Beautiful home in the heart of Merida!

  • 5 of 5

The house is a colonial masterpiece! It was clean, spacious, inviting, and it was very safe. The courtyard was so inviting and the rooms were large and comfortable. The pool was a real hit with our two young boys (ages 2 and 5) and it is within easy walking distance of major tourist sites and delicious restaurants. We spent time in the main plaza and our children enjoyed the nearby park. Shopping and site seeing abounds in this location. For being in a busy downtown location we were astonished at how peaceful and quiet it was once inside the house. Agustin (the host) was terrific and the owners were helpful and replied promptly to emails. I would highly recommend this property if you are looking to experience Merida and all its charms!

Better than we believed was possible!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived later than expected due to a rental car issues at the Cancun airport. Agustin was there to meet us and showed us around the place giving us all the advice we needed and more; even included a local cell phone with directions on how to load minutes if needed. We had a car and parking on the street was never an issue. Air conditioning worked well; we shut it off when we left and it still stayed reasonably cool when we returned. I don't know if we hit a heat wave when we were there but it was in the mid 90's everyday. Our electricity ran $32 US for the 4 nights we were there; we ran it whenever we were in the unit. All beds were comfortable and it seemed like there was a mixture of firmness, I couldn't imagine anyone not finding somewhere to be comfortable. The front bedroom became a little noisy about 7 am but it wasn't anything that would wake you. The other rooms were crypt quiet. The pool area was unbelievable! Many of our friends who have seen pictures were amazed it wasn't a hotel resort. Safety in the area was never an issue, and we wandered far and wide at all hours of the day and night. The neighbors were very friendly and wished us Merry Christmas whenever they saw us. This is the first place where pictures do not do the place justice. Definitely our best experience using VRBO and can't wait to return!

Modern,Stylish House With Colonial Touches

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 12 days stay in Villa Sarteneja. The house is spacious, beautifully furnished with modern and colonial furniture, with huge bedrooms and bathrooms. The backyard patio is to die for:we spent countless hours just reading and relaxing there, occasionally taking a dip in the sparkling and surprisingly cool pool,or swimming laps when we felt more like exercising. We also had all our meals there. There is always a pleasant breeze coming through the entire house ,and there are a lot of ceiling fans in the house and in the patio. There are speakers installed and zoned in the house and the patio ,and we listened to classical music in the evenings ,with the patio beautifully lit around us.Magic moments.

The caretaker ,Agustin ,was very responsive to our questions ,and was ready with response email within a few minutes. The internet worked very well ,with strong coverage in the entire house and patio. The house is located 7 minutes walk from the Main Plaza, and about 10 minutes from supermarkets and the Central Market, which we visited almost daily for fresh fruit, and for colorful sightseeing.(We happen to like local markets).Buses to Progreso(the nearby beach)leave 5 minutes from the house ,and to Isamal about 15 minutes. The main bus station is 2 blocks away.

We definitely would recommend this property to our friends and family, for both short and long stays.

Great Property, Excellent Location, & Very Affordable!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for around 4 days and enjoyed walking all over Merida. Many plazas, shows, shops, restaurants/food carts are within walking distance. It is a safe location to walk around at night. The property itself was clean and had many beautiful details. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful family stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 4-day stay at Villa Sarteneja. We loved the house, the pool, the patio area, everything! Our two kids (ages 10 and 7) especially loved the pool. The kitchen was nicely stocked with utensils, pots/pans, real knives, etc. The wifi worked very well. It's a quick walk to the Plaza and to shops and restaurants. It's also very convenient to the ADO CAME bus station (about 2 blocks), which was great for us because we came from Playa del Carmen and then were going on to Isla Mujeres after Merida. The proximity to the bus station helped us decide to forgo a rental car, and we thereby saved significant funds. As others have said, Agustin was very helpful when we arrived. Given our relatively short stay, we didn't need to call on him while we were there. If we return to Merida, we'll definitely try to stay at Villa Sarteneja again.

Wonderful Villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this Villa while we were visiting Merida to attend our niece's wedding. It is everything that it states it is and the pictures are exactly what you will find. Agustin, the property manager was there waiting for us when we arrived. He showed us around the Villa explaining everything, giving us a cell phone to use locally, maps and info about the area and places to eat. We had rented a car and he had put cones out in front to reserve a parking place for us. The Villa was a delight from comfortable beds, to a great kitchen and the pool area was our favorite place to hangout. The pool was a wonderful treat to cool us off throughout the day. We really enjoyed early morning swims to late night dips in the pool. The location was perfect as we were only 2 blocks from the church that the wedding was held. But what we enjoyed most was walking over to the Grand Plaza or the park area to eat at one of the many restaurants. Debra and John were so easy to work with, with fast replies to our emails and very quick return of our deposit. Our time at this Villa was so delightful and we highly recommend it.

Activity and Interests

Merida has open markets, street festivals and live music and entertainment at different neighbourhood parks every night of the week. On weekends, visitors can try salsa dancing or enjoy their dinner and music right on the streets, where some areas of El Centro are blocked off from local traffic. For the romantics, there are horse and buggy rides down the beautiful and historic Paseo Montejo, or for those who choose to enjoy the sights on their own steam, bicycle rentals. Merida has excellent restaurants, theatres, museums, and art galleries, all within walking distance in El Centro.

Merida is located just 30 kilometers south of the Gulf Coast. Day trips are easily possible both to the Yucatan Gulf Coast or into the center of the Yucatan Peninsula to explore other colonial cities, cenotes or ancient Mayan ruins.
