Great beach front house away from crowds for large groups

  • 4 of 5

We reserved this property for a family get away. Great location, close to Cape May and Wildwood. 3 levels of rooms to allow larger groups to spread out. 2 Sofa sleepers also allowed us to spread out folks. Great views from top deck - watched sunsets and summer lighting storms over the bay. multiple levels of deck to view bay. Bay access was fantastic, beach at bay is great for walking, playing volleyball and other activities. Water in Bay was a more dirty than Atlantic, so our water activities were generally at Cape May Beaches. large table for dining opportunities. two picnic tables and grill on lower deck to enjoy cooking and eating outside.

Spacious home, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful, spacious and fully equipped with everything we would need in a home away from home. It was very clean. The views were amazing with breathtaking sunsets over the water .

The property manager was quick to respond to any questions, attended promptly to our needs and very helpful.

We would definitely stay here again. Five+ stars

Good from far, but far from good!

  • 1 of 5

Renting this house at a minimum of 4 nights requires resources, time off, and planning. But we did all of that so that in return we get compensated with a relaxing weekend among friends and family.

Living in the city, it took us over 3 hours to get here, so we got in a little later that we had hoped. Tired and hungry, we had just caught the sunset, and got ready to fire up the grill, only to find out that the propane tank was completely empty. The closest store open was 50+ miles away, as the town ones closed at 5pm.

Second, as you all will find out after booking this place, there are no bed sheets (nor towels) provided. We brought our own, but as we were about to put them on the mattresses, two of them had blood stains. In a way I was glad I brought my own sheets, but at the same time very disgusted. And this property had a 'property manager' by the way, who inspects it thoroughly, but somehow has failed to notice the stains all over the mattresses.

Third, the garbage disposal, nor the dishwasher were not working, so make sure to bring enough paper plates, cups, and while you are at it utensils.

Forth, the water is right in front, as shown in the pictures, although you would not want to use the beach. The water is dirty, even the locals recommend to not use it.

Overall, you are paying for a house that will not give you the experience sold in those pictures, and further more you will end up paying up on top of the rental fee, part of your deposit. We are currently in the process of filing an insurance claim to get the deposit back, but just going thru the hassle was enough to write this long review and give this house 1 star.

Btw, the house is also listed for sale, so I am guessing they don't really care on how many stars they receive on homeaway, since they will get rid of it soon.

Hope that I have warned enough people, so that they can look at other options and avoid a disastrous weekend getaway by choosing this place.

Owner's Response: Thank you for booking with us and for your review. The comfort and safety of our guests is our #1 objective regardless if the home is for sale or not. We want your stay at CapeHouse to be enjoyable and full of great memories. We would like to correct some comments you made to clarify your statements to our future guest. The closest Food store open until midnight is 3.2 miles from the rental property, in other words 10 minutes drive. The property description on Homeaway/VRBO/Vacation rental clearly states that there are no linens/towels on premises, as most rental properties they do not offer linens. As you already knew that, because you brought your own linens/towels. You were our first welcomed guest, which means all mattress pads, pillow covers, liners were new for the beginning of the season. As a property manager I take pride in making sure your needs are met while vacationing here at this rental property. That means I e-mail you directions and ask each guest once they check in “is everything ok”?. Inspections, prior and after guest arrive, we do at all times on the disposal, dishwasher, dryer/wash machine and other appliances. Prior to your arrival all was functional and upon your departure the disposal was not working. Immediate action was taking due to a short 4 hour window prior to next guest arrival. We provide 10 trash cans that need to be utilized and we do have signs everywhere indicating the rules/regulations of trash & recycling laws. Failure to put the trash bags in cans result in animals going thru the bags, which in this case we had to pick up the scattered trash and sort the recycling in the designated trash bins to haul the trash to a private dump, because you failed to put the trash out to curb. We have been renting this private home and we never had any deductions of deposits. Unfortunately a deduction of monies from the security deposit was eminent as the cost of replacing the motor on the disposal (due to bottle caps, chicken bones) was found in the disposal and the hauling of 15 trash bags to a dump was necessary. The grill utensils, corn on the cob, chicken skewers you left inside the grill and all dishes were still dirty in the dishwasher and the condition of the house you left us with were not deducted from your deposit. The remainder of your deposit was refunded back to you within 10 business days.

Very comfortable home and responsive management.

  • 3 of 5

When we got there, the dishwasher and garbage disposal were broken but someone was there to fix them the next day. There were piles of garbage along the side of the house and the grill was filthy and still had food on it, but the cleaning/ management crew had that cleaned up as soon as possible. The house was very spacious and open and had a nice view of the ocean. We could see dolphins and whales from the balcony. It was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, but the stove seems kind of old. The fenced yard was very convenient for our dog, but the back yard needs work. There were a lot of weeds and poison ivy and the grass was all patchy. The access path to the beach was overgrown with poison ivy and sticker bushes. The outside shower didn't work very well. The beach was very quiet and it is a short drive to Cape May. There is no access to the garage. It was all locked up. The driveway had enough space for at least 5 cars though. It would have been nice if linens were provided. Most of the bedroom closets did not have rods for hanging clothes. The temperature could only be adjusted by contacting management which was inconvenient.

Cape House made for a Memorable B'Day!

  • 4 of 5

We rented the Cape House to celebrate my 50th Birthday! We truly had a memorable time. The house had plenty of room to accommodate my family. Beds were comfy. The location to the bay was ideal. And, champagne toast on the 3rd floor deck while watching sunset was perfect. Being able to bring our dogs on the beach and also the fenced in yard with doggie door was icing on the cake! Convenient location to Cape May and local brewery and wineries. Even saw dolphins in the bay one day. If you have any questions, when you get to the house, call Bettina the property Manager... she is wonderful. She will respond quickly, as she truly wants you to have an enjoyable stay.

Only recommendation would be to update deck furniture and update a couple of chairs in living room.

I would definitely come back!

Awesome trip because of family...accommodation just okay.

  • 3 of 5

We had rented this home to have a family vacation with my parents and brothers. The vacation would have been amazing no matter what, as we were all together. Pros of this home: comfy beds; beach access from the back yard; able to take our dogs; location to family living locally in the Villas. There was an issue with the satellite TV on our arrival, but the property manager was prompt to get everything back online.

However, there were some cons: We arrived at the house at 4:20pm and the cleaning crew was still there, so we dos have to wait about 20-30 minutes longer to get into the house. Once in, as we were getting settled, it was noted that the trash cans In the bathrooms had waste in them from the previous renter. As this is not the first beach house I have rented, I know that there are times that the garbage cans and recycling need to be put out and that there may be trash left from the previous renter. However, there were 12 bags of trash along with animal waste and recycling all mixed together. The smell due to the excessive heat was unbelievable. The thermostat was set and locked at 75. The first 2 days there, it was almost 100 degrees outside and the house was sweltering without any way to cool it down. With a sick parent stay with us, this was not the ideal situation. The bedroom on the main floor was hot the entire week and was very uncomfortable to sleep in. The living room furniture was dirty...I mean dirty. Cushions on the couch stained, recliners stained with a foul odor. We did spray them down with Lysol to try to decrease the odor. The arm on the couch was broken and pseudo-repaired with staples (actually still broken though). With small children, this was a problem. We actually got bed sheets to cover the furniture due to how dirty it appeared.

The house worked for what we needed, a place close to the beach to spend needed time with our ill mom. It really could stand to have some updates with the furniture and allow some variability with the thermostat. Broken, smelly stained furniture in the common meeting room of the house is really a turn off, as well as a safety and health issue.
