We had a great time. The pictures don't do the place justice. We can't wait till next year
Great cottage home
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at the yellow cottage in Topinabee. The home had the right amount of comfort and amenities for us to not miss home, but also had plenty of that "up north" feel to make sure you know you're on vacation. Really enjoyed the the 2 kayaks that were available for use, and the walking/biking trail that runs adjacent to the west side of the lake. Dorene is a great communicator and very helpful throughout the rental process.
If you seek a cute, clean cottage on Mullet Lake, this is it! Our fall getaway long weekend was ideal as this place is centrally located in Topinabee from where we could easily drive to northern Lk Michigan towns those on Lk Huron as well as the Mackinac Bridge leading to the Upoee Peninsula. If we had more time we'd have loved to simply stay put at the cottage and relax by the water or be cozy inside! Loved the many lakeside Windows from which to view the gorgeous sunrise over the lake! And the double mattress in the lakeside master bedroom was supportively perfect for a great night's sleep! The manager, Darlene, was a gem and most thoughtful. We want to return as soon as possible!
Our fall colors getaway at this little yellow cottage in Mullet Lake was wonderful! The cottage was clean, bright and cozy, with a terrific close view of the lake. Doesn't have a fireplace but the view of the lake and all the stars makes up for it. We loved the sunroom for morning coffee as we watched the sunrise over the lake, especially. The double size mattress in the lakeside master bedroom was really comfortable, and hearing the waves all made for great nights' sleeping. (The sound of occasional vehicles passing on the nearby road die down at night so not much of a problem.) The central location in Topinabee was perfect for daytime excursions to both the western and eastern sides of the State, as well as to the north (St.Ignace casino!). We will definitely continue our new fall escape tradition here!
Rented this cottage for a family weekend. My wife and I along with our two daughters arrived Friday night, very easy to find. We settled in, I made a bonfire and we started to unwind. Saturday was amazing, rented a boat from Indian River Marina and toured the lake. We grilled from the cottage's deck, went for a walk along the bike path that is nearby, had dinner just down the road in Indian River, came back to an amazing sunset and bonfire. Very accurate description, photo's do not do the place justice. Very clean, great location and had zero issues. Full security deposit was refunded within 48 hours of checking out and communication was a breeze with owner from check-in procedures, questions we had and checking out. We will be back and recommend this property to anyone.
Charming, well maintained, and plenty to do
We had a wonderful time at this cottage. My wife and 3 kids ages 8-11 wanted to extend the stay!
--well appointed and maintained, with all kitchen amenities, and clean rooms/furniture
--view of Mullett Lake
--close to Macknac, Indian River, Burt State Park, and the UP
--nice backyard with large sandy play area, shallow water, and fire pit
--cottage is private but is only a few yards from the main road so traffic noise was heard
--no bbq tools with the grill
--wifi could not connect, but I was happy about that
Overall, I would certainly recommend this cottage to a friend or even re-visit it again. Close to town and the Topinabee Beach area. Close to public lake access point. Working with Dorene was easy.
Activity and Interests
Topinabee/Indian River area is the heart of the finest outdoor recreational opportunities that Northern michigan has to offer such as lakes and rivers for boating and fishing, forests for hunting wildlife and mushroom hunting, bird watching and recreational trails for snowmobiling, biking, hiking, cross country skiing and ORV riding converge on Indian River. You can come to Topinabee and Indian River and go fast-water kayaking, ORV riding and sea kayaking all in the same summer weekend. If you'd rather do something more passive, substitute reading a book by the lakeshore or riverfront having lunch while watching boats pass by on the waterway and sitting by a campfire in the evening! Indian River is located between Burt and Mullett Lakes, two of Michigan's largest inland lakes and are part of the Inland Water Route, a 38 mile chain of lakes and rivers that begins in Conway and empties into Lake Huron at Cheboygan. The lakes and connecting rivers are enjoyed by boaters, kayakers, sailboaters and a wide variety of powerboats! Indian River is a prime fishing destination for both professionals and amateur fishermen but the professionals don't enjoy their catch any more than the five-year-old who catches his or her first fish while fishing with grandpa! Indian River is also at the middle of the North Central State Recreational Trail, a 62 mile trail from Gaylord to Machinaw City. The Indian River Golf Club has a beautiful 18 hole course and wthin an hour's drive there are dozens of other 9 and 18 hole courses. The Cross in the Woods is the Worlds largest crucifix. It is one of Michigan's top tourist destinations and draws hundreds of thousands of people to Indian River each year.Indian River is at the northern edge of the Pigeon River Country State Forest, home of the nationals largest wild elk herd east of the Mississippi.
