Weather:

Consistent Temperatures at 85-88 all year round. The rain is welcomed for a short cooling off, mostly near the mountain regions. Unless a tropical system is involved, the rain usually quickly passes to reveal the sun. This is especially the case in Makaha as it is shielded by the Waianae Mountain Range!

SPRING and SUMMER "in general" bring the most tranquil ocean tides and soft, warm ocean trade winds.

FALL and WINTER "in general" and seasonally our North & West beaches bring more consistent high wave action. Tourist, locals and surfers come for the Van's World Class Surfing contests and the famous "Eddie" which was spectacular in 2016. Waves are spectacular to watch at Makaha Beach, and north shores, Waimea Bay & Pipeline or Sunset. Caution to all swimmers: Check with lifeguards regarding west and north facing beaches as currents and tides are unpredictable at times. Check the nightly news for surf reports for expected conditions & wave heights.

A Perfect Winter Escape for Snow-Birds to Fly off too!

Oahu's West side boasts sunshine, and quiet beach lounging for the family to relax.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This place was fantastic for several reasons: everything that you can think of needing at your house is available for you to use, from Ziploc bags and aluminum foil to laundry soap, scuba gear, tennis racquets, beach toys, you name it.

There is a binder located in the unit to give you lots of information on Places to go. When here, it feels like you're home. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and found that it had plenty of space, cooled off quickly, and was quite comfortable and clean. The owners are really friendly and helpful, easy to contact, and offered great suggestions. The price is great for the value.

Only a few things to note. The area of Oahu is of lower income, thereby a bit sketchy at times, but still pretty safe. The apartment itself is really safe, located in a gated community. The deck/lanai is not big enough to sit on, which is a bummer, the swim beaches near here do have some homeless camps, the grocery stores over here are a bit ghetto, and getting back in to this area between 3-7 is intense for traffic. But honestly, we had a great time! We shopped in Kapolei and Pearl City, timed the traffic right, and had a great time.

The different sides of the island are so diverse against each other that it is a must that you stay on both sides of the island and honestly if you're going to stay in West Oahu there is no better choice, sincerely!

Loved the "EXTRAS"!!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great - lots of "extras" we wouldn't have had in a motel: beach chairs and towels, snorkeling gear, lots of condiments and cookware. It really helped cut food costs, which left us more $$$ for other activities!! Thanks, Janie and Sonny, for the coffee and chocolates!! I'd definitely stay here again! The area was gated, so we felt safe, and were able to use the pool when we wanted. Lots of local information was provided to help us make the best choices!

A nice quiet getaway

  • 4 of 5

The vacation home was very clean and had just about everything we needed to fulfill our vacation needs. The security was a nice feature of the property. My family and I always felt safe at night. The local beach was right down the road and very much a family beach. We look forward to our next visit.

Perfect place in Oahu

  • 5 of 5

When we landed in Honolulu after being in Maui for 2 weeks, we were overwhelmed...Waikiki is not as relaxing as the entire island of Maui. However, when we arrived in Makaha and saw our condo, we were relieved and excited. The extras that the owners provided were awesome: snorkels, boogie boards, sand toys, beach towels, chairs, beach umbrella...and the list goes on. Everything was used! The condo is tidy and the beds are very comfortable. Netflix on tv was great too--it was our 3rd week and we were getting tired of running around seeing everything. The peacocks on the property are great to watch, the pool is clean, laundry room is accessible and entry into the area is a breeze. No problems. There is someone in the area who must leave for work at 5am though....a big truck starts with a ROAR. I didn't wake up to it every morning, but it was heard by the whole family. Other than that tiny tiny glitch, everything was awesome.

Owner's Response: Makaha is a beautiful contrast to the crowds of people in town. We appreciate the wide open, soft sand beaches, and sunshine that is consistent on the west shore of Oahu. It's our pleasure to host your family for your next visit. Mahalo for taking the time to send a lovely review. Happy New Year! ~ Janie

Nice secure condo village to stay at

  • 4 of 5

I was surprised at how dry it was around the place and also how many homeless people lived in the area. It was a pleasant place to be though for us and actually pretty extravagant compared to many others that live there. Loved the local places and people, sooo friendly and helpful. I had to assist my mom into the ocean when she wanted to go swimming and there was always people around that would come over to help us out if they saw us struggling. Also it was so nice to see fathers and kids playing and family gatherings and people at the beach. I also enjoyed the local pub tacos and more and wet to listen to one of the musicians that play there. Although they were about a hour ad a half late to set up, they sounded great and the people there were also so very nice and social. I love Hawaii because of that. I liked the beaches at Makaha but most had big surf at the time we were there. I definetly recommend getting to know some locals and spending more then just a few hours in the place. Learned a lot about the area just talking to people on the beach. Thanks Janie for your help and suggestions. My family really enjoyed their holiday there and having a quiet place to sped time together was fabulous.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for taking time to send us a nice review. As winter approaches, our North and West shores get some high surf. Its wonderful to have Pokai Bay and KoOlina beach coves that are protected for young and older swimmers to enjoy. Snorkeling hear is also very nice! Our immediate neighbors and the local people in the area are super friendly and helpful! A great authentic Mexican food restaurant , Taco's & More, is a must; to enjoy a family atmosphere, with good food, music and friendly patrons! ~ Janie
