Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 8 Sleeps
Just 20 miles from Fort Drum, Camp Wegatchie is located on the Oswegatchie River near Oxbow, NY. It's the perfect place to stay when visiting family or friends. The cabin provides a very private setting with panoramic water views from every room. There's excellent fishing for small mouth bass, bullhead, walleye and pike in the river and it's also prime habitat for the protected lake sturgeon which is making a comeback. We provide canoes and kayaks at no charge (security deposit required). There are many surrounding lakes which offer additional fishing or paddling opportunities. If you would like to bring your own boat, there's a place to keep it at the cabin. A variety of waterfowl, birds, deer, turkey and an occasional bald eagle are some of the wildlife you're likely to see. The updated cabin has an adequate master bedroom with a full size bed plus a second bedroom with two sets of bunk beds, including one double bed. The living room couch also pulls out to a double. The cabin comfortably accommodates 6 adults but can sleep 8 when using the sleeper couch. The Village of Oxbow is just 2 miles away for gas & convenience items. The Town of Gouverneur is 8 miles away for major groceries, shopping, dining, bowling, golf and hospital. The resort town of Alexandria Bay is 25 miles away and it's just 40 miles to Watertown and the big box stores.
Everyone loves the big rope swing that drops you off in the deep part of the river right out in front of the cabin. We back up to the Yellow Lake State Forest for hikes and exploration.
Great Cabin, Great Location, Great Fun
About the Owner
We've been coming to the area together for more than 35 years for get aways. The property was acquired by me and my friend in 2001. It's made it possible to share the same experiences we've had with our families and other friends. It took ten years of infrequent 'work weekends' to fix it up ourselves but it's all been a labor of love. We think it's pretty cool.

Great Cabin, Great Location, Great Fun
This is a very nicely equipped cabin in a very secluded area -- we spent the entire week and never saw anyone near the cabin. Kitchen is nicely equipped with plenty of cooking supplies. The river was fun for swimming and the rope swing was a blast. Nice fire pit. The property managers were friendly and helpful, and easy to deal with. Would definitely rent again.
My family with six kids stayed at Camp Wegatchie for three weeks due to some extended leave. Not only was the price reasonable, but the facility was clean, accommodating and entertaining. Most days we never even left the cabin, but stayed there while the kids swam in the river, jumped off the rope swing and fished. Never once did I hear "I'm bored" or "can we go somewhere" even though we were there three weeks. We caught a lot of feisty smallmouth in the Oswegatchie and some monster bass and great pike in very nearby rivers and lakes. The owner and his property manager were always available for questions and were helpful throughout our stay. We had several guests drop by while we were there and all of them were impressed as well. We hope we can be back soon...this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
This little vacation rental is amazing, I spent 10 days here with my family and would go back to rent it anytime. The place is spotless and even better than described in the listing. The river is perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. We caught huge cat fish, and a few nice sized bass. The cabin itself has everything you could ever want, the rooms are a generous size as is the living space and kitchen. It's far enough away from town that you feel secluded but close enough to drive if you need anything. The kitchen had every type of pot/pan and utensil! If you stay here I would definitely make use of the kayaks and canoe. I would rate this vacation up in my top 2, and the owner is very friendly. The ONLY downside is the mosquitoes, (bring extra bug spray). I know my kids and their cousins will remember this for a lifetime.
Great Place for a Guys getaway
Wonderful/awesome weekend getaway for my buddies low key bachelor party, and let me state low key. I think we even played team UNO on this trip :)
Weather was great two out of the three days, even on the rainy day there was enough room in the house for entertainment, which ranged from watching Top Gun on VHS to playing card games.
On the sunny warm days we enjoyed the rope swing, canoeing, kayaking, and playing yard games riverside, and really just enjoying some beers and beverages hanging out.
The greatest part about it - we didn't have to worry about upsetting the neighbors, because there weren't any. As stated before this was a low key bachelor party - but we had music going all day and late into the night while sitting fireside, and we could have never gotten away with that at a state park or lakeside rental.
This place was great all around - keep in mind this is a summer camp get away and if you are expecting that you will not be disappointed.
Kudo's to Bob the owner he was great from begging to end, and Kudo's the Paul and Laurie the property managers - Paul was a wonderful and happened to be there when we arrived and helped answer any questions we had.
Thanks again - Jason B.
My girlfriend and I stayed for a week and loved it. Canoeing the river was a blast. Spent a day in Alexandria Bay, only about a half hour away. Would highly recommend for couples.
