About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 8 Sleeps

The Bufflehead Bungalow on Cayuga Lake catches expansive views of Cayuga Lake from its west shore location and wrap around deck. Built in 2007, the cottage main floor features include 2 bedrooms, bathroom, open kitchen-dining-living area opening to wrap around deck and great views. The loft area provides 'dormitory' style sleeping arrangements. The basement rec area has game tables (Air Hockey, Foosball and Electronic Dart Board) and sliders to patio area. The Sheldrake area of Cayuga Lake is well known. There is a public boat launch 1.5 miles away. Enjoy the Many nearby wineries and restaurants as well as the excellent fishing and water activities. Also, 35 minutes from the Del Lago Resort & Casino. The cottage is across the low traffic drive known as Wyers Point Road where you will often find neighbors out for a stroll or maybe a jog. There are approximately 50 steps to the lake level. Four kayaks and paddleboat are provided by owners. Satellite. This past year we have been spotting a pair of Bald Eagles from our deck. It is quite an amazing site. More photos available upon request or check out the bufflehead bungalow on Facebook

About Rebecca Yonge

We built this cottage new in 2007. My husband grew up in the area. We hope everyone enjoys their stay in the beautiful Finger lakes.

Rebecca Yonge purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Rebecca Yonge chose New York

Our property is very close to many of NY's best wineries. The lake is walk in with a nice lake shore. Also, new to the area is the Boathouse Beer Garden at the shops of Trader Village and the Fire House Beer in Ovid and the Myer Farm Spirits Distillers. Captain Skip Stamberger has a water to wine boat tour and all drinks considered bus tour is within a mile. The Busy Bee is 3 miles along the lake. It is a market and cafe and rents bikes and kayaks. Del Lago Resort & Casino is a 35 minute drive.

What makes this cottage unique

Please feel free to ask if we have any unadvertised specials. We have 1.5 acres on a quiet road to enjoy.

You can watch the sun rise and set from the living room or balcony. The view is wonderful, and the lake is steps away. There are so many things to see and do only minutes away. You can visit the many wineries, great little shops, or hike.

Pros and Cons - Overall, a nice place

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for 10 days and booking was quite easy via a travel company. Upon arrival, the driveway is steep but no problem for cars. There is a gravel and grass path to the stairs to the large deck. Most of the land is sloping to the lake but there is a flat portion towards the back of the property for a BBQ. Inside is nice and fairly updated. They provide a huge book of DVDs, games, and yard games. Kitchen was fully stocked for cooking. All you need to bring is food. The 2 bedrooms have large closets but no dressers and only one end table with a lamp. The loft is nice with 4 beds. Lake area is 50 steps down and small but has plenty of amenities such as 4 kayaks, 1 paddle boat, fire pit, fishing poles and chairs. The dock is good for fishing as I caught quite a few perch and blue gills. The location of the house is centralized to all the touristy sites, wineries, breweries, and restaurants. About 30 minutes to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Seneca Falls. The BBQ was rusted out but when I contacted the owner, a new one was provided the same day.

• Location

• Amenities

• Service from the owner (except to fix the slow shower).

• Lots of bugs outside at night and sometimes inside. Especially spider webs.

• Very slow water pressure in the shower. Almost unusable.

• Musty smell in the basement where the games are.

• Could use dusting of cobwebs inside and power washing the exterior.

• Bedrooms could use more furniture and lighting.

• There is no place to hang towels in the bathroom.

Owner's Response: Greg, Thank you for your comments and the beautiful pictures you sent! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for bringing to our attention the water pressure. We have since replaced the filter in the lake which now provides better water pressure throughout the entire house. The basement has been ventilated and we will pressure wash the outside more often during the season. Thanks again for your suggestions and feel free to contact us at anytime! Gene & Jan Brewer
