About Chandra and Charles Redmon

We are a couple of happy mountain dwellers living in beautiful Franklin ,NC. We moved from Asheville, NC to live the dream of country life as the new owners of Rivendell Cabins . We are passionate about travel and have been very fortunate to see many beautiful places throughout Europe, South and Central America, Indonesia, and Africa, but there is no better place to call home than Western NC. We love outdoor activities including cycling, hiking, camping, and running. We love dogs and are parents to two amazing rescue furry kids. We look forward to sharing our homes with you and hope you find peace and happiness here on our property.

What makes this cabin unique

These cabins are located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and each is secluded and not visible from other homes. The road is a dirt road and cabin guests are the only travelers on the road, so very little traffic.

Secluded, Amazing Experience

  • 5 of 5

My overall experience was wonderful. It was a secluded place where we were able to cook and catch-up together. It is a beautiful home/cabin for relaxing and disconnecting.

The cabin was nice. Plenty of room. The hot tub was great. Secluded but close to anything you might need. Lots of creepy crawly things OUTSIDE but you are in the woods. I will definitely consider another stay in the future!

Amazing Little Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed one night here just to get away for her birthday and it was a really great time. You can see the mountains from the hot tub and everything was very clean and well kept. We would definitely recommend and come back!

Significant room for improvement

  • 2 of 5

Pros: Nina is very responsive to emails. Her communication is great and she reached out via text to insure that we had arrived. She informed us that the lights and hot tub were on. She sent emailed directions and was clear that you should arrive before dark because there are no street lights and the road is dirt and can be difficult. She has placed directional signs along the path which were a big help. The views are amazing from the deck. The deck is a covered wrap around, with a smaller, private deck that holds the hot tub and a fire pit. The hot tub was clean and hot. There were the main essentials in the kitchen.

Cons: Th screen doors were old and loud and need to replaced. The house is really dated. It smelled stale and could have benefited from plug in air fresheners. The furniture in the living room is dingy, faded, and ripped in places. We would only sit on the couch because it was covered and would not use the chairs. The kitchen table and chairs are the flimsy, plastic folding kind which are not comfortable. The range is small. We did not do any cooking since we were only in town for the weekend, but since the house is listed for multiple guests, I would find it difficult to cook a full meal with that set up. The walls and decor are fairly bland, mostly white with religious theme. I think it would be more suitable for all guests to have a more mountain/bear/retreat theme. The beds are old and very hard. None of us slept well. There were adequate blankets and sheets, but again they were old, thread bare and needed to be replaced. There were 4 on the master bed because they are so thin. There is no TV in the bedroom, which we missed. The railing to the loft is shaky, which would make me nervous with small children.

Overall the house was ok. We travel a lot and rent a lot of houses and this is at the bottom of our list due to the overall neglect of the house.

We had to leave a day early due to a family emergency. We paid for 2 nights and had to leave the following afternoon. We did not receive any money back from our visit but Nina offered a discount on a return visit. We have no plans to return to the area and if we did, we would search for another house. I expected better and more comfort for the price we paid. The hot tub and views are only selling points to this rental until it is updated. It felt like my grandmothers house and that is not worth almost $400 for 2 nights.
