Definitely with in the top 3 places we have ever stayed. So quiet, peaceful with a great marsh view. So many different birds to watch. Very homey and comfortable. If we could make it a weekend get away we would go nearly every month. The ceder keys area fishing and snorkeling was fantastic as well. Icing on the cake.
A great week in Cedar Key
Great location for privacy and seclusion yet near enough to downtown activities. Would like to return in October for longer stay. Need to understand the thermostat as it would default back to preset cooler setting when ever we set it to to a more comfortable setting. Overall relaxing experience.
Peaceful Week Off :)
We really enjoyed our stay. So did our fur-babies. Beautiful home and a Wonderful View. Art & April were always quick to response to any question we might have. Everything is there that you need. Just bring food and drink and yourself. Relax and enjoy. Close to everything. Thanks again Art & April :) We Will Be Back !!
March at Cedar Key
This will be brief because I haven't time for much detail. We enjoyed our stay, the house was comfortable and clean, The cleaning staff even helped us hump our baggage up the stairs to the house. Our complaint is that the owner offers no instructions for operating the fussy t.v. or the other electronic devices.
We hiked around town, took a boat trip and visited the many state parks in the area. The town is quaint and interesting, the people friendly.
Nature At It’s Best
I had read about Cedar Key a few years ago and put it on my bucket list of places to go. The Island Getaway was the perfect place to enjoy this unique setting. Tucked away on a quiet clam shell paved lane, it sits high above the marsh where one can sit for hours watching the birds feed during the day and pretty evening sunsets. The stars really pop at night! The house has lots of large windows letting the outside in. A large kitchen island with cooktop is a nice place to gather for meals, games or listening to the jukebox filled with 100 music cd’s. Beautiful outdoor deck shower, kayaks, bikes to ride, and a huge dvd library are provided. We enjoyed walking our dogs on the boardwalk through the marsh at the Cedar Key Cemetary entrance. We were lucky enough to spot two owls there at dusk! Recommend breakfast at Annie’s Cafe, Tony’s Seafood Restaurant for clam chowder, Steamer’s Clam Bar, and for a special dining experience on the water, check out the Island Room at Cedar Cove. Thank you Art and April for a memorable family vacation!
Beautiful, quiet house overlooking a marsh <5 mins drive from "downtown"
Spacious, secluded home with beautiful views over the salt marsh. An easy walk to the Cedar Key historic homestead or cemetery and nature walk; an easy drive to "downtown," with the market and the restaurants and shops. Two full bedrooms and bathrooms, a sleeping loft and a big, comfortable room for living / dining / cooking. A generous deck for sitting in the mornings (bring bug spray!) and a grill for the evenings. A very well-stocked kitchen (high-quality pots and pans, a blender, and all the usual stuff.) Kayaks and bikes for guests' use.
It definitely would have been helpful to have a printed "house book" or online instructions, as we couldn't figure out various things -- (1) how to control the temperature (too much A/C for our northern blood), (2) how to make the jukebox stop flashing lights, (3) how to access Netflix or Amazon on the giant TV -- and we didn't want to bother the owners continuously. (We *did* bother them when the internet fried overnight, and when the temperature dropped to 40 degrees and our inability to control the temperature became more than an inconvenience, and they were immediately responsive.) The pretty main bedroom has no bedside tables, so we stayed in the guest room ... where there are bedside tables but no reading lamps.
But these were relatively minor inconveniences compared to the pleasure of spending a week on beautiful Cedar Key :).
It's like time stood still in Cedar key! The island has a small, quaint 'downtown' that feels relaxed and friendly. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast or keylime pie at a number of places, a cigar bar on Dock Street, the best chowder in the the world at Tonys, or live music with steamed clams and a juicy burger at the outdoor Big Deck. The most adorable store to visit is The Dilly Dally with mermaid trinkets, t-shirts and darling sundresses. Then cool off with ice cream and souvenier shopping at the shop next door. The local art stores provide wonderful pieces to view or purchase. The local hardware store has a helpful staff and a good selection of items. Stroll toward the town beach to cool off, or rent a golf cart (a lot of fun!) or a ride on a horsedrawn carriage. Hop on a boat tour (it's so neat to learn about the history of the area) or rent a boat for your own adventure. See dolphins frolicking in the water, birds everywhere and explore the little nearby islands. It is a photographer's delight - it is just gorgeous! Visit Kona Joe's for a cup of hot coffee or refreshing fruit smoothie and next door is a shop that makes lovely, local canvas bags for purchase. There are churches for worship, 2 little markets, take out pizza joints, and 5 mins up Rte 24 is a neat watering hole w/ an awesome sunset called The Tikki Bar. The local police is visible and friendly. The pier in town is terrific to relax on or fish off. Folks travel near and far to fish in Cedar Key!
