* Beautiful New England style salt box cottage located on Magician Lake in Sister Lakes, Michigan. The property is located at the mouth of Polk Channel, a mile-long waterway excavated in the 1950's, running from Magician Lake through Viewpoint Beach...surrounded by pines and hardwoods that have been growing for a century or more. The cottage is perfect for a family vacation, or couples trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A great week-end get-a-way for a large group...sleeps 12. Pitch your tent! Fish off the dock. Swim and boat at our lakefront lot nearby. Rent a boat on-sight and dock it at your cottage. Fire pit and BB-Q.
Experience a real American summer!
The Polk family has owned this piece of paradise since 1910. Grandfather Polk began Viewpoint Beach Resort in 1911 with the construction of "Cottage # 1," still in use. Following generations have maintained and improved the properties over the years; Magician Lake is a large, pristine lake with a full range of watersports and activities.
Join us to experience a "Real American Summer!"
Cynthia Muller purchased this house in 1910
This property is located in a secluded area with a large yard for recreation and get-togethers. Plenty of parking.
Unique benefits of this property, and the two nearby rentals (Turtle Cove and Herons Nest) offer a quiet get-away where one can rest or entertain guests in a secluded space. The yard is large with an extended boat dock on Polk Channel. The channel provides access to Magician Lake at both ends of the mile-long waterway, which is scenic, serene, surrounded by forest and is accessible by boats of all kinds.
Parking on the grounds is ample. Growing up on this beautiful, untouched piece of Nature was an unforgettable experience. Visitors can ride bikes, walk in the woods, swim, float on the lake with a cooling beverage and listen to the night creatures "sing" at night.
Cynthia was very accommodating to our large group of 12, we'd love to stay with her here again in the future.
The area is wonderfully quiet and private. The house is rustic, has most of what you need for a quiet getaway with up to 10-12 people, comfortably. With four different sleeping areas, it wasn't a problem finding space for all 12 family members to sleep. Beds were clean and cozy, adults even shared the bunk beds. The house overall was adequately clean, including the bathroom and kitchen. Cynthia provides most necessities (including pots, pans, silverware & dishes) aside from paper goods & linens. Guest tip - bring a bathroom rug.
The screened-in porch was a nice touch for us when we experienced a stormy night, while the fire-pit was pre-stocked with wood for us to enjoy every other night (it was easy to order additional wood if needed). The creek that the house is on is great for fishing, we pulled up large mouth bass, blue gill, catfish, and other things. The water at both the creek and the Lake was warm, but a little murky with vegetation.
Owner recommendations: the WIFI really wasn't great, you may want to check on that. You also may want to invest in a more inviting guest swimming area, as the current lake beach access isn't as desirable as we had hoped. The pier there is small and covered in goose feces. The picnic tables could be cleaned once in a while to remove spider webs, etc. Also - perhaps drag/rake more regularly the swimming area to remove vegetation. The fix person floatie anchored in the water there was a nice bonus.
The only reason I gave this rental two stars is because the owner seems nice. The place itself is one of the worst places I have ever stayed in. It is old, dirty, and has almost NO amenities. We had to bring our own sheets and towels, but the bathroom was so disgusting that we couldn't bring ourselves to use the shower. The kitchen didn't even have dish soap or any towels or rags. We didn't use any pans or plates seeing that there was nothing to clean them with and this property asks you completely clean up after yourself. I have a physical handicap and could not get upstairs to where the bedrooms were. There was an oddly built staircase that narrows as it goes up and had no hand rail at the top. The rental is void of all decor and personality. The door you walk in hits a light fixture on the ceiling. There were other strange layout issues, but I think I have listed enough. I can hardly believe how much we paid to stay here...we would've been better off at a cheap hotel.
Nice place for older kids 12 years and up and adults. Could use a few upgrades and needs a few things fixed but overall we had a blast. My younger would have liked a playground area and more of a beach area for swimming and playing.
We had a wonderful stay with 7 of us at Frog Hollow on Magician Lake. The house was very comfortable and relaxing and there were lots of wonderful accessories like a fire pit and a screened-in porch. The beds were very comfortable and the house was clean. The house was actually located on the canal not the lake, but only a few hundred feet from the lake. I enjoyed having the house on the canal because it was much quieter and more private. One point of consideration though - there were no doors on the two bedrooms which was fine for our group, but may be of concern to a different group renting the house. Overall a wonderful experience, Cynthia was very nice, welcoming, and accommodating. I would highly recommend the space.
I rented this property in July, 2012 as a getaway for myself and 10 friends in our late 20's and it was the perfect place! This was the first time I had ever rented a property for a vacation and it was a wonderful experience. Cynthia the owner was amazing from the beginning. The first time i emailed her with questions she responded within an hour and communicating with her was great throughout the entire process
We spent most of our time outside around the fire pit and on the beautiful lake. This property is very secluded which makes it an incredibly relaxing and peaceful place. There was enough room for everyone and we all had a great time! No one wanted to leave. The property has a dock and we were able to dock our boat overnight, which was wonderful. While we were there Cynthia was staying across the street and would drop off firewood every night and helped with anything elsewhere needed. She was wonderful.
We had such a fantastic time that we have already booked our trip for summer 2013 and can't wait to go back! My friends and I have such fantastic memories from our trip last summer and we are so excited to make more at Frog Hollow this summer!
My bride and I hosted our wedding on Cynthia's three properties (turtle cove, frog hollow, heron's nest)...we had a bunch of friends and relatives come stay in the cottages for several days before the big day, and then had a big outdoor thing with many more guests the day of. Plenty of space...
And it's beautiful: quiet and peaceful, wonderful lake my little niece and nephew loved going out on, nice open lawn for the reception, beautiful tree covered area right in front of the lake where we said our vows, barbecue pits right in the backyard by a canal so you could dock your boat right next to them, the cabins had everything you might need with a grocery store and restaurants just a few minutes drive down the road...
Plenty of space for a big party if you go in for all three looking to throw a wedding, but if you rent just one of the three, plenty of space for a quiet getaway from the city with just the family, and everything you might need...
Cynthia was incredibly helpful whenever we had a need, which as you can imagine was often when prepping a wedding...She's kind and caring and responsive and unobtrusive...really, what more can you ask for?
I've never done this kind of rental before, and neither had my wife, but if you're looking for a peaceful beautiful midwestern spot to take a break or throw a big outdoor party, we can't imagine a better site or a better owner. We'll be going back some anniversary soon, you should too...
