About Cindy Blodgett
My husband has been a home builder for over 30 years and built this beautiful vacation home for ourselves,to have a place large enough for our 10 children to come home to with their own families, but the recession hitting construction business a few years ago and at the time we still had 7 children still at home to support along with college tuition to pay, in 2013 we made the decision to share our home with others to get through the recession. We are happy to say that we have had great renters the last several years and now one son is a college graduate in computer programming and recently married, our daughter has her degree in nursing and is recently married and another son also recently married. We also have 4 adopted children (1 of which is in high school and two just graduated and a 7th grader.) Although we miss spending the summers on the lake, we are glad to know it is being used for others to create wonderful family memories. Our daughter getting married a couple years started us down a new adventure. When having no success in finding a wedding venue, my husband took on the challenge of turning our barn into a beautiful wedding venue. After hearing all the compliments from the guests, we decided to make the necessary additions to rent it to others. So if you know of someone looking for such a venue, check it out. Blodgett Wedding Barn Schoolcraft, Mi The lake house only 20 minutes away makes a great place for wedding guests to stay.

Great location but in need of some work
First, I would like to say that overall we had a nice stay. The lake was wonderful, the water was clear and warm and it was a great size to enjoy paddle boating and kayaking with hardly any fast boats/jet skis. There were plenty of towels and chairs and the kayaks got used frequently by all. We also had a fun time on the giant blow up duck! The house had a lot of room, there were 6 adults and 3 kids and we did not feel like we were on top of each other.
If you are used to kind of "roughing it," then you will be thrilled with this rental that has lots of amenities. However, we found it to be filthy and the house was in need of a lot of a repairs. The floors had not been vacuumed, the surfaces not wiped down, and toilets/showers were frankly gross. The first night there I got out the vacuum because I couldn't stand it, happy vacation to me. There was also just SO much stuff/junk. There were WAY too many baby toys out that were some of the most disgustingly dirty toys I've ever seen. We did not have a baby, so not only were these toys in the way (we put them in a back closet), but even if we had had a baby, I would never have let them play with the toys. The kitchen was crammed full of every random kitchen item that you would never need, it was very difficult to find the few items we did actually want to use.
I say all of this simply because we had higher expectations going in from the listing photos and details and the relatively high nightly rate. We thought $600/night would at least get us a mostly cleaned house. Certainly on the lake we did not expect it to be spotless by any means!! We just thought this would be a little more upscale than it was. That didn't stop us from enjoying time as a family and utilizing the wonderful (practically private at times!) lake! So if you are looking for a great lake to enjoy with younger kids (the "beach" is very small) and that's mostly all you care about, then this is a great spot! We felt very safe and really couldn't believe how nice the water was.
Sorry to hear that the house didn't meet this guest's expectations. We do advertise that we do not hire professional cleaners, but am surprised at these comments because we do go over the basics. We try to accommodate groups with people of all ages and most groups appreciate the children's toys and I also find it interesting that they weren't happy because there was too many kitchen items. I guess you can't please everyone.
NIce time at the lake for our large family
The home is very nice and the lake access is great
Fantastic family vacation place
We had 3 generations staying in this lovely home. There was more than enough room for everyone. The grandkids loved all the activities available in the lower level. The highlight was being in the water. The hard sandy bottom and clear water were especially nice for the younger grandchildren. The older ones enjoyed jumping off the huge duckie. Although the lake is rather small, water skiing and tubing were great, and you could watch it all happen from the dock. The lake is also perfect for kayaking. Thanks to the Blodgetts for opening up their home. We’d love to come again!
Glad you had a wonderful stay. We think the house is a great place for such groups as yours to enjoy spending time as a family together.
Hemlock lake house experience
The house is beautiful and large. Plenty of rooms and beds; most beds were not very comfortable. House was so-so for cleanliness; expected better for the price. Lots to do at the house and lake is beautiful. 1 neighbor was not friendly and burned leaves for parts of 3 days, creating smoke issues. Jet-skis were annoying at times.
Sorry the lake experience wasn't what this guest was expecting. People will have fires and drive jetskis at a lake.
This beautiful large lake house I rented for my family for our daughters wedding this weekend was fantastic. We really enjoyed our time here.
Great house with awesome amenities
We had such a good time at this beautiful home. Fully stocked all the way around (kitchens, entertainment items, etc.). Even though the weather could have been warmer for August (not like that is the owner's fault, of course) we had plenty of room inside to keep the kids and the adults busy but not tripping over each other. Loved the paddle boats and kayaks and the water trampoline, and the great firepit. Loved the full length porch that is enclosed so the little ones can't get to the stairs. So peaceful in the mornings before people get on the lake.
Just a heads up though, no wireless, so you need to have a good data plan for your phone if you want to stay connected to social media. Also, bring a lot of bug spray. It is beautifully shaded, but the mosquitos love to visit.
Had a great time. This is the first home we've rented (and we've rented one every year for probably a dozen years), that the family liked so well we want to go back in 2018.
Thank you for the nice review. That is a great compliment that this is the first place you want to revisit. We are glad to have you back. Good idea to give the heads-up on not having wifi. Even though we mention that on the listing, some people miss noticing it. It was a tough decision whether to provide wifi, but we have had so many families thrilled that without the easy accessibility to social media, they found their families connecting. Instead of evenings spent with faces glued to phones, they were enjoyed together around the ping-pong or pool table, a board game, or a family video, which is what we love to hear. Understanding that some adults need to keep up with work, coming prepared with an adequate data plan for that is a good pointer.
