Close to the main entrance of Acadia National Park

The cottage is nested in the forest on a 1 acre lot, in a quiet neighborhood. You can watch dear and turkey cross the property, or walk to the nearby cove. At night, gather on the deck and gaze at the stars. Enjoy an evening cook-out on the grill and top it off with smores. The house is close to the main entrance to Acadia National Park and is convenient to the downtown area of Bar Harbor and the other island villages.

Acadia rightfully claims to be one of the most beautiful scenic treasures in America, featuring both stunning ocean views and narrow lakes surrounded by mountains and forests. Mount Desert Island offers some of the best hiking and biking trails in New England. Catch a whale watching boat, or rent a Kayak and discover the wonders and wildlife of Frenchman and Blue Hill bays. Admire the sunrises/sunsets and moonrises/moonsets from the top of Cadillac Mountain. Take a short ferry trip to the picturesque Cranberry and Swans islands.

Perfect for small family to small groups.

  • 5 of 5

Deer cottage looks cute and small. But once we stayed, we are fully satisfied on their enough space, neat, tidy rooms and its secluded location also give us very relaxing stays. Upper level kids bed rooms were still nice for us: 2 adults, 4 & 7 graders. We really loved the cottage. We want to come again.

great peaceful location. Comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at Deer Cottage. The house was clean when we arrived. It is cosy and private, making for perfect rest at the end of a hiking day. Easy access to the national park. We will stay here again if we come back to the area.

Great space, great location

  • 5 of 5

We were two families of four staying here over Memorial Day weekend, and this house was a perfect spot for all eight of us.

The location is good, a quiet spot on the north end of the island that's still close enough to easily get to all of the things that there are to do in the area. The house itself was very spacious and well-equipped, not once did we feel crowded in. The kitchen was especially big which is a huge help when you're cooking for eight. Not that we got in much cooking with all of the amazing restaurants in the area.

This was a great spot for our kids, as the property is surrounded by woods on all sides, but the woods are not so big that the kids got lost. We were able to have them play outside whenever we were at home and they happily did so, exploring the property.

An exceptional value, when we return to Bar Harbor in a few years we will be coming back here to stay!

Lots of Space in a Quiet Location

  • 4 of 5

Overall had a nice experience at Deer Cottage. The home is a great size for 6-8. Quiet location just off of Hwy 3. A short drive into town and the park. Large deck with a great yard. Large bedrooms. Kitchen had plenty of dishes and utensils. Lots of space to eat at the island or the table. Laundry in the basement was convenient. Be aware there is no AC which was fine for us and our stay but could be an issue for some.

Few things that really could use some improvement. The lighting in the house is dim. Low wattage florescent bulbs everywhere. Hard to see in the bedrooms and bathrooms. As someone else mentioned the mirrors and light fixtures are mounted extremely low. I'm just average height and knocked my head on the bathroom light fixture multiple times leaning over the sink while brushing my teeth. Was also surprised to find only 2 1/2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 roll of paper towels and three trash bags provided at check in. For a large home that easily accommodates eight the property wasn't supplied well. Make sure you bring everything. Finally considering there is a cleaning fee built in to the price you are expected to do a lot of your own cleaning on checkout including washing and putting away all dishes, taking out the trash, stripping beds, starting laundry and sweeping the floors. This is all spelled out in detail in the handbook in the kitchen. I didn't expect daily maid service but I also expected to not have to do half the cleaning on check out.

Great Location and Nice home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for four nights and completely enjoyed our stay. You couldn't ask for a better location! Set back in the woods--made you feel like you were all alone. VERY close to the Hull's Cove entrance to Acadia National Park which is why we came to the area. The 4 bedrooms were perfect for our group of 2 couples and 2 children. The kitchen had everything we needed in order to relax after a day of hiking and exploring. I would definitely stay here again!
