The Rice's

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at Mammy's Cabin. It is our second time at Mammy's and it will not be our last. The drive up to the cabin is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, drinking coffee, enjoying the beautiful view and cool breeze. It is so quiet and peaceful here. The cabin was very well equipped and we had everything we needed and then some. If you want a quiet, peaceful time away from it all, Mammy's is your place!!

Cabin needs some work

  • 2 of 5

Just finished staying here. Views are great, and the cabin feel is nice, but the cabin itself needs some work.

From the time we got there to when the previous renters were in the cabin was about 2 months. In that time frame, there were several cobwebs, spider webs, dead spiders, dead bugs that had accumulated in the place, either underneath chairs in the dining room, in the bathtub, or other places in the cabin. Given, it's a cabin, but at least would have expected some of these to be cleaned up. The kitchen sink then provided us with a leak that was due to the kitchen sprayer not functioning properly, thereby leaking under the cabinet and onto the floor. The backdoor takes all your strength, and then some, to get it either opened or closed, meaning either the door bottom or door frame bottom needs to be sanded down. The trash from the previous rentals was also not taken out as it should have been, which would indicate that someone hadn't been there to do that previously, so we just took our trash out and down the mountain. The bathtub also does not drain properly, allowing 2 inches of water in the tub when you shower. The drive up and down the mountain as well should be explained that it will take you 20 minutes one way, so be careful in the dark.

Overall, we dealt with the issues, but to be honest, expected a little bit more from this than what we got as we have rented several times in this area previously.

Fantastic mountain cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Mammy's Cabin was a great vacation spot! The cabin was exactly as described with everything needed for a relaxing fun-filled week. The cabin was very clean and plenty of firewood was provided to make fires in the stone fireplace. Linda and Charlie (owners) were very helpful and called mid-week to make sure everything was going well. The views from both sides (front and back) are breathtaking and won't soon be forgotten. Be sure to enjoy the view of sunrise over the mountains while sitting in the hot tub...nothing compares to that! There's plenty of hiking trails nearby and the cabin is mid-way between Highlands and Franklin, NC for sightseeing and shopping. I'm already looking forward to my next stay!

Owner's Response: Mammy's is not your typical mountain cabin. It is very private with plenty of walking trails. If one enjoys complete privacy and quietness then Mammy's is perfect. I believe this guest found Mammy's to be just what he was looking for. We will be so delighted to have him and his little dog return. Also, he was so kind to leave the cabin is a very clean condition. We alway appreciate guests like this one. Come back soon, Mike. We will re-open about mid-March, when Spring arrives.

very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This trip was our first time to the area and we loved it.

We were looking for a quiet place to spend some family time and we found it! The cabin sits atop a mountain ridge line and we were treated to the city lights of Franklin below and the beautiful night sky above.

There is everything you need at Mammy's Cabin. We picked up our groceries at the new Bi-Lo just off 28/64 before going up to the cabin. I was happy to see a few basics waiting for us in the cabinets as well like coffee filters, spices and a few necessities I had forgotten to purchase. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment.

The cabin is cozy but not small. We enjoyed having the satellite, dvd and the Internet available to us. It did rain one day so we opted to pile up and enjoy some movies and a roaring fire. There was plenty of firewood available. We were up in a cloud, literally.

I never made it up to the loft but my daughter loved it up there. Perfect for her to get away. The main floor bedroom was very comfortable. They have thought of everything, provided plenty of towels and even a couple of robes for the hot tub.

The view off the back deck is amazing. Soaking in the tub after a day spent touring the area's water falls and Franklin was a real luxury.

The cabin is rustic, but wonderful. If you are looking to spend some time in a REAL cabin in the woods, this is the place. It's well loved and well looked after. Linda is very accommodating and really cares for her place and her guests. We will definitely return. BTW, our dog loved it too! She sat on the back deck and watched the world go by for quite a while. We all felt welcome and didn't want to leave.

Owner's Response: As owner of Mammy's Cabin, we do appreciate our guests reviews. Mammy's remains a very wonderful place for a family vacation. The surrounding area of Franklin, NC seems to offer something for everyone. Our canine and feline guests also find Mammy's a perfect place for relaxing. If you are wanting a different kind of vacation away from the crowd and a peaceful place of quiet, this is it. We are now accepting reservations for November & December of 2014 as well as Spring/Summer 2015. Mammy will be waiting to hear from you soon. Thank you, Linda (Mammy)

Close to Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this sweet little cabin for 5 days. I didn't want to leave. This rental place was surreal. I forgotten how wonderful it was to have silence and a sense of peace. When you walk up to this cabin the view is just breath taking. It overlooks mountains from every angle. Then when you walk in the front door you feel like you have just walked into a "home" from the past. It is very quaintly decorated and everything is 'real'. It is very clean and warm. The fireplace warms up the whole home and if you are still cold there are heaters to help. The kitchen has everything you need and then some! The bathroom is a standard tub/shower and has enough room to move in. Not like other cabins that I have stayed at. The beds are great to sleep on. The back porch is wonderful. Part of it is covered and the other not. Sitting under the covered part in the early am hours was great. I was able to watch the birds feed at the feeder. There is a very nice gas grill for grilling and a heater hot tub at 102 degrees just waiting to be used. I personally loved crawling up on the sofa with a fire in the fireplace and napping! Mammy (Mrs. Linda) couldn't have been nicer. She is a spitfire and I sure hope to be like her when I am her age. She made you feel right at home. The history of the cabin is incredible and so was the restoration work that was put into this cabin to restore it. Not to mention that this little cabin is pet friendly and my dogs loved it. They loved the walks up and down the road and the porches on the cabin. If you are looking for a cabin that feels like "home" and brings a smile to your face and warms your heart...This is your cabin. Now with that being said...please don't schedule your renting time when I schedule mine! :)

Owner's Response: We strive to keep our little cabin clean, warm and friendly. It is true that children and pets really enjoy Mammy's Cabin. There is much to do in the area, but many of our guests just like to relax in the peaceful atmosphere of Mammy's. Most of our guests return time after time. See you at Mammy's!
