BOOK YOUR 2017 GETAWAY NOW!

2017 looks to be a great year as Shell Cottage continues to offer you a great home away from home.

The New Year started with more improvements to this coastal gem. A major refurbishment kicked off on January 2nd to expand the patio and barbecue area, as well as redesign the driveway to provide more convenient access to the house and better parking arrangements. Expect a few upgrades to the main bath and basement rec room over the winter to take place also.

3 BEDS, 2 BATHS, SLEEPS 8, WATER VIEW

This water view cottage is in a great family neighborhood, located 1 block from Salt Pond Narragansett. Both the inside and the outside have been upgraded to ensure you a pleasant and comfortable stay.

Private neighborhood beach one block from the Cottage. Major ocean beaches (Narragansett Town, Scarborough, Roger Wheeler/Sand Hill Cove and Salty Brine, East Matunuck, Matunuck, and Charlestown) vary from 4 miles to 15 miles away. Block Island ferry and charter fishing boats also 5 miles away.

The open kitchen was recently renovated and has all 4 major appliances: stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. The kitchen is also filled with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, utensils etc., everything to make your vacation cooking easier. The main living area is right next to the kitchen with a large bay window with a partial water view, and flat-panel TV. Relax on the screen porch under the dark red foliage of our large maple trees on a hot summer day or enjoy the evening breeze bug-free. The dining room overlooks the over-large backyard and opens through the large glass slider door onto a deck.

Bedroom 1 has a daybed that opens into a king or two singles. Bedroom 2 has a queen-bed and looks out to the back yard. Bedroom 3 also has a queen-bed and looks towards Point Judith Pond. The main floor bathroom has a full tub-shower.

Downstairs, the recreation room has a futon couch that opens into a queen-sized bed and can sleep 2. The entertainment center has a flat screen TV and DVD player. There is newly rehabbed bathroom on this level too, with stall shower. Laundry facilities with full size washer and dryer adjoin the rec room. Walk out from the rec room to the patio and (propane) grill area and continue on to the very large backyard. There is a propane fire pit for hanging out enjoying the evening stars with s'mores and beverages!

When the ocean breeze is not enough to overcome the summer heat, the house has central air conditioning. Oil heat for the colder months keeps the house toasty warm. Plenty of off-street parking. The house is about ~1,500 square feet in total.

Shell Cottage is available for your summer vacation and short to medium term getaways. There is a 3-night minimum rental required during our summer high season and certain holiday periods; 2-night minimum otherwise. Please refer to our rate page for full details.

Book now and enjoy this newly refreshed and updated house near the water.

About Karen & Trudy

Mother and daughter team, Trudy & Karen, have owned Shell Cottage for more than four years and have been diligently upgrading it bit by bit. Trudy has lived on Harbour Island since her college days, and was a teacher in the Narragansett school system before retiring a few years ago. Karen grew up on Harbour Island but now lives on the opposite side of Narragansett Bay, though she is often on the Island. Both Trudy & Karen are active in the neighborhood property Association, helping to ensure this coastal gem stays beautiful and accessible.

Karen & Trudy purchased this house in 2011

Why Karen & Trudy chose Narragansett area

This is a great house for a family or a few couples looking for some peaceful time near the gorgeous waters of Salt Pond, Narragansett. We have a fabulous backyard, and our guests have free access to a small, private neighborhood beach. House rental includes linens and towels, and the kitchen has all the gear you need to make your vacation easy.

What makes this house unique

Private neighborhood beach a short walk from the house. The 40+ year old red King maple trees are magnificent, providing shade to the screen porch and unusual maroon leaves. Our back yard is one of the largest on Harbour Island, giving guests tons of room to let the kids run around, set up volleyball, or enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends.

Comfortable spot in lovely waterfront neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We rented this 3BR/2BA home for three nights in order to stay locally for our son's beachfront wedding in Narragansett, putting up a total of seven family members from out of town. The kitchen and downstairs full bath are recently updated, and the upstairs full bath, though "vintage", is in great condition and sparkling clean. It's a perfect place to put up a decent-sized group. It is well-outfitted with pretty much everything you might need, from well-equipped kitchen, to linens, to grill, to a thick notebook with instructions and information on local attractions. Plenty of room inside and out to gather. Owners Trudy and Karen have obviously put a lot of thought into anticipating their guests' needs, and are wonderful about answering any questions you might have. The older home is in a lovely beachfront neighborhood on Harbour Island, and renters may use the nearby private beach. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate on the one day we had available to stroll and explore, but I drove by the beach on the sunny morning we left. A comfortable home in a beautiful, serene neighborhood with big trees, yet only a few minutes' drive to shopping and restaurants.

Cute but dirty

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at the house for our granddaughter's wedding in Narragansett. The pictures online showed a wonderful and cute home. However, it was dirty inside and had a musty smell. There was crumbs of food in the kitchen. The porch had cobwebs and spiders everywhere. We would probably not choose to stay at the cottage again. The homeowners themselves were very nice and responded quickly to e-mails. They just need to do a little more maintenance, especially when a cleaning fee is being paid.

Owner's Response: Lindsey, Thank you for letting us know about your stay in September. We are sorry to hear you were unhappy with some of the house conditions and wish you had let us know of your concerns upon your arrival. We may have been able to address the issue at that point in time and make your stay better. Our dedicated cleaning team takes pride in preparing the house for our guests and was very surprised to learn any part of the house was not satisfactory. We will look for ways to improve our turnover process so that such a situation does not get repeated. Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Karen & Trudy

Perfect for a quiet family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This location was perfect for our recent off-season trip to RI. We traveled with our two young daughters and other family members. The house was kid-friendly and stocked with everything you needed. The neighborhood was quiet and great for taking walks to the small private beach and for morning runs. We were close to the main beaches and being off season, it was an easy drive. Overall it was a good and comfortable experience, perfect for group get aways and for a home-base for beach hopping. The owners were friendly and left ample information on area restaurants, beaches, shopping, and more. We would rent here again.

Wonderful Summer Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family returned yesterday from our quick stay at Shell Cottage. We couldn't have had a better experience.

We were in Boston for a wedding over the weekend, so we decided to stay a few days in Rhode Island before heading back to Texas. Check-in was a breeze! I even got an email from the owner inviting us to arrive a couple hours early because the house was finished being cleaned from the previous visitor. Once we arrived, the kids (19-9 yrs old) went straight for the local beach. They rode bikes while we walked down the street. A few of them jumped right in. The water was warm and got deep (over 6 feet). They had a blast jumping off the floating dock deep into the water.

We ate dinner at home that night, played Trivia Pursuit (they have a ton of games) and watched a Harry Potter movie (lots of movies to choose from). The next day we went to Scarborough Beach for a few hours. It was a short drive away. Lots of parking. Big waves. Tons of fun! That afternoon I hosted a 70th birthday party for my mom. I had a catering company do everything once I got permission from the owners. The backyard is HUGE, so we set up a tent and had a wonderful time with extended family that came. The kids played badminton for hours (kept in the garage) and then moved to tag football. There was plenty of room outside for all 25 of us. After everyone left, we turned on the fire pit.

We enjoyed drinking coffee on the covered porch the next morning when it was raining outside. Then we went to Crazy Burger for a delicious brunch.

We would definitely rent the shell cottage again. It fit our family of eight perfectly. The owners were extremely helpful and went out of their way to make sure our visit was a success. I wish we could have stayed longer!!

Great place and owners

  • 5 of 5

It was our first visit to Narraganset RI and this house is well located. It is on Harbor Island with access to private beach on the bay and easy drive to Rhode Island State Parks (Scarborough Beach and Captain Wheeler Beach, which nicely reduced their prices in 2016 to $12 per car load or $6 if have RI plates and good parking). VRBO owners were ideal. They responded almost immediately to every inquiry and provided bikes when we asked. We would visit again and highly recommend the house. We had nice side trips to Newport and Block Island.
