Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this is a great place to rent. House has everything you need, all the privacy you can stand, and view is top-notch. My suggestion for renters: try to arrive at the home in the daytime. I couldn’t imagine driving up that road at night, it’s steep and curvy. We actually tried to finish our activities before night fall so we wouldn’t have to drive up that road in the dark. My suggestions for owner: 1) add steps down to dog area. It’s steep and slippery when wet. 2) add shower hoses to both showers. 3) it was wonderful to have a garage, but it was not big enough for my SUV. Maybe a small car would fit. Overall, it was a nice few days away from everything.

Owner's Response: The view is great, even if I do say so myself, no housing in the way. Not to sure what is meant by steps to the dog area, I am guessing the small slope to the grassy area, maybe mulch along the path could solve the problem. I will look into the shower hose, never has come up before, but seems to be a good idea. Not much I can do about the garage, it was originally build before SUV's were the rage. I am going to be there next week, so I will look into your suggestions. Bob

Very peaceful and comfortable with a fantastic view.

We had our Thanksgiving here. Everything was perfect. The family enjoyed hiking and just relaxing in front of the fireplace, playing pool and games. the dog yard was perfect for my 5 year old Australian cattle dog and my 14 year old toy poodle. Everything we needed for cooking our big meal was available. The house was very clean and organized. We enjoyed the Winter celebration with the tree lighting in Franklin. Love this little town. We hope to be back again. Thank you for sharing your dream house with my family.

Highly Recommnend

Beautiful spot in the N.C. mountains. Home is as advertised, plus! Immaculate, well stocked, very private and secluded. Made for visitors with dogs...private fenced dog park on premises. Fabulous views from deck that completely surround home . Enjoyed fireplace at night with owners pre-cut logs. No complaints on a 3 day weekend stay previewing for a possible summer rental. The leaves were late this year and we were really treated to their blinding beauty. Truly awesome. Thank you Bob for sharing your wonderful mountain chalet.

Amazing Value for an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for our annual 'family mountain get-together', despite Hurricane Irma's best attempts to wipe out this event. We usually rent large, 'over-indulgent' homes since kids and grandkids usually attend (up to 12 in our group), but scaled back this year since the grandkids were in school. Our first priority was an entry that would accommodate our 90 year old mother who walks with a cane, followed by allowing pets (2 small dogs), didn't require 4-wheel drive, location (close to Franklin, Highlands, and Cashiers) and a view. The gently inclined walkway was easy enough for mom to negotiate, the fenced-in pet yard/deck was perfect for pets, the road is steep but manageable, location almost in the center of those 3 towns, and the view trumped our expectations. As a bonus, parking is more than ample as we had local family and friends over, and the enormous deck was perfect for entertaining them. The garage turned out to be a bigger amenity than the game room since my mom and sisters try to deplete the inventory of every store within driving distance, it became our personal warehouse. We never needed to contact the owner or maintenance person for anything during our stay so I can't comment on that aspect, but Mr. Hibner was quick to respond to any questions. For the price, I can't believe there's a better value, and I've reviewed (and rented) a lot of properties in the area. If luxury is a priority, this is not your destination. Furnishings are basic, but more than enough. It was large enough for 6 adults, but over that it might get tight. The bedrooms aren't big (except the loft), but we were only in them to sleep and dress. If I had to find a fault it would be lack of a half-bathroom, 4 adults sharing the one downstairs bathroom gets busy, but we could always go to the loft and use that one. Again, for the price, it's worth the wait.

As far as activities nearby, the guys golfed at Sequoya National (probably the most beautiful course we've ever played), Sapphire Valley, and in Franklin. We intended to play pickleball at the Parker Meadows complex but never made it. The road from Highlands to Franklin (hwy 64) is one of the most scenic roads in the region, with tons of waterfalls. Lake Glenville (20 minutes away) was a tad chilly for swimming, but offers ample public access.

In the end, everyone in our group agreed we would return here for our next mountain getaway (or our own family vacations), and that is a feat in itself.

if our family could sum our stay in Franklin here in one word - "peaceful" comes to mind. With beautiful views, quiet and seclusion we got just what we were looking for. The house is in good shape but the real highlight are the mountain views and surrounding woods. We managed to lock ourselves out of the downstairs bathroom but Bob was able to get someone over to fix it within a day. he also gave us some great reccommendations about hiking trails, waterfalls, and horseback riding. Wish we could have stayed longer. We sure hope to be back .

Views for days!

This house was simply amazing to stay at! We had a great girls trip, including exploring nearby waterfalls and always ending in a relaxing sunset dinner on the porch with unparalleled views. The pool table was just the icing on the cake! Bob was a great host, we will be back next year!

Franklin is well known for it's gem mining and natural beauty of it's surrounding mountains. Take a nice walk in this wooded community or enjoy the pet friendly Franklin Greenway. There is plenty of festivals, special events, and local activities to keep you busy here.

Nearby outdoor attractions consist of waterfall hikes, whitewater rafting/tubing, golf, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking and of course Great Smokey National Park, 45 minutes away.

Franklin offers movie theaters, bowling, a children's recreation center, and a performing arts theatre.

In addition to Highlands, neighboring towns are Dillsboro and Sylvia 20 minutes to the north, Asheville one hour to the east, and Harrah's Cherokee casino 40 minutes to the north.
