Walk to the Beach - 4BD/3BA centrally- air-conditioned private home in Waters End, a gated community near South Carlsbad State Beach -- and close to everything else!
Our 4BD beach home is an excellent choice for longer vacations and executive relocations. Our home is located in Waters End, a gated community in Carlsbad, CA near the beach. The community is west of I-5, reachable from the Poinsettia Lane exit. The Poinsettia Coaster Train Station is a 5 minute walk from our house -- a side gate from the community leads directly to the parking lot. The Coaster gets you to downtown San Diego in minutes, and connects with Amtrak. We are also ten minutes from Palomar Airport with direct service to LAX and plenty of space for private planes.
South Carlsbad beach is a short walk, and our community has very large pool and spa. The pool, spa, and playground are about 6 houses down the street from our house -- but you can't hear any pool noise from our house. There is a very good shopping center across Poinsettia Lane about a block down Encinas Avenue, with a large Ralph's, Starbucks, Ames Hardware, Rite Aide, and numerous restaurants and small specialty markets and shops. All of this is a short walk.
Description of the House
The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. One bedroom and full bath is on the first floor and three bedrooms and two full baths are on the second floor. The house is centrally air-conditioned. All bedrooms have cross-ventilation (the MB has windows on all four sides), and all bedrooms have new ceiling fans. The master suite has a king bed, huge walk-in closet, and bath with both shower stall and soaking tub and double sinks. The master suite also has a sitting area with a comfortable couch and chair and 32 inch flat-screen TV. A balcony looks over the back patio and has a nice bench and comfortable cushions.
The second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed. The third bedroom upstairs has two twin beds and a Pac 'n' Play portable crib. The hall bathroom has a tub and shower. Also upstairs is a laundry room with a high-efficiency washer and dryer. There is also a small office upstairs in the hall alcove (see pictures). The house is immaculate -- see reviews on this site from past guests. As one reviewer wrote, 'This rental property has given us our best rental experience. As I told the owner, this home is so well appointed, clean and comfortable that we were surprised that it would be rented out to the public. Everything in the home is in perfect condition, including the kitchen with all of the dishes, cooking supplies, etc.'
On the first floor, the bedroom has a desk and can be used as an office. It also has a queen bed that is very high-tech. It is a Frontgate bed that comes out of the closet, and when you plug it in, it unfolds to a complete queen bed on a platform -- it's incredibly comfortable, and nothing like a traditional 'rollaway'. There is a full bath with shower next to the first floor bedroom. Even the bathrooms in our house have granite counter-tops.
As you can see from the pictures, the kitchen is ultra modern with stainless steel appliances, granite counter-tops, and is fully equipped. The fireplace in the living room is only decorative until we find and install a gas burner and glass doors -- the previous owners never got around to that.
The living room has a new 55' flat screen TV, blu-ray DVD player, couches and two comfortable chairs.
There is a two car garage, and outside the kitchen in the play area is a built-in gas barbecue with built-in gas line -- so no canisters to worry about.
No cats, dogs or other pets please. We do not rent to weddings, parties, reunions, or anyone else who might disturb this family- and kid-friendly neighborhood. Our homeowner's association assesses severe fines for any disturbances -- we would pass along any such fines to renters if that occurred, although we expect that it will not.
Why did we buy this house?
We bought this house and furnished it in June and July of 2011 because we could not find a suitable rental in the San Diego area that a short walk to the beach. We found that the beach rentals we experienced in this area left a lot to be desired and were over-priced. So, we created the ideal beach vacation house for ourselves and our family, and for you and your family. We have a local property manager who is available to tenants if anything goes wrong -- although the house is so perfect and well-maintained that we can't imagine that happening. We also have a housekeeper who provides cleaning services. Check out the pictures below -- it truly is a fabulous home.

Feels like Home! Great Place for families!
What an amazing place to call "home" while on vacation, or for us, while during a relocation to a new state. Such a hectic time for my family and we were looking for somewhere that would feel like home with all the comforts and amenities of the one we just sold. The Janis' home provided all that and much more! So beautifully decorated, clean, and wonderfully comfortable! No expense spared on amenities, from a fully stocked kitchen, outdoor dining, grill, bedrooms, linens, office, laundry, beach towels, etc. I didn't feel like a rental, but a home away from home. Because it was so comfortable for our family, my kids were able to finish out school, study for finals and feel like we had never moved! And what a great place for family fun! The community pool and playground were fantastic! My kids even made some new friends in the neighborhood! We loved walking to the beach and we had quick access groceries, gas and some great restaurants are just down the street. I can't say enough about what a welcoming, family friendly place the Janis' have and what wonderful people they are. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was exceptional. When we come back to visit San Diego, we will always look to stay here!
Great summer beach place
We have been visiting the San Diego area for over 40 years. We spent all of June at this rental as well as two years ago. This is much nicer than the typical San Diego beach rental in that it is a house as comfortable and clean as your own, probably more so. We hope to return next year.
We were walking distance to the beach as well as the commuter train station (Poinsettia Station) if you want to spend the day in downtown San Diego or Los Angeles and not hassle with the traffic.
The house is fully equipped with a great, open kitchen and living area. This is a gated community with a rec area which includes a large pool area and playground.
All in all, this is by far the best place in the San Diego area we have ever found.
A perfect location to spend every summer and winter too
We have spent the past 4 summers residing in this house from June 1-Sept 30. This house feels like our own home and because of our owner friends, the Janis', we have always taken the responsibility to treat it like ours. We never feel like renters. We feel like family. The house is a 4 bedroom/3 bath, 2 story piece of heaven. Only my wife and I (both geriatrics) live here so we keep the house spotless for the other renters. The master bedroom area has a king bed and a luxurious bathroom (tub and separate enclosed shower.) The master closet is huge- we don't have enough clothes to fill it and we are staying for 4 months!
The other bedrooms have a queen sized bed in one room and 2 single beds in the 3rd room upstairs. Downstairs, we have a portable blow up queen bed (professional grade and comfortable) which we have never had to use. Instead we use this bedroom as 1 of our offices. (it has everything that you will need to work in the house). Upstairs, there is a small alcove that is also set up as a second office which has all of the goodies too.) The three bathrooms are very large with showers in each.
Now for the play area. The kitchen is big. Having a party is easy (or a big family.) The great room sits 7 comfortably, the dining room seats 8. The backyard is fenced and can hold a really good party. Whatever you are looking for is waiting for you in this house.
The good news- the house is now air conditioned (as well as a new heater). Last summer the house got very warm since Carlsbad broke all of their heat records for the summer. Instead of 73* daily, we were stuck with 85*+. The wonderful owners realized the issue and have installed central AC. Needless to say, they are very special people.
The neighborhood is loaded with young families so if you have children, you will probably never see them. They will be hanging out with all of the wonderful neighbor kids. (or hang out at the community pool yourselves.) If you want to hang out at the ocean, it is an easy walk to get to the beach. I think that you are getting the idea that this house is priceless. It is!
winter escape in SoCal
We recently returned from a 3 week sojourn in Southern California having stayed in this lovely house. There were 6 adults - all of us feeling that we had enough space to spread out in this well equipped home. The house is very well appointed and well looked after. The art work is varied and lovely. The kitchen has all the utensils and equipment that you would want and more. The master bedroom is very spacious and well laid out. The heating ( which was unfortunately used), the garage space, the barbeque (potent!), the large appliances, the laundry facilities, linen/towels, seating areas, storage areas... in fact everything in this house has been chosen and thought out to a "T".
Despite the many rules and regulations to read through in their house manual it's mere existence is testament to the reason that the place is in such good condition and you truly have the feeling of being a guest in someone's house than being in a rental unit.
It is perfectly situated near the beach, the coastal train, the I-5, and shopping.
Although the weather did not allow for much swimming, the inviting hot tub/jacuzzi in the community spa area was frequented by our gang daily. Great relaxation! This gated community is friendly and gives off a safe vibe.
The owners were extremely informative, communicative in a timely fashion, thoughtful, and pleasant.
We look forward to returning to this home in the future - especially after returning home to -30C temperatures in northern Canada........

Home away from Home
This rental property has given us our best rental experience. As I told the owner, this home is so well appointed, clean and comfortable that we were surprised that it would be rented out to the public.
Everything in the home is in perfect condition, including the kitchen with all of the dishes, cooking supplies, etc. All of the towels, bedding and other supplies appear to be new and in A-1 condition.
The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. It is a gated community with no through traffic, a large clean pool, Jacuzzi and playground. Everything is kept up and in excellent shape.
Across from the development are restaurants and shopping. This is an upscale neighborhood. The commuter train is a 5 minute walk and the beaches are close by.
All in all we had a great time and I would recommend this home rental for anyone visiting the San Diego area..
Ideal working vacation!
My ski team recently conducted a physical training camp in the San Diego area. The team's coaching staff, 6 men, rented this property for 3 1/2 weeks. This property could not have worked out any better! We put in long hard days that included workouts at nearby Poinsettia Park, daily cycling on the Pacific Coast Highway, a daily commute into a gym in San Diego, some workouts on the beach and some surfing on our days off. Having a large, tidy, well organized garage was key as we do travel with a considerable amount of sports equipment including road bikes. The open kitchen was ample and ideal for 6 adults on differing schedules to cook for ourselves as we did take most of our meals in the house. Everyone in our group had a comfortable bed and more than ample personal space. Normally, with all our gear and personal affects, our group would be tripping over each other in one property, but not here. The house is well-designed for everyone to have space both for their belongings and to get work done. The commute into the city was easy. Access to the beaches was easy. The house is beautiful. It's well decorated with beautiful artwork and extremely comfortable. Exceptionally clean and tidy, It seemed like we were the first guests to have stayed there! This house could not have been any better for us! We will certainly be looking to reserve it again in the future!
