The view was really nice but the hot tub didn't work at all. Stayed 7 nights. Roads are scary
Property is nice and atmosphere is relaxing. Just missed out on having the hot tub.
Mammys cabin a slice of Heaven
I am so sad that we had to leave today. We have rented in Franklin before but we will never look any further than this little piece of Heaven from now on, we are already thinking of our next trip. The road up is not bad after you make the first trip up. The cabin is adorable, clean, comfortable, peaceful, literally a piece of Heaven. The beds are comfortable and they have everything you need but the food. It is close enough to town but far enough out that you don’t hear anything but nature. The flying squirrels that come out to Blythe bird feeder about 9:30 when it gets dark are adorable. We loved it so much at the cabin that we only rent I to town one day we just relaxed at the cabin the other 2 days. Veronica I want to thank you for sharing your place with us we will be repeat renters that’s for sure.

Mammy's cabin was incredible. The smell of wood, fireplace, and mountain air was nice to walk into. It offered plenty of sleep space for our family of five. The views were amazing with the back porch facing East for great sunrises and the front porch facing West for colorful sunsets. Our boys loved romping through the woods and sitting in the hot tub. There is no AC which was not a problem with the ventilation fan at the top of the stairs. It did get chilly on our last couple of days, but a fire took care of that--there's also a gas heater in the dining area. I wish there had been a little more kindling, but we did fine for a couple of days.
The drive up to the cabin is intimidating at first, at least for us. However, once I figured out the places to "gun it" we had no problems. A 4 X 4 would be a big help, but like I said, once I got it figured out, no issue.
We were looking for a place to hide away and this fit the desire most perfectly. If you are looking for somewhere with lots of exciting things to do, don't look here--this is a place for relaxing and enjoying nature. The Brown's offer many dishes and cookware that we took advantage of. I wish the grill had been a little larger, but it just takes a little more time to cook for a family of five, and I had nothing else to do, so...
When we first arrived, we had a little issue with the hot tub, but Mr. Charles was quick to get that fixed for us and we spent the rest of the week with a relaxing hot tub.
We never saw any bears, but we did see up to three flying squirrels at night on the back porch. They are amazing creatures and our children had a blast watching them run up and down, back and forth and glide to the trees just beyond reach of the porch.
If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, we would recommend Mammy's.
Wonderful stay at Mammy's Cabin.
My wife and I stayed at Mammy’s with our Bulldog and had the most wonderful time. You are right on the ridge of Higdon mountain and can see both valleys from each side of the cabin. The deck is perfect for watching the sun rise in the morning with coffee, while you can watch the sunset from the front porch with a beverage. The cabin is well appointed with cookware and other amenities. But the big thing is the peace and quiet that’s only broken by songbirds, the creek below and the wind whipping around the peaks.
We will definitely be booking a return visit and letting our friends know about this gem.
We just returned from our stay. It was an awesome cabin! The views were fantastic and all of the amenities such as firewood, movies, books and even bird foods were included. The owners are easy to work with and worked hard to make the stay amazing.
Perfect place to completely get away if you want an authentic cabin experience
As others have said the drive up the mountain is tough a long portion is very narrow gravel . We went up several times without any issues , i have a 4 wheel drive but never had to engage it . Its high , private and very peaceful
Hiking is wonderful. Just walk out front door and take a hike. Franklin is the gem capital of the USA. Many Gem Mines in the area. Abundant in sapphires and rubies. Rafting and tubing are the big sports. Many beautiful good whitewater rivers for these activities. Franklin has a wonderful entertainment theatre with live plays and entertainment. Downtown Franklin on Saturday night, take a folding chair (at the cabin) and go downtown to the square (gazebo) and enjoy some good free entertainment. Lot of fun places to shop. Children enjoy the Fun Factory and the Franklin Bowling Alley. Need to check your e-mail? We have wifi internet. Antiquing is very good in the area. There are many good restaurants in the area. One of my favorites is Cafe REL. Looking to kick back there is the Lazy Hiker Brewing Company on Main Street. Take a day trip to Asheville and visit the Biltmore Estate and outlet mall, Cherokee to visit the Indians and/or Harrah's Casino, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood. Many large beautiful waterfalls in the area. Visit Highlands (only 25 miles from Mammy's) and enjoy the scenic drive. On the way to Highlands, stop at Dry Falls and walk right under the waterfall. It is a great spot for beautiful pictures. There are also two 19 hole golf courses in Franklin. A short drive from Mammy's cabin is the grocery store Bi-Lo, and Walmart. This can be the most fun and the most economical vacation you could possibly have.
