and would tip and tilt every time it was opened, and the door would slam into the counter behind if you did not hold it. There was a large open grate on the kitchen floor in front of the stove where you could see dirt and insulation, etc. The dining area table was so small, it could not hold more than 2 people with meals. The fire pit that is located in the front yard was filled with plastic bottles and other garbage we had to clean out. They have a lock box on the front door, but had a lock (added on) to the back door that did not latch, so we had absolutely no safety. So, if you don't mind paying for a filthy and unsafe rental, this is your best choice. Just to mention, after sending pictures of all this and requesting a refund, this property owner refused and took this listing down for awhile so I could not give my review.

Owner's Response: In responce to this review this person is a scammer. She tried to haggle about the price and waited till the last minute to book using a credit card and complained about fees. My wife could have rented to another person but said this person asked first. I told her this person sounded like a problem and sure enough was. Anyone who stays 4 nights and doesnt even contact us untill 2 days after leaving had no intention of paying in the first place. She imediately called he credit card company and disputed the charge which was removed from our account and on hold for 90 days. This person has obviously done this before. As far as the dirty couch it was purchased at Art van and deliverd one week prior to this persons stay and it was brand new. The grate in the floor is for plumbing access in the crawl space probably every cottage has one I know the neighbors do. The lofts are lofts with queen size mattresses my 6 ft 4 inch son a Marine always sleep there and loves it. The back door is an out swing door and has a inside deadbolt lock. The bed frame was not missing a wheel but I will admit some how the register got removed from the ducthole so the leg sliped into it. Move the bed frame 4 inches and you would be good to go.This cottage was built in the 40s and the floors arent perfectly level so the refrigerator door swings slowly if you let go who cares you are on vacation. It is to bad people that one person can mess things up for all the new people no credit cards will be taken. We have great renters that have been returning for years some have already stay 6 different times already this year and have dates for next year. And as far as the firepit people walk Sam O Set and I have seen them place debris in my firepit and am ok with it rather than throwing it on the ground or in the lake. If any one is looking for a 5 star resort on the lake this isnt for you just look at the pictures it is a CABIN no real frills other than a bueatiful view of higgins lake a lot of fun and normaly quiet. If concerned ask questions and we do have pepole who take care of problems if needed but it takes a phone call.
