My fiance and I both absolutely loved our stay at this charming little cottage. I feel like I got a true "Cape Cod experience", and I couldn't be happier. The cottage was small, but far from cramped, it was clean, and well equipped for everything you need for a "home away from home". The location of the cottage is ideal for those who aren't familiar with the area, and the beach that's within walking distance was great!

I will mention that the majority of the windows were unlocked or opened when I got to the cottage. That certainly wasn't a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you're like me and want everything closed up.

All-in-all, this cottage was exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely keep this place in mind if I ever plan on returning to the area.

10/10 would recommend.

Great location, all you need for a vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Small but well organized condo. Good value for the price. We came a 2 young kids and we found in the duplex all we needed. We made a great use of the outside shower and the barbecue.

There is no AC but a lot of fan which kept the place cool during the night and most of the day.

Location is great, you can walk to a very nice beach in 10 min, and get to all you need for great vacations within minutes.

If we come back in the future, we'll definitely check if available.

Great week

  • 3 of 5

The property is situated on a quiet cul de sac with a variety of outdoor games that we took full advantage of including ping pong, shuffleboard and a basketball hoop. Outdoor shower was great. Minor suggestions: Confirm that the key location in the advance paperwork/e-info is the actual location of the key, and include Mara's phone number with the advance paperwork/e-info. Her number was in the cottage on the fridge but not in the e-info or RA that we could access while locked outside of the cabin. Happily, a neighboring renter was there to share it. Suggest that renters bring their own blankets in addition to sheets/pillowcases as blankets were a bit musty. Note that the evening critters in the backyard are skunks, so evening outdoor showers or taking out trash are "at your own risk." All in all- good value for the price. Thanks much.

Very nice cottage in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights in one of the cottages in June 2016.

Kate's cottage was one of the best I have ever stayed at. I liked the Cape Cod decoration, rustic but yet with everything you need: cable tv, very good WiFi internet, fridge, stove, gas BBQ outside, picnic tables, dishes, ping pong table. It has 3 bedroom, one bathroom + outside shower, full equipped kitchen, a living room. it can fit 5 people. Everything was as described on vrbo website, 5 minutes walk to the beach. You cannot beat that!

Kate is very helpful and nice but she gives you space 😉.

Three nights weren't enough for us. We will definitely come back this summer.

Wonderful place for a vacation

  • 4 of 5

We started coming to the West Harwich area in the late 70’s with our kids. This duplex is one of six cottages formerly known as Compass Cottages. Only three are now rental properties. They are nestled in an association among other private homes so the area is quiet and peaceful. The common area is very large for the sports mentioned, dining, and other activities.

We have come to these cottages since the early 90’s. We have rented the duplex for 1-2 weeks for the last ten years with all our adult children and now grandchildren. Our extended families have joined in other area properties so it’s sort of an annual family reunion.

As for the duplex it suits us just fine. It’s sort of funky, built with a nautical motif, the Port and Starboard. The rooms are not huge but adequate for five people. We find you do anyway spend most of your time enjoying the outside. The rear of the property has a nice private area, too. Kate and Ned have done a lot of upgrades to the property and are continually making improvements. From the above you see we keep coming back. In addition to activities mentioned we also play a lot of tennis and kayak in the harbors and on the ponds.

There are many inexpensive restaurants (Seafood Sam’s and Wee Packet are favorites) nearby, a Star’s Supermarket, movie complex, and other attractions. Last year we biked the National Seashore and Provincetown. There is always something new to do. I hope this is helpful to folks considering the rental. We love it here!

Owner's Response: We enjoy having our renters long term. The cottage suits the needs of a Cape Cod vacation, relaxing, yet with many activities to choose from. WE do update the cottage every year, as much as we can-to keep our rent reasonable.

Great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this property for 10 years from Kate. We always have a delightful stay.

The cottage is close to the beach and bike trail. There are plenty of activities for kids. They walk or ride bikes everywhere.

There are restaurants close by in Harwich Port and Brewster. Chatham is also not far at all. Since it's Mid Cape, you can go anywhere on the Cape in a reasonable amount of time.

The front porch is great. You can sit out there rain or shine and drink your coffee in the morning and enjoy the quiet.

I would recommend this cottage for a family with young children or teenagers.
