Property Details

Updated: Oct 23, 2016
House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 8

This property is located on the tranquil Rock River in Oregon, Illinois and is perfect for a couple or family to get away. Enjoy fishing from the large deck or while out on the water with your boat. There is a boat ramp available in town and one hundred feet of river frontage at the house for convenient docking and ease of use. The barbecue will come in handy when you want to keep an eye on your fishing pole while preparing a delicious meal.

There are two bedrooms with two beds each. The master bedroom has two new queen beds. They are supremely comfortable so that you will sleep like a baby! The second bedroom has two twin beds and there's a hide-a-bed in the living room for larger get-togethers. The kitchen is fully stocked with a large table for your group to gather at. The living room has two full couches and entertainment center. Views of the river are also enjoyed from the bar in the sunroom. Our friendly neighbors might give you a wave.

Explore nature on any of the hiking trails of the surrounding three state parks. You'll find many activities to interest you such as horseback riding, dinner cruises, golf, and swimming at nearby lakes! Ask us where to find the bald eagle's nest! Bring your canoe, kayak, or other water sport toys.

Stay at the Rock River Hideaway to relax and unwind!

4 Women Friends Getaway Weekend

  • 4 of 5

This place had many features we liked. First, it was centrally located for our group coming from Iowa, western Illinois and Chicago and in quiet area close to several state parks to explore. It was right on the river with a beautiful view of the wooded opposite bank. We enjoyed the fire pit and variety of places to sit both inside and out. The owners/managers were good communicators and graciously allowed us to check-in a couple hours early. We enjoyed hiking Castle Rock trails, Nachusa grasslands and antiquing in Oregon. If weather had been warmer we would have taken a canoe trip. A warning to anyone who requires cell connection: we could not get cell signal or wifi connection in the area from Verizon, T-Mobile or Virgin - so no calls, texts or internet. However, there is a landline available. Also, we felt 11am checkout was too early for a Sunday. Bedroom light fixtures were not all working, so reading in bed was tricky. But, overall, these small issues didn't keep us from having an enjoyable weekend of fun and friendship. On a final note, the owner was extremely helpful to me after our stay by searching through our garbage for a lost item and then mailing it to me. This went beyond my expectation and I really appreciated this. THANK YOU!

Just what we were looking for

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I found the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. We were looking for peace and quiet and this property well provided it . If you like to hike there are several state parks in the area to explore. If you like to fish you could do it right from the huge deck. The place really felt like home to us. Tanzie's paradise has everything you need. We look forward to coming back.

Last hurrah of (late) summer!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Rock River Hideaway this year, and it was just as enjoyable as the first! We had zero luck with the fish and had to deal with a little bit of rain, but we still had fun hanging out on the deck. Everything was just as comfortable, accommodating, and clean this time around. Thanks, Tanzie! We hope to be back again next summer!

Oh, and Father & Son Pizza = really good pizza!

Perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights here in Sept. to kickback, relax, and celebrate our anniversary. This place was exactly what we were looking for. The deck is right there on the rivers edge and provided a great spot to watch the river flow by and soak into the nature feeling. Inside the house was very clean, had all the things as expected and felt comfortable as soon as we walked in. Tanzie the manager was excellent with communicating with us before, during and after our stay. We had our anniversary dinner at La Vigna, a fantastic Italian restaurant nearby.

Pleasant place for outdoor enthusiasts

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a week off at this nice place at the end of July, 2016. The house is spacious enough for a family of four or five and has all the stuff you might need including linens, cookware, etc. It is a bit old, but very clean and cozy. Beds are very comfortable and the place is really quiet. Tanzie is a perfect host carefully arranging everything and very responsive.

The house is on the river, so fishing is an obvious pastime as well as reading or sunbathing on the porch. There are at least four awesome places for hiking within 20 minutes’ drive: Lowden and Castle Rock State parks, Lowden-Miller Forest and White Pines Forest State park. Children may like Lake Louise in Byron – it is a clean, warm and shallow lake with a life-guarded beach. For kayaking try “White Pelican” in Oregon. And do check the local “Supervalu” store – you can be amazed with its wine selection.
