About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

This delightful home is in Point Chautauqua on Chautauqua Lake, a beautiful lakeside resort community of quaint homes on winding lanes and towering trees. Beautifully decorated with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Enjoy amazing perennial gardens from the porch, patio, hammock or arbor swing. New porch swing this year. We are fully rented for the 2018 summer rental season.

The vacation home has been professionally decorated to make it a warm, relaxing spot. Well appointed kitchen and modern baths. First floor queen bedroom and full bath; 2 twin beds bedroom, twin bed w/pop-up trundle room and a double bed bedroom make up the three upstairs bedrooms plus 2nd full bath; patio with gas grill, chiminea, table, chairs and umbrella; large fenced yard; mooring and non-motorized dingy available. The 4-bedroom/2-bath house was well-insulated during its total remodel. AC in great room/kitchen. It has ceiling fans in all rooms for comfort. Sit and relax on the charming front porch or enjoy the privacy of the side porch and patio. Enjoy the extensive perennial gardens from the hammock, arbor swing or garden bench. Watch the sunset over the lake from a bench or swing on the Point.

Point Chautauqua achieved national historic status due to the 1875 design and of its quiet streets and community areas by Frederick Law Olmsted, an eminent 19th century landscape designer. It was his idea of the perfect terrain, hillside beside water. Many of the homes reflect the Victorian era.

Please note: It is NOT lakefront but just about 100 yards from the lake along a paved community path. Maximum occupancy is 8 guests including infants and children; no pets. Linen service available for $75. 3-day weekend and week day availability after Labor day. Please contact me prior to booking if you plan to bring a boat.

About Nancy Paul

Nancy is an interior and graphic designer and an avid gardener. Brad enjoys home maintenance and a second home fulfills his need to stay busy.

Nancy Paul purchased this house in 1996

Why Nancy Paul chose Dewittville

We love the large yard and gardens with porch, patio and arbor swing to enjoy it. We are walking distance to Point Chautauqua swimming, boating, tennis court, softball diamond, basketball hoops and the 9-hole public golf course at the entrance.

What makes this house unique

We love the historic nature of Point Chautauqua's Olmsted layout and its proximity to the cultural activities of nearby Chautauqua Institution in addition to the recreational opportunities of Chautauqua Lake.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our family has stayed at this awesome property for several years. The property is well appointed inside and out, the owner is very accommodating, and all our needs and wants are met regardless of age, from 3 to 66. The neighbors are very friendly too, inviting us every year to the annual community corn roast. Some of the best parts are our grandchildren being able to play in a fenced in back yard, kayaking on the lake, relaxing in the hammock, and taking walks in the historic surroundings of the neighborhood. Future guests should not have second thoughts about this rental.

Very nice and clean!

  • 4 of 5

House is clean and has lots of character to it. We were all in a wedding, so we were pretty busy and didnt get to enjoy the house or the lake enough. We opted for the $75 'linen service' out of convenience. Its not really a service, its just linens are provided for you to make your own beds. Wasnt aware of that and made for a long day after traveling. Not sure why they couldnt already be made when we arrived, but not a huge deal. One upstairs bed wasn't comfy for the guests - they chose to leave after one night. For the rest of us, we were fine. Overall, this was our first HomeAway rental. Nancy made the process very easy to understand the rules and policies. She always replied very quickly which I appreciated! We were really glad she was able to squeeze us in her busy calendar for a short weekend. I would definitely recommend her and this house to other guests!

Owner's Response: As many travelers to our area drive from nearby PA & OH, we give the option to supply your own linens (sheets & towels) and save the $75 linen supply fee. I thank you for your comments. I will edit my info to clarify "linens supplied" vs "linen service". We do not to charge an add-on cleaning fee as most rentals do. I will inquire as to which of the beds was found uncomfortable as this was my first complaint in this regard.

We had a nice stay!

  • 4 of 5

The house is nice and there is plenty of room. The location is beautiful. We would stay here again. If traveling from afar - make sure to read the whole listing and decide whether you will bring your own linens, as there is an extra fee for linens.

Beautiful home and gardens that had everything you could want or need away from home. Quiet street close to lake and nice neighbors were a bonus. House was beautifully decorated, very clean and had rainy day activities for our granddaughter. Great experience!

Owner's Response: Thank you. So glad you had a wonderful time making memories with your family... in spite of the rainy weather. Hopefully, if you come again you will have more sunshine. We love our "nice neighbors" too!

Lovely and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

What a quaint comfortable home! The owner was so friendly and easy to work with and made us genuinely feel like she wanted us to enjoy the home as if it was ours - which we certainly did! I can't say there was anything we needed that wasn't there (except maybe a vegetable peeler - haha). The house is a bit of a walk down to the water, so be prepared for that, but once you get down there it's a lovely area with ample green space for picnicking, lawn games and swimming, We did not have a boat but if you did, there was space for that too! The weather was regularly cloudy during our stay so we did not get a clear view of a sunset down by the water but the one glimpse we did wet showed promise for a spectacular show if only the sky was clear!

The Best!!!

  • 5 of 5

Nancy has the perfect knack for decorating the home and it is obvious the gardens are cared for with love. We look forward to our trip to Chautauqua every year with such anticipation - of equal importance to us is the Chautauqua Institute and the comfortable home we rent.
