House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

Close to the main entrance of Acadia National Park

The cottage is nested in the forest on a 1 acre lot, in a quiet neighborhood. You can watch dear and turkey cross the property, or walk to the nearby cove. At night, gather on the deck and gaze at the stars. Enjoy an evening cook-out on the grill and top it off with smores. The house is close to the main entrance to Acadia National Park and is convenient to the downtown area of Bar Harbor and the other island villages.

Acadia rightfully claims to be one of the most beautiful scenic treasures in America, featuring both stunning ocean views and narrow lakes surrounded by mountains and forests. Mount Desert Island offers some of the best hiking and biking trails in New England. Catch a whale watching boat, or rent a Kayak and discover the wonders and wildlife of Frenchman and Blue Hill bays. Admire the sunrises/sunsets and moonrises/moonsets from the top of Cadillac Mountain. Take a short ferry trip to the picturesque Cranberry and Swans islands.

Lots of Space in a Quiet Location

  • 4 of 5

Overall had a nice experience at Deer Cottage. The home is a great size for 6-8. Quiet location just off of Hwy 3. A short drive into town and the park. Large deck with a great yard. Large bedrooms. Kitchen had plenty of dishes and utensils. Lots of space to eat at the island or the table. Laundry in the basement was convenient. Be aware there is no AC which was fine for us and our stay but could be an issue for some.

Few things that really could use some improvement. The lighting in the house is dim. Low wattage florescent bulbs everywhere. Hard to see in the bedrooms and bathrooms. As someone else mentioned the mirrors and light fixtures are mounted extremely low. I'm just average height and knocked my head on the bathroom light fixture multiple times leaning over the sink while brushing my teeth. Was also surprised to find only 2 1/2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 roll of paper towels and three trash bags provided at check in. For a large home that easily accommodates eight the property wasn't supplied well. Make sure you bring everything. Finally considering there is a cleaning fee built in to the price you are expected to do a lot of your own cleaning on checkout including washing and putting away all dishes, taking out the trash, stripping beds, starting laundry and sweeping the floors. This is all spelled out in detail in the handbook in the kitchen. I didn't expect daily maid service but I also expected to not have to do half the cleaning on check out.

Great Location and Nice home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for four nights and completely enjoyed our stay. You couldn't ask for a better location! Set back in the woods--made you feel like you were all alone. VERY close to the Hull's Cove entrance to Acadia National Park which is why we came to the area. The 4 bedrooms were perfect for our group of 2 couples and 2 children. The kitchen had everything we needed in order to relax after a day of hiking and exploring. I would definitely stay here again!

Great space for our party of 7!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family experience at the Deer Cottage rental! We all had our own area that was spaced out well, with a bathroom between the bedrooms on each floor. Gave us privacy, yet we were all together. The kitchen was easy to work in, with lots of room! The neighborhood was quiet and the house is nestled in the trees, which we liked. Very peaceful ;) Great location too, with Bar Harbor & Acadia Nat'l Park being only a few minutes away! The only minor issue was that the mirrors in the bathrooms were very low. My pregnant daughter-in-law had to get down on her knees to blow dry her hair. She is tall, but even for the average adult they are low. Overall, this was a very nice place to stay. Would definitely rent Deer Cottage again!

Fantastic Vacation Home !!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed only for two days at this vacation home, but we just loved it !!!

We enjoyed a lot with friends and family in this vacation home. Rooms, Kitchen and all the amenities were very clean and neat. We had an awesome Chicken Grill at the night. Its definitely one of the best vacation homes to stay near Acadia national park. This is the second time I am visiting this vacation home and I would love to come back whenever I visit Acadia.

Rental agents were quick and prompt taking care of all the things needed.

I would definitely recommend Deer cottage vacation home for an awesome vacation at Acadia National Park, ME.

Charmong house

  • 5 of 5

Charming house, well-kept and clean, lots of space. Beautiful property, landscaped and private, with easy access to Acadia national park and all the villages on the island. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck at night. The stars are beautiful out there, away from city light. The owners were very helpful replied to our emails promptly. I recommend it.
