Hidden Cottage 1 mile from downtown very very private 2 acres sleeps 10+

Property Details

Updated: Aug 17, 2016
3Bedrooms, 2 Baths, with an additional 3 bedrooms in the daylight basement

Acadia National Park is across the street and our Private little Cottage is down a long drive Hidden from view of everyone except the deer, turkeys, eagles, and sometimes a fox. This is a very private spot on the worlds second most beautiful island so why wouldn't the animals love it too. Our home is fully appliance d and in good working order, all be it very modest. But if you want to be 100 yards from the park, this is the spot. If you want to be 1.4 Miles from Main Street this is your spot. The privacy is hard to imagine for such a location but we truly are hidden from view and the steep driveway keeps the salesmen away.. bonus. The cottage has 3 bedrooms on the main floor and 2 bedrooms in the daylight basement, if that isn't enough the couch makes into a bed as well.. The Cottage is on 2 acres and has a brook running down one side of it. a very peaceful spot. We are just 1/4 from the Duck Brook trail head .. which means you don't need to search for parking you can hop on your bike right from the Cottage.

About the Owner

Gray is a professor at College of the Atlantic and Carolyn is a Real Estate broker. We love to travel and between the two of us have cris crossed the world. After spending 2 months together in New Zealand and experiencing the "BACKPACKERS " we realized what a Gem Acadia National Park really is!! (and we loved New Z).. We share our little cottage in the woods with guests so they can experience also. While our home is modest it is very close to both the park and the downtown area so you can easily bike to both. There is always a crowd around us so we would expect you to feel like bringing a friend or 2 or ten to experience this lovely island with you. Cheers

Diver Ed, Whale Watching, Light house tours , Bass Harbor, SouthWest Harbor, Small fishing Villages with sweet shops and awesome food and seafood. Hiking Bee Hive, and Gorham, and thirty or forty others, and swimming at Sand Beach, or jumping off the cliffs at Lakewood, standing in the ocean or waiting for Thunder Hole. World Class Hiking trails and biking carriage trails or riding a horse drawn carriage through the park. Walking the shore path past the greatest examples of architecture of the East Coast. In fact, Turrets, found at College of the Atlantic, was from the same hand as Chateau Frontenac, in Quebec. But then, sometimes it 's just eating an ice cream and watching the red sails of the Margarett Todd being raised from the Village Green. You'll wish you lived here. Maybe it's just sitting on a couch at Reel Pizza, drinking a beer and watching a movie while eating a great pizza ..and dreaming about the lobster you ate for lunch or the one you will eat tomorrow.

From the Owner

Although we only own 2.4 acres it seems like 10 because we are tucked down under the hill and behind some trophy houses that are hidden by the distance of their own back yards and a screen of trees.. we are just 2 miles from world class golfing and the hiking/and biking can start the minute you step out the door. Our parking area will accommodate 5 vehicles which will make it easier to enjoy Bar Harbor when you don't need to find parking. Especially for the big events like 4th of July as the fireworks are world class out over and reflected in the bay. Our "SAND Beach" so named is really millions of years of shells crushing against the rocks no sand...It is quite beautiful and most unique of any beach you will ever walk.. at one end is the trail head to Great Head .. this beautiful parcel of real estate along with sand beach were purchased by John Pierpont (J.P.)Morgan.. for his wife Fanny but given to his daughter Louisa after she married H. Satterlee. After and the fire of 1947 their daughter Eleanor purchased the property out of their estate and donated it to the park .. It sits just the other side of a small pond that is fresh water fed and feeds into the ocean.. in fact the ocean feeds into it on a stormy night so the water can be salty and fresh. Looking to the West behind this small pond looms a mountain and my personal favorite to hike named BEE HIVE. It looks like a bee hive with it bald head sticking so far out of the earth and it offers the best views of Sand Beach and Otter Cliffs as you can get... but it is for experienced hikers with rungs and steep ascents that should never be approached going down. It is an uphill hike... while you can get to the top in another way from Gorham hike or the Bowl hike.. do not try to crawl down this mighty hill .. it will not be fun and it will take you 3 times longer than walking around to the down hill path to the parking lot. That's the best advice you'll get on hiking in Acadia.
